Cool video and great cover. I absolutely love the 'Thank You' record. In fact, I actually think their cover of 'Thank You' is better than the Led Zeppelin original.
when I first heard this, I didn't even know it was a cover. I will not say its better that the original but I like this a lot better. My favorte in the cd aside from "Ordinary World"... GREAT COVER! VERY SPIRITED...
I'm a Duran Duran fan, but they stripped out the ethereal feel that made the original so damn good. Unfortunately, their cover of Perfect Day is no better. They should've stuck to what they did best and left the Lou Reed stuff alone.
femme fatale is my favorite VU song, and this is shitting on it. only because they are duran duran. the song is so personal to me listening to a joke like duran duran is worse than them jabbing a pitchfork into my ear
Good try but I would never choose this above the original song. I like Duran Duran but The Velvet Underground and Nico... now that's something different.
The original is not even good. The singer from Velvet underground can't sing. She talks through the song in a weird accent. Duran Duran brings the song to lige though.
C'mon now, those of you calling this the best have never been blessed to hear Big Star's cover (it's a shame that most of the world missed out on Alex Chilton's brilliance) - the guitar work alone makes it the best - but there are numerous bands out there that have done justice to this song. Which just demonstrates that it was a terrific, timeless bit of songwriting at the outset.
I absolutely hate Duran Duran. I couldn't believe they covered this! Who knew they had such great taste in music! I thought 'this'll be atrocious!' but it's fantastic! Fuckin' brilliant. Credit where it's due.
@BarrySlisk Barry my man. I don't lack taste, but Duran Duran are just not for me, I appreciate their existence in rock music, but they're not for me. But this cover version is terrific. And I think you lack a bit of taste too if you think the original is no good. Nico has a once-in-life-time voice.
Duran Duran is not one style, so you must like some of it. Maybe you dislike the old teenage pop Duran Duran? The albums "Big Thing" and "Notorious" are more mature if that's your thing. And both excellent.
@BarrySlisk Hey buddy. I've never really given this band a real chance, I'll admit that. I guess from what I've heard, I've never bothered. I'm sure they have some great albums, but I wouldn't think I'll ever hear them. But I am sure they are great. All the same buddy, they covered this classic and did it really really well.
I like this version, although, I like the original because it was written specifically for Edie Sedgwick, and Nico and Edie were friends because of The Factory, so you can sense more feeling and emotion are put into the original compared to this,.
i hope the wedding album gets the special edition treatment. loads of remastered excellent songs, 4 videos (including this one) and mtv unplugged with the underrated and much missed lamya

@jrubin68 Uh? Most of their music is their own so how can it be way over their talent & ability? However, if you're referring to the several covers they have produced over the past 29 years, I strongly disagree. All their music is damn fine. Maybe your tympanic membranes need a service :)

@benjaminrichardshoop Just made it so much more mushhhy than it should be, the emotion's in the words it doesn't need to be dressed up. thats just my oppinion
Both versions are good but Duran Duran's is better. Simon's superb voice makes it. DD have actually done some really excellent covers in their time..........
@duranme78 Dude I wont even bother with you. Everybody will agree with me that The Velvet Underground is better than Duran Duran, but the 60's is the best generation for music, so you don't have any shit on the music made from then, and if you do think it sucks, you are obviously not a music fan and you are really ignorant and are oblivious to art and beauty. And Duran Duran is mainly an 80's band, so go fuck youself
@skovie23232 but you do bother dipshit. And it's really arrogant to say that I'm not a music fan. You sound like some psuedo-intellectual who think something is art because someother psuedo-intellectual says so. Keep posting and I'll keep calling you out for your ignorance.
@skovie23232 The 80's was when the Velvets influence had really peaked and was being most reflected you dumb fuck ! ( like check out groups like Dream Sindicate, Pseudo Echo, Joy Division,.. etc. ) The Velvets were actually out of their time during the hippy-dippy folky 60's.
@skovie23232 Oh, and I'l bet that you dont know shit about music from the 80's either. You're undoubtedly another ignorant dumbfuck who thinks the 80's were nothing but ohhhh,.. Micheal Jackson, Madona, Def Lepard, Bon Jovi and the like. Well the 80's had it's share of great music,.. it just wasn't the really obvious shit of the decade,.. thats all. So go stipp raw, pute some flowers in your hair, and fuck some VD riddled skank while listening to some folk music you stupid hippy pig !
Good cover of a very good song. Duran Duran is a tight band, good musicians and solid vocals. Velvet Underground and Nico's renditions will never be surpassed, but that doesn't mean Duran Duran didn't do it justice. krisdd527 is right-on, the highest form of compliment.

