The plastic shell deformed and rebounded. Take that shell off and look at the real "bumper" - it likely is crushed on that corner.

Painting flexible substrates (plastic bumpers) is not cheap. Most shops will toss the plastic shell and pick up a new one - it's cheaper and is guaranteed to be right.

Just because the bumper cover pops back into shape, it doesn't mean the car wasn't damaged in the collision.

The problem can be damage concealed by the bumper cover that can affect certain parts of the car, such as the function of the rear hatchback (ability to open, ability to close, ability to seal from the outside).

Mind you, this is a problem with a lot of automakers from around the world.

Also, the bumper absorbs the shock, but the plastic bends and the paint starts flaking after a while, and needs to be repainted. Paint jobs aren't cheap, and could cost a few hundred dollars for a simple little thing like this.
