America used to have good stuff on tv. Now Its all scientific research to figure out what color, shapes, and sounds to throw at kids. I'd rather have this then the brainwashing on the tv now.
well, im 44, and to all the people that were getting involed with all the "safe tv ads" bullshit, you are the adults that were worrying about this shit instead of the child molesters and the rest of their gang that hurt and abused our generation. these "ads" didnt hurt us. we could have used your nosieness, if there be such a word, for better purposes for sure. dont cha think?
I don't know. I saw those cigarette and beer ads as a kid and it didn't damage me. There are far worse things to worry about than a commercial. It's up to the parents to explain to the kids re: such matters.
Oh liten.. Up crack me up all in your view & or opinion just Laugh its good for ya Brewsky anyone ?? Besides mr maggo oo came on before we were up if you can remember back that long !*!
What the heck is sleezy about that you wussbag tool torquer self-tweaker! Magoo is a real American hero so back off you tea-tottling tea-bagging t-girl!
Oh brew me no brew with artificial bubbles, those carbonated beers of today... But Utica Club will still take the trouble to age... beer... the natural way! Utica Club - U.C!
Help! My 7 year old cousin watched this and now he's a regular Stag beer drinker... If he sees Joe Camel, he will probably be a four-pack-a-day kid within a month... Kids always emulate cartoon characters. That's why we have so many kids jumping off of cliffs like Wile E. Coyote and sticking their fingers into gun barrels, like Bugs Bunny.
well if parents would set their kids straight it wouldn't be so bad tell him just because he sees them do dosn't me he does it like with games so some 9 year old kid plays GTA and steals a car where is the parent when this happens
HELP, too!!! there's just so many kids sticking dynamite in their mouths!!! boys want to put dresses on rabbits!!!! HELP!!! kids wonder why the cat's no longer breathing after they've clobbered him with a mallet. HELP!!! HELP SOMEBODY!!!! Isn't it disgusting...OMG...kids are dropping anvils on mice and chopping cat's tails off...HELP!!!!! HOW AWFUL!!!!
now do you see how ridiculous and stupid all of those folks are by saying cartoonish violence is unsuitable for kids.
I dunno, ACcountryFan. Last week, my little cousin grabbed a boulder and jumped off a cliff! THank God there were some electrical wires below! They acted like rubber bands and he was shot back up to the cliff where he started! Damn roadrunners!!
People that are all up in arms about this and the Flintstones smoking commercial forget the fact that these were primetime TV shows in their day. And like the Simpsons today, they were not considered "childrens shows" at the time. No - these commercials were NOT being shown on saturday morning!
thanks for the comment!! i've been stressing this same thing for years. everyone today see's "cartoon" and they automatically think "kids" and that's why a lot of people have no idea that these cartoons were originally intended for an adult audience.
how people can be so ignorant to think TV producers were targeting children with these kinds of commercials is what's really sickening.
Weak, and full of fail. The history of the world is the history of slavery, going back to ancient Sumer. No one alive today doesn't have slaves in their ancestry at some point. It's just a little more recent for some Americans, but no one alive today lived or had parents who lived as slaves in America.
Tell me, is there a statue of limitations on feeling indignant?
to sublime95: most of the world was established on slavery. In fact there is a huge slave trade still going on in a few African countries. There are a number of humanitarian groups that specialize in buying africans "out of slavery" today in 2010
That's one effective commercial, now I want a Stag beer. Unfortunately I don't have any Stag, but I do have four Buds in the fridge now that I think about it.
Hard to imagine a time that a kid-friendly cartoon character known for driving while blind and forcing others off the road could be a TV spokesperson for any beer--and people laughed!
correction...this character was NOT aimed at kids at the time of the commercial. children were not the intended audience for this cartoon...when MR MAGOO began airing in reruns in the decades that followed, kids naturally watched the cartoon episodes but there weren't any references to beer or anything. that was simply during the prime-time airing's of the cartoon when kids were suppose to be in bed asleep...it was a different time.
I miss the good ol' days before anal-retentive soccer moms whining about beer and cigs on TV! Jesus H, I remember seeing this stuff as a kid and I didn't start smoking OR drinking because of Mr Magoo tipping a cold Stag or Fred Flintstone firing up a Winston. If anything, cartoon commercials like this remind me of the Good Old American Republic when we were a hell of a lot freer than we are today! We are so pissy nowadays.
What was that giant robot that appeared after the last Stag Beer commercial. One of my favorite cartoon characters thanks for posting hadnt seen him in years!
Oh yeah, nothing like watching a man almost being killed to make you want to drink. *shakes head* But I do have to admit, the last thing I'd want to do if I were that repairman was to give Magoo a beer.
Don't forget those G.E. light bulb spots he appeared in a few years later....Magoo could "pitch" anything, as long as it was funny and in "good taste".
You do realise they had cartoons shill for everything in the 50's, right? They were just amazed to see animations on TV.... Loved that last one, though.
As a regular Stag drinker, I have to say that this is one of the greatest things I have ever seen in my life. Thank you, Johnny Vegas, for bringing this to my attention.
Oh yeah! Every Wednesday night is Stag Night at Off Broadway in St. Louis. Dollar Stags and dollar PBRs. Let the Bud Light drinking fools pay full price for their beer flavored water.
