Do I read right in that you actually make your own wax recordings? If so, that is seriously awesome! I wouldn't mind getting my hands on some type of equipment to play old records/cylinders, but only as a hobbyist.
so you make your own huh?? very cool maybe you should make a wax recoding of you sining??? or playing piano or somthing??? would like two here that please???.
Very interesting! I've wondered for quite some time how a MIDI file might sound if dubbed onto a wax cylinder; now I know.
Although I don't think I'd ever mistake this for a recording of a live performance, your announcement of the title at the beginning of the cylinder certainly does lend an aura of authenticity to what follows.
This is fabulous! I am an electro-acoustical engineer and amateur musician. I was employed
by several phonograph cartidge manufacturers following my graduating from engineering school, and I learned to play St. Louis Tickle while at school after hearing Dave Van Ronk's "Jug Band Stompers" LP about 40 years ago (ouch!)
This is the version I do on the guitar - thanks to Stefan Grossman's publish on cd and tabs! he may have gotten it himself from Ton Von Bergeyk who is pretty purist when it comes to transcribing from the original - which I'm sure this recording here is just that! What a rag!!! Thrills, suprises and yes - TICKLES!
