  • nice car!! but i think with that kinda power you need an E153 tranny upgrade to handle the torque plus FI car don't really need a close ratio gearbox cuz they got hella power to push through the longer gears

  • I would sell my old lady for that car.

    seriously

  • great car! hopefully that 2zz is boosted and not a k20 or some bullshit like that :)

  • how close are those gears seems really short.. maybe too short

  • @rps13sr - yes, the 6 speed is to shoort with the torque of the Turbo, especially the Kaaz gear set, but there are ways to fix that :)

  • i want one of those so bad

  • i am going to own a L O T U S

  • I thought this was a k20/24 swap. Since i'm not a fan of the newer miata's and the s2000 is too heavy, the lotus is a good choice. So this is a stroked 2zz with 11psi? I'm impressed

  • DO WANT! lol the exige is one of my dream cars...i love em. proof that a 4 cylinder isnt always a pushover

  • Have you had any reliability issues with this setup? I've been thinking about doing a build similar to this, and I'm wondering how far you can push it...

  • doesn't the exige already come with a supercharger?

  • @MetalCranium3 - not in 2004 it didn't.

  • @rsr20t oh i didn't know.

is that what the 's' in exige s is?

  • @MetalCranium3 and even so, a supercharger is not the same thing as a turbo charger

  • @raidacaipo i know that. lol

  • @MetalCranium3 and also only the Exige S has the supercharger

  • What screen is that? Is it a radar or what? It looks awesome.

  • @titanf50 Its an AIM Race Dash

  • wow, is like putting a nuke into ur car! awesome

  • this is a 2zzge toyota engine? sounds like a cam profile change when you initially accelarate off have you changed any of the internals? do/did you run at anymore than 9psi?

  • yes 2zz engine, Standard cam although cam is controlled by the Motec. Engine has a longer stroke to make it almost a 2L and yes currently running about 11psi... any more and it kills gear boxes.

  • @rsr20t sounds like you need a e153 conversion

  • @Leftsouless one of the more recent mods, car is very different today to the video.

  • @rsr20t any possible new vid on the lotus :D?

my friends got one and ive got a celica gt-s we both love our 2zz-ge engines :D

  • @Leftsouless switch to k20 you'd hate the 2zz

  • bumpy Wollongong roads =P .. how does she go through bulli pass or kangaroo valley?

  • @ranicx - It goes Great, its set up as a road car first, race car second and drives to and from most race meets in stead of trailered.

  • Your Exige is mint! Good work there guys!

  • I didn't realize this car was from Wollongong until now.

    This is yours?

  • No not mine, Its Jasons from Southern Motor Works in Albion Park, I've just helped with the car along the way.

  • Hello! You've got a great car! But tell me something: how did you do to increase power from 220hp to 400? Did you change the 1.8 Toyota or is it stock engine?

    Great job!

  • Did you have too many pints? Your on the wrong side of the road.

  • no he is not

  • @22reTOYOTA It's a British car and therefore on the correct side for the car ;-)

  • I know that!! Just messing around:)

  • @22reTOYOTA nah you did not!!!!

  • hell yea , fuckin brits

  • no hes not

  • @22reTOYOTA they're in europe fool -_-

  • @bltactboy17 Never heard of humor? They are in England. Most European countries drive on the right. FOOL.

  • @22reTOYOTA Maybe he isn't in America? thick person

  • @drnoob79 The only thing thick is that stick up your ass. Ever heard of humor?

  • @22reTOYOTA Youtube flips the video sometimes during upload,

  • Can i ask what exhaust system you guys run ... im guessing no cat but do you run a muffler or just straight pipe ?

Any details would be greatly appreciated.

    sounds very nice !

  • Yes, it does run a muffler, and it does run a large hi-flow cat as well. Muffler is locally made, and the rest of the exhaust made in house by Southern Motor Works.

  • this is such a nice car to drive ,perfect to do heel and toe while you're racing on a track ,it looks like an easy car to drive it moves like a fly it turns fast in any direction man I love it,my boss has one and it is incredible to drive.obviusly I drove the exige S supercharged 240hp can't imagine how better a 400hp turbo can be

  • You can hear the bigger cam profile kick in when he first revs it.

  • the car weights 860kg, so 465,11HP/tone

  • car weighs 930kg

  • approximately 400 bhp per ton but others have over 600 (mostly s1's)

  • I like!:) But we could really use a web site, so who ever owns a lotus exige can do the same to their car.

  • Is the car still around

  • man tht thing is awsome

  • 80mph is straight up on the right display. I think he got up to 140mph

  • this is a pure race car. I LOVING IT.

  • how much does it take to go from 0-60? with this one? my dad owns a regular exige S! looks sick man

  • FUCK the Evora. I want this.

