should you decide to get a corgi. they desire to please, and great fun to play with, BUT start training when there are young. Corgi are as smart as any other dogs, are just a physical active if you want them to be, and or a couch potatoes. As far as I'm concerned they are a 4 season dog. there tough & durable, as bigger dogs, one nick name some people call them - minuture German shepard. big dog bark in a little body, and legs

I got my self 4yr old cardigan corgi,( with long tail) and swimming in lakes, rivers, ponds, it doesn't matter he loves it all, true both breds are herding dogs, but my little guy make a great couch potatoe. For those rainy days, as my young guy does seasonal shedder and it isn't all that much, as for bathing if needed about 3 or 4 times a year and just basic grooming.

@dante9132 We use John Paul by Paul Mitchell (it is pet shampoo)...I think it’s the oatmeal one...he is allergic to everything! that stuff doesn’t give him hives. Corgis are a WONDERFUL breed...but they are not a toy dog...my boy weighs about 35lbs all muscle :) ...but they are usually about 25lbs and they shead a lot...like all year long a lot...just so you know. They are very good with kids...but they are herding dogs, so they will nip at your heels and try to herd you ;) hope this helps.

@dante9132 unless you have experience with dogs, I would not recommend a Corgi. They're a fantastic breed, but don't make the mistake of thinking they're a toy breed (as glinda said). They are very head-strong and stubborn and can be difficult to train. Definately not for a novice dog owner. :)

All of the research I've done about this breed states that they HATE the water and should not be bathed often. The fact that this corgi is sitting patiently in the water goes to tell you how much these dogs want to please their owners which is also a common trait for the breed.

They really do want to please their owners!! He is so good in the bath!!! He does not mind them at all...but I must say, when its raining out...he is VERY quick to come back to the door to be let in! haha
