Mallard's boiler cert has long since expired, so not allow to run. It would need a lot of work done on to get it back up to current modern day railway running regs, with extra saftey equipment needing fitting etc. The thing is if this work is done, more of the original parts of the loco will need replacing, which the NRM i don't think will do (never say never though). So for the time being, Mallard is one of the star museum exhibits.Cheers.
@ay76 yes thats what they said to me, but the daft thing is...shes about 80 years old so no parts are orrigional! they just dont want ruin that lovely lner finnish and condition by as you say adding aws & vac brakes on hervbut also they are not in the finantional conditions to overhall her. she will problbly return within the next 40yrs so look forward to that! but for now...great vid & very detailed! :)
@gresleya3kid Talking to the staff at the NRM, they told me there is a lot of original parts still on it. But as it stands no plans to return her to mainline running. However never say never....
Not this one any more :-( but some of the national collection can be seen out & about on loan to other preserved railways, plus once rebuilt / overhauled Flying scotsman will be back out on the mainlines again :-) Cheers.
One of the explainers just asked another explainer to go & open it up. Must be a regular thing they do. 1st time i've seen it opened up, so quite a treat to see. Cheers.
hey it looks funny when they open its up at the front, it has the face of an A3, and i wondered wat tht little hole was above the front bogies, its the hoel of how to close the door, thts preety kool, i wonder if they would ever think about it running again
Hi Brandon, that last question, is the big one. Will they or won't they run it again?? I think as it's one of the star's of the NRM, it's going to stay as it is..... then again never say never!! I hope one day you'll get to come over to the UK & visit the NRM & seem Mallard for real. Hope this video is the next best thing to seeing her. Kind regards.
great museum! it does surprise me to see such large locos not on short bits of track which is as we do it here in America...when I saw the title, and York, I quickly thought, wow, he's gone to New York to film a 'streamliner' which here usually referred to the diesel as opposed to the steam locomotive...we did have steam locos that were stylized...I look forward to the next part - thanks :)
My dream to drive an A4 =] shame 60019 doesnt wear her Valances even though it hides the valve gear and is a nuisacne to keep taking off if theres problems, It'd be a first for quite a few people.
I went on the 28th of last month and one of the NRM volunteers was polishing the footplate of Mallard and me and some others got to go in the cab for a while the first time since I was six! I will upload the video soon, those bucket seats are bloody comfortable made my day!

MrEminemrulz 1 year ago
@MrEminemrulz No. The Flying Scotsman's tender, was over by the NRM's works part of the museum. what you see here is Mallard's tender.

One question, why Mallard doesn´t run with special trains? Is she broken down?