  • 400Hp is insane for something that small, i like!

  • Love this car

  • i too, but the stock motor isn't my dream ;)

  • ooh my god...who can catch this car? maybe nobody and nothing...very nice. i love it!

  • what a frigging bomb! I love it!!

  • What are those flashin lijhts? Sorry my jee button is disfunctional atm, and I'm not a car fanatic. Are those flashin lijhts used to tell the driver when to shift?

  • The top row that lights up from green to red is a shift light, and I would take a wild guess that the one on the bottom right hand of the display is hooked up to the knock sensor.

  • yup

  • wicked fast car, too bad they don't show the dyno chart below 5000 rpm, it'd be interesting to see if it has any balls in the low rpm, or if it has power like a light switch.

  • The car is a race car designed for circuit racing and has power from the get-go.

  • It's rude, nasty, sick and I love it!

  • wow that thing will kill ya if you don't respect it....no side curtain wall airbags in this. if you have more money than driving ability you should stick to an AMG lol :)

    Great car. congrats :)

  • car has a full FIA roll cage and racing harness. its a race car and in 4 years of racing has always driven home at the end of the day

  • yeah man respect, just saying this car isn't for poor drivers! You need to know how to drive with 400bhp exige!

    Amazing :)

  • toyota engine... right?

  • @2007TypeR lol he punked u

  • Wow, the gearing on this car is NUTS!

  • an already awsome car just get better...

  • fucking awesome car! i prefer the vx turbo though.

  • umm please explain how having more power in a light car would defeat the purpose in owning it?

  • Only thing I would say is that the Exige is an already fantastic car.... on a tight track It's up there with the best supercars in the world.

Adding so much more power could well upset the refinement in the handling but it's sure to provide the thrills when you get a chance to open it wide :)

Great car.... would put most cars to shame.

  • very good point pal, not sure if 400 hp is needed here, would have to see it in the flesh!!

  • @supracrazy the elise isn't all about outright power.

  • nice car ! :-)

  • I..I want a turbo in my exige... how do i get it done??? Please tell!!!

  • force fed makes a fine package

  • What stage?? 2 or 3?

  • my word

  • 2006+ for Exige S2. 1.8l Toyota 2zz-GE motor. I have a 2005 Lotus Elise with the Forcefed kit. Mine is still at stock boost levels because I don't have a standalone ECU.

My car right now will do 100 in less than 9 seconds every time, and its only ~240whp.

Exige weighs about 100lbs more than the Elise, but has downforce improvements(front splitter and rear wing) and a different roof.

  • all i need todo now is slap a turbo on my gurls corolla and drop half the weight lol VVTL-I!! lol

  • what year is that model>?

  • That blinky thing is nice...

  • rev gauge

  • what engine does it have?

  • turbocharged toyota celica

  • Except rwd, lighter, and a hell of a lot better looking...

  • true, but that has nothing to do with the engine

  • The first two have everything to do with the drivetrain though, in which the engine is a huge part of.

  • the car is a vastly complex, inspired, interconnected piece of machinery and engineering yes

  • hey girls also get all the toys too!!!

  • I am sure they do, what batteries do they use?

  • hey i just had a lotus for the past week in vegas, so i think girls do get the best toys.

  • lol, thumbs up for you

  • haha for a week.

this guy owns it, and it has twice the horsepower of a normal exige, so are you sure you got the best toy?

  • so, it was better than not getting one at all, and in due time i will have my own, its too good not to get one.

  • wow this thing is the real deal

  • jason, when r u gunna bye your old tory back and come and do some REAL racing with us up at the strip?

    pinkstuff

  • did all the modifications affect in any way the handling???

  • FACK that's quick!!!

  • all that power from 1.8 liter engine

  • and a toyota engine at that. love these things. will have to get one. ;) nice post

  • Lotus. Handling Gods with performance to rip your eyes out!

  • That motor isn't made to take more than about 300hp as is the chassis. I assume it can be detuned to that level to keep everything balanced and reliable...?

  • The chassis can handle this hp without any problem

  • lotus perde ferrair

  • quest lacia i Ferrari di dietro

  • Thankyou for the video, and not putting music!

But my I do have to say that little car FLIES with 400HP!

Where did you get the modification and tuning done? I want to buy one of these cars in 3-4 years

  • Everything was done by Southern Motor Works (SMW) in NSW Australia. The base kit is a Forced Fed 275 Turbo kit which has been extensivly built apon by SMW to get it to 400hp and tuned by them with a Motec M400 ECU.

  • Thanks for the reply

I will be looking for these parts soon after my purchase :) thanks!

Btw How fast did that thing hit? I see the spedometer was near maxing out!

  • that car is bad ass. its such an underdog type of car but with a turbo that thing must haul ass since it weighs hardly anything.

