I really enjoyed this video. One thing that we haven't really thought of well, they didn't really talk about in this video is, What if the extraterrestrials were already on Earth?... Meaning... what if we in fact are "ETs" that were brought to this planet to grow as a race or for some other reasons... or maybe they came long ago, left clues behind such as pyramids etc for us to learn. The best way to store knowledge would be a pyramid because they can last through long periods of time...

Another definition of life which I have come to like recently, which may also be useful is;

life uses logic, Nature uses least action.

Logic is action which follows from a comparison.

A microbe may move along a gradient, towards light for instance, it reacts with adaptive logic to stimuli.

this definition is my own invention, as far as i know, seems very obvious though, and it does seem to work very well.

Here is definition of life which works well.

Life requires 3 things to be present;

1 it reproduces.

2 it has metabolism.

3 it has mutability.

The first 2 describe fire for instance, it has metabolism and can replicate, but there is no evolution of form.

It is a simple definition which seems to hit all the buttons. It is also able to give us a definition of very exotic life consistently.

The exception is perhaps where we might expect; organisms so primitive that they resemble least action.

Defining life as a 'system that is capable of replication with change' ( 3:45 ) is too limiting. So if you encounter an entity, thought- form, field or intelligent artifact that is non human in origin and it cannot or does not replicate or change you shrug your shoulders and keep on looking ?

Maybe 'LIFE' is a transitory stage that consciousness takes on its way to another state.

It's not that religion has no place, it's that the bible or w/e your holy book is should be treated symbolically. Religion has the place of a guide throughout our life. But now is the time for science to excel. Religion is needed, but now we need science to light the path.

I think that Religion was born for leading morally "correct" lives, depending on your religions values. Science is not religions enemy, science is a concrete explenation of things that religion just shows in riddles and vague excerpts. Perhaps 'God' and 'Religion' are both figments, w ehave no proof if these biblical figures existed. However science proves pulsars, black holes, even how the universe was created. :)

Well, not only would there be humanoid creatures more advanced than us, but also beneath us. Life itself doesn't repeat itself exactly on each planet, life is intelligence since it is by a system of logical growth that solar systems, ecosystems, and Universes form.

The most universal or most ubiquitous question as to why we want to know whether there is life that is out there, might be relatable to how little we care about the life around us. There is something compulsive about knowing "how important am i?" relatively speaking. It is as if people cannot be confident of their value without acknowledgment from other "smarties". Science can be very dogmatic and hierarchical but would never admit to that.

Probably keep in mind that dominance is generally related with the ability to destroy, punish, or put to death competitors. One might speculate that this is why Jesus was put to death, or greater thought is most often squelched by a hierarchical or self advancing behaviors and beliefs. There is also a level of denial that goes with that. If one wants to find "intelligent" life, you have to look in inhospitable places.

Like it or not, life perceives what it needs to do to continue, and then decideds to do what is needed, and then does what can be done. This is so from the simplest or molecular to the most complex. It is a kind of compulsive decision making with an element of compulory action. If that is not done then the entity ceases to contiue in the time stream. Perhaps a better way to say that is some aspect of that entity ceases to exist.
