  • he's adorable! and his grumpiness makes me want to play with him even more! even though he is grumpy i would just grab him up and put him on my face like i do my cat and my ferret. but since i raised my cat and my ferret since they came out of their mothers' womb they both do not ever attack me like they would an ordinary owner (of a cat especially). i wish i had one but i dont know how to raise a skunk. :(

  • This may be a dumb question, but how do you keep him from.. spraying?

  • @deatXbyXchocolate335 Have a vet remove the gland.

  • @Zomb131

Ohh, I see. And where did you get him? Does he smell at all?

  • LOL he called you some really naughty names :)

  • I watched only few of your videos and you seem to have a good sense of tidiness and cleanness and your house reflects that. I often see people with small mammal pets living in places that look like a mess. My question to you is this. Have you trained Jasper to use a specific spot in the house for his "business"?

  • @Cwisiee Thank you! :) I try to keep everything off the floor to discourage Jasper from climbing/knocking it over. I have a few litter boxes throughout. Usually one to two per room that he spends the most time in depending on size of room. He will use these litter boxes 90% of the time. Sometimes he likes to rebel and pee in a different corner but its not often. They are just lined with newspaper/magazine paper and extremely easy to clean.

  • @sdeck09 Awesome ^^

  • 0:40 sounds like donald duck being strangled !!! XD

  • too cute

  • Do his nails take any upkeep? I notice they're pretty long and I can hear them against the flooring.

  • @ShawnaTheGirl Yep they get trimmed. Their quicks are long, much longer than dog or cats so their nails need to stay long too. They use their long nails to hold their food.

  • Awe, he needs a snack and a nap mommy. He'll wake up all refreshed. Boy, what a cute grumpy skunk! 

  • haha that things a little prick

  • Those noises he's making are adorable.

  • @sdeck09 I was just wondering if Jasper ever bites you? And does he have sharp teeth? He's so cute & my sister really wants to get a skunk, so I'm curious.

  • @08mrspaddy Yes, he will get into a really foul mood occasionally. I call it his skunk pms. He gets grouchy and wants to be left alone. So I do just that and let him calm down. He is usually back to his normal loving self the next day. All skunks are diff though and their personalities can vary. Some are very cuddly 24/7 while others do not want to be held at all. I would say Jasper is 85% a cuddlebug lol. His bites can sting but I know when they are coming so easy to avoid for me

  • it doesn't try to spray you?!

  • @13randonLee Skunks spray to protect themselves, he had no reason to spray her. She was annoying him, but nothing he couldn't avoid if he wanted to.

  • @13randonLee He was descented at a young age, so he CAN'T spray. :)

  • hey, i was just wondering if somebody could tell me if skunks shed their hair alot? Because im thinking of getting one but i get allergies from fur

  • @loopyloz121 They do shed a couple times a year. It's not so bad. When Jasper is shedding, I just try to pull/brush out as much as possible, or give him a bath, and that helps a lot. My friend is allergic to cats and dogs but not to Jasper. I, on the other hand, am not allergic to cats or dogs and am allergic to Jasper, go figure.

  • SKUNK KILLED MY CHICKEN! SO...I dialed .357

search on youtube for the above if you dont think I tell the truth.

  • @sheltiemanva LOL, don't worry, I believe you. I suppose I should've said that they are not normally considered predatory animals...and Jasper (most likely from being a domestically bred pet) definitely does not have a predatory bone in his body. I have had rodents for pets as well and he doesn't even give them a second look. And if I do have mice, it would be better to put my money on the cat rather than Jasper to get it. Jasper couldn't care less.

  • @sdeck09 Hey, domesticated skunks (like Jasper) and wild skunks are very different from one another.

  • @threeby8887 I guess it depends on what you mean by different. Captive animals still have unique instincts that are encoded within their genes and they will still exhibit the same type of behavior whether in the wild or not. I work at a zoo and part of my job is daily observation of captive animals, so I have had plenty of time to study behavior of these animals. And when it comes down to it, there are some innate behaviors that will persist despite the environment.

  • yeah ur luck no scent glands at :50 youd of been sprayed lol

  • Awww cute! Is he potty trained and do you ever need to get him groomed?

  • @superdanish Yes, he uses the litter box. and no, no grooming needed. I give him a bath once in a while..but it's not really needed b/c they keep themselves very clean and groom themselves frequently like cats do

  • The skunk I just had to put three .357 rounds in was making those same noises as it was gnawing the neck out of one of my chickens.

I really would check on the mice situation in there. You may THINK you dont have a mouse, but they do live in a house for a long time before you know they are there. Also, he could befriend your pets, but trust that he knows who belongs and who does not.

