Fantastic. Those were the years when she was really in her prime. Was fortunate to see her Tosca in Vienna at that time. Still nobody since then has had such a supple full and warm voice and exquisite piano like her.

didn't maria callas and renata tebaldi sing this concert together? or was this another one? i've read that first they agreed on not to sing any encore. but then la tebaldi sang one, or more, and that's where the "problems", the discrepancies began between callas and tebaldi

The concert you are refering was in 1951. This performance was recorded from a live performance at the Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro, three years later, in 1954. The public in Rio was awarded with an equally stunning encore of the aria. Tebaldi came back to Brazil several times to please her enumerous fans. She was the Queen of Opera in the 50´s in Rio.

Gosh this interpretation is magnificent indeed. Tebaldi`s tone is just exquisite. I don`t mean to upset you Andante735, but to my ears she is usually flat as she approaches the top of her voice. But her ravishing sound more than makes up for that. This Bb is definately slightly under - albeit only just. Please don`t reply aggressively - this is just an observation.

I didn't intend to direct any aggressive retorts at you although I admit and apologize for my lack of control.I have a problem with people when they go overboard, i.e "she's alway flat"(not you)It's also difficult when you have such a strong attachment to a singer; and that can be anyone from Tebaldi, Callas, or whoever.
