I have seen them perform, and I will go on record as saying that Tommy Thayer is a better guitarist than Ace Frehley. The band takes it up a notch with Tommy playing. I like Eric on drums, but he can't quite fill Peter's shoes, especially vocally. The lineup they had in Australia was their strongest, IMO.

To an extent you all are right, Ace and Peter did abuse drugs and alcohol, but gene and paul were taking all of the credit! they said that Kiss is stanley and simmions, im not a big fan of eric, but tommy i like, but yet beth isnt the same, and just sooo many songs arent the same, dirty living was AMAZING! but not the same... Its just we need to bring back the 4 original members of the band, so that kiss can remain kiss!

Tommy and Eric are great musicians they just got thrown into a no win situation. They looked like the bad guys from wearing ace and peter's makeup but I want to know how any of you would turn down a chance to be in Kiss.

Paul said in the 92 documentary that when Ace joined the band he was a great player but over the years other things got in the way of his playing. The main reason he left the 2nd time was he just got out of rehab and wasn't ready to go on the road so they decided to use tommy.

vynycx wrong, all Ace and Peter had to do was stay sober while on tour, but they couldn't give up the substance abuse and the boozing while on tour. They made their choice. Ace has become very boring and slow on stage and struggled to keep up with Paul and Gene the whole time. When Peter started to slip, they had to go. The chose booze and drugs over Kiss, the fans, and the music, and when you do that, you're gone.

they were both sober during and after the reunion tour. ace left because he didnt want to open for aerosmith, and peters contract wasnt renewed. kiss is still good without them. i saw them last summer and will see them in september. and while i never was able to see the originals together, i still think that it was the best line up

Ace is also a jerk and when confronted about his drinking in a documentary about letting the fans down, his reply was, "fuck the fans. So I know Ace and Peter sober are very talented, that is clear. Kiss with Peter and ace when sober sound so amazing. It's heartbreaking they chose alcohol and drugs over what they are most talented at. You look at Gene and Paul, still in it.

Ace and Peter are unfocused and undisciplined. It took Ace 20 years to come out with Anomoly. Very disappointing, they let everyone down.

@diamonddust22 To an extent you are right, if you`ve read Simmons autobiography KISS And Make-up, he does talk about how their drinking and drug addictions sometimes got in the way of the band, such as on Destroyer, Ace is hardly on the album, its some random guy. In the end, Ace and Peter were just whining as usual. So they brought in Tommy and brought back Eric. Personally I think KISS is better now than ever.