  • Obviously you have no Idea to make a comment like that.

  • 1gDSM4g63 are you fucking stupid that car seems like it has more than 400hp and it is putting it all to the road look at the spedo dumbass

  • lov the guage color

  • hey does the top come off like the elise or the type 72

  • yes it does, but Lotus doesn't recomend driving the car with the roof off.

  • Hahaha, why not?

  • The air intake is on the roof is it not?

  • that actually goes to the intercooler I think

  • on the exige it goes to the intake but the exige s it goes to the intercooler.

  • On another video they show the build up a litle bit and the side vents feed the intercooler, not the roof scoop.

  • IF you dont mind me asking, how much did that cost:O did you buy the car brand new then get it tune by southern motor work or what dont have to answear the price bit but just how you got their lol.

  • The car was bought brand new, then modified and tuned by SMW.

  • I was reading up on the ForceFed 275hp package and was planning to get that. Did you use that and added other engine components and tuned it? Correct me if I'm wrong, but is there also a ForceFed 400hp turbo package as well?

  • Its the FF275hp kit with a lot more development and tuning by Southern Motor Works.

  • You could probably swap the stock straight-4 with an iron block 4 from an evo with heavy mods, or maybe even a supercharged V8 from a Cobra 'Stang. I don't know why the Exige isn't used more in racing. It's better than a Hachiroku if you ask me.

  • good god...Power to weight ratio on that car with 400Hp would probably make it feel like 1000HP....Very nice acceleration!

  • Lotus dont make FWD cars.

  • Lotus made one car that was front wheel drive. The Lotus Elan M100. 3855 were made. 559 imported to the U.S. Production started in 1989 and ended in 1992. This car is known as the S1. The first and only Lotus FWD.

  • Very Nice! read wheel drive? i though it ws Front..

  • awesome car

  • Thats fckn Fast!

  • i was wondering what SMW stands for

  • SMW is Southern Motor Works (the workshop that built and owns the car in Australia)

  • Well ya, a Celica's a POS.

  • Makes my Celica look like an absolute tortoise

  • thats quick!!

  • XD

    I like!

  • i want that!

  • Damn-it somebody let me drive one. I can't stand the anticipation I don't care if I am a female. I still have

the need for speed and the guts to do it!

  • whatever you do, dont drive your boyfriends' car..xD someone that feel the need for speed, buys it themself!

  • I agree totally and did it already!

  • Amazing video. I suppose then, that you recommend the Force Fed package?

  • hmmm, i've got an Exige S an I love it. I'm sure that cars a wee bit more fun tho : (

  • sexy...

  • holy crap!! you guys did an awsome job on this fantastic car!! i love the lotus even more now, knowing it can be modded like this! thnx for sharing

  • New Video coming soon... stay tuned...

  • can you make me one!

and i wantwd to ask if you can put a twin turbo on the elise?

  • For more info on the kits, contact Jason at Southern Motor Works PH: +61 242 566 429 Monday to Fridays 8am to 5:30pm Eastern Australian (Sydney) time.

  • cool thanks and thanks for the message.

  • pretty nice ride, espeacially da sound of the engine

  • How much was the turbo set up?

  • it was about $20k Australian installed with Motec ECU fully tunned, oil accumulator and a lot of other goodies.

  • How fast did you get up to at around 33 sec

  • can't remember exactly, but I'd guess that was about 220kph. would have to look at the dash to see.

  • The turbo spooling adds a nice sound to the lotus :)

What make/model of instrument is on the dash? Racepak?

  • It's an AIM MXL Race dash

  • exige turbo? thats crazy! This car is insane...Good job!

  • A very nice car and engine!

  • I'd like to have one

  • What engine have you gone with? Is it the Toyota or have you taken the Audi route?

  • It is the toyota 2zz modified to SMW specs.

  • how fast did you get it to there?

  • no idea, have never tested it properly, its built for the track, not for straight line (although straight line is a hell of a lot of fun) :P

  • realy strong...

  • those poor tires

  • but is it track driveable or predictable on damp/wet roads.. i mean they fitted a supercharger to the exigeS so there was progressive but instant power. imagine the 400bhp turbo spooling up on the exit of a corner ! jeez

  • Very Driveable and predictable, power delivery is very smooth, Traction isn't a problem in the dry. Being aggressive in the wet it will break traction very easy, but it is very smooth an easy to drive in the wet if you're not agressive. It's alot like a go kart, so much fun to drive, so much better then an ExigeS.

  • Damn that car really pulls. A shit load of hp for a small ass car like that. i would like to see an evo or sti try to take on it.

  • That small toy-like car with 400hp?! Devil like....

  • that car is beoynd all comprehension

  • no, you can compare it to a noble m400 ;-)