ha! as if simon le bon and the other members of duran duran could take a break long enough from plooking each other in the pooper to express interest in a femme of any sort, much less a femme fatale of the fake new-wave vampire variety!
@lhart99 try to listen a acoustic version too,the singer is Elisa, she's a italian songwriter, try to listen the live of lotus(her acoustic album) i hope you'll enjoy it..^^
I dont agree.. its so much better than the original.. all the covers from duran duran are better than original.. u can say it is not.. but only bcs of nostalgy
hmm.. o.k. I think I also like this version, especially the end, it's different from the original version. This version of the song might fit in a movie, I think.
This version is just not as good as the version by the velvets, but it doesn't have to be, it's fine :)
Wow. This version of the song was actually the version that got me into the velvet underground. I love it! I think its a better arrangement than the original. I always feel Nico's version ends too early, the song could've evolved so much more! I love this version.
Cool video and great cover. I absolutely love the 'Thank You' record. In fact, I actually think their cover of 'Thank You' is better than the Led Zeppelin original.

Both versions are good but Duran Duran's is better. Simon's superb voice makes it. DD have actually done some really excellent covers in their time..........

Wow, fantastic cover of this song.

@skovie23232 Have your heard the original buddy? Maybe I should question your IQ?
duranme78 1 year ago
@duranme78 Yes and The Velvet Underground is way better than these 80's piece of shits
skovie23232 1 year ago
@skovie23232 funny this is a cover done in the 90's from crap made in the 60's.
duranme78 1 year ago
@duranme78 Dude I wont even bother with you. Everybody will agree with me that The Velvet Underground is better than Duran Duran, but the 60's is the best generation for music, so you don't have any shit on the music made from then, and if you do think it sucks, you are obviously not a music fan and you are really ignorant and are oblivious to art and beauty. And Duran Duran is mainly an 80's band, so go fuck youself
skovie23232 1 year ago
@skovie23232 but you do bother dipshit. And it's really arrogant to say that I'm not a music fan. You sound like some psuedo-intellectual who think something is art because someother psuedo-intellectual says so. Keep posting and I'll keep calling you out for your ignorance.

@duranme78 No I'm okay I know I'm right
skovie23232 1 year ago
@skovie23232 The 80's was when the Velvets influence had really peaked and was being most reflected you dumb fuck ! ( like check out groups like Dream Sindicate, Pseudo Echo, Joy Division,.. etc. ) The Velvets were actually out of their time during the hippy-dippy folky 60's.
Skulldini 1 year ago
@skovie23232 Oh, and I'l bet that you dont know shit about music from the 80's either. You're undoubtedly another ignorant dumbfuck who thinks the 80's were nothing but ohhhh,.. Micheal Jackson, Madona, Def Lepard, Bon Jovi and the like. Well the 80's had it's share of great music,.. it just wasn't the really obvious shit of the decade,.. thats all. So go stipp raw, pute some flowers in your hair, and fuck some VD riddled skank while listening to some folk music you stupid hippy pig !

@skovie23232 Wait ! No no no. Make THAT you stupid smelly lice-infested hippy baby boomer pig !!

This is THE BEST cover I've ever heard of this song. It doesn't beat the original, but it comes pretty dam close. :-)

hmm.. o.k. I think I also like this version, especially the end, it's different from the original version. This version of the song might fit in a movie, I think.
This version is just not as good as the version by the velvets, but it doesn't have to be, it's fine :)
dazzpop 2 years ago 3
whaha :P I like duran duran but I like the velvet's more :)
dazzpop 2 years ago
Wow. This version of the song was actually the version that got me into the velvet underground. I love it! I think its a better arrangement than the original. I always feel Nico's version ends too early, the song could've evolved so much more! I love this version.

Why does Duran Duran insist on ruining perfectly good Velvet Underground tunes?
BeautifulBlue82 2 years ago
they're fans of the Velvets just like you and I.
Lou Reed has heard all of it, and actually voiced his appreciation, saying they do those songs the way he always wish them to be heard.