  • @sheltiemanva He was going after some crumbs. and fyi, skunks are not predatory animals.

  • @sdeck09 I could send you a photo of what he did to my chicken if you like. Tore her gizzard right out, chased my dogs from the hen and with the flashlight right on him, went right back and started chewing on her...while she was still alive.

Sorry, they are predatory in the proper conditions. I have seen it with my own eyes!

  • @sheltiemanva

    Key words : proper conditions

If raised in different conditions it wouldn't kill.

  • @13kumiko Ummmm, I would say a skunk in the wild is natural conditions. In those conditions, they will kill and eat anything they can when hungry.

  • @sheltiemanva

Thats what i mean, different conditions. Conditions as in the wild or raised domesticated. The way it grew up.

  • Hunting for fallen scraps and maybe frustrated he can smell something but can't reach it.

  • The sounds they make are so cute. xD

  • YOU,HAVE,MICE,DUMB,LADY

  • @illwillsquared Actually, I dont, but okay. He goes after crumbs that get dropped. I also know that he wouldn't go after a live rodent because I had rodents as pets as well and he did not give them a second though. But uh yeah, nice try.

  • @sdeck09 *thought

  • Have to love your Jasper. I didn't really get them to vocalize till I got the third one, Cooper, now Agent Cooper. Cooper needed a home, when his owner could not keep him, same with Professor Moriarty, the brown and white. Gherkin the Mighty was the first one I got, with all papers, after my first baby died, just short of 9 years old. Then, let me not forget Dutch, a chocolate and white, who arrived with distemper, and couldn't be saved. Poor Dutch.

  • @mephitidae I love the names of your skunks! I've watched many of your videos as well. You've got some really cute kids!

  • lol...love it!!!

  • did you find out what it was he wanted? looks like there was something under the stove. and has he ever bit you?

  • @WoWGirl6 Probably a crumb..he's constantly picking stuff off the floor. And yes, as a skunk owner it is inevitable that you will be bet many many times. You suck it up and deal with it. Most often it doesn't hurt. It also depends on the skunk. Some are really big sweethearts and will never bite, and others have bad tempers. Jasper goes through a temper tantrum about once a month. And I just let him cool off and have the day to himself until he relaxes. Its like a skunkie PMS

  • @sdeck09 *bit not bet

  • Did you have him de-sprayed? ( when they remove the spray glands so he can't spray. )

  • @ChibiFoxy92 Yes, domestic skunks are descented at an early age. Typically well before you get them from the breeder.

  • @sdeck09 Oh okay. He's such a cutie!! <3 -snuggles him-

  • YOU... HAVE A PET SKUNK!!!!

  • Lol... My Thelonius gets the same way sometimes. He definitely has his petulant teenager moments especially when he is wanting his dinner when I come home from work

  • @sophinana Hehe, yeah they always seem to know if its even a minute past the usual feeding time. Jasper continues to try to get up extra early every morning in hopes that he will get breakfast early. Unfortunately for him, I'm not easily trained xD

  • Wow. Jasper as a petulant teenager.

  • lol, cute, where do you live, i live in canada, i wonder if its legal to have one here

  • @ferronthewolf I believe that they are in legal in canada. My suggestion is to do tons of research, get on a skunk forum and ask lots of questions and talk to ppl that live in the same area as you to make sure that there is nothing else as far as special permits or anything that you have to go through. I do know that they are not required to be descented in Canada like they are in the states. I live in Pennsylvania. Thanks for watching!

  • @sdeck09 thanks, ill look into that

  • @sdeck09 oops, i meant *are legal in canada, ... just realized that was probably a little confusing

  • he's saying "OMG!! All this paparazzi ! i just can't keep up

  • wow he is soo big hehe...i want to get one for xmas..

  • @angiesupers hehe, he's actually on the smaller side for adult skunks. He is about 3.5 lbs. If you are planning on getting a baby, they are only born in the springtime just so you know. But you should check out a rescue organization to try and adopt a juvenile or adult.

  • @sdeck09 I want too but living in nyc is not the best place for them lol

  • really? I used to never be able to get Jasper to shutup! He has quieted down a lot since, but once in a while he still "talks" to me. I think I have a couple videos posted of him screaming for attention. He cries when he wants to be picked up and coddled lol.

  • Im so jealous, mine hasnt made so much as a peep since she was born

  • he's big. he was squeakin.

  • Wow, Very Grumpy!! He seems to be smelling a treat under the stove?!

  • Possibly, sometimes crumbs or almond slivers fly under there. Food always seems to set him off to a bad mood.
