I think yall got this all wrong despite his appearance of being broken and his mind right he played to the mans wishes then broke and showed them that till the very end he had his own mind and wouldnt get his mind right to what the man wanted. This was one humbling scene to watch when I first watching this film for the first time when i was younger. Movies like One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest, Network, and this one where one man tries to take on a Institution but, falls short of his goal resonates with people of all generations

Also, this movie was build on a stupid offense. He was cutting the heads of of parking meters. Added to the strange foundation to this movie. His "criminal" offense was super minor as to what people do today.
