Superboy was pretty much a precursor to the Power Rangers' series. If you look at the opening credits from the later of Season 1 and some of the episodes themselves, too, there is a strong Japanese influence in the Superboy episodes. Especially the bad guys or some of the technology used...you could tell Saiban stole some of the ideas from this show itself. If you look at the Power Rangers series and this...you could see where the influence came from.

To be precise, until the "Crisis on Infinite Earths" Clark Kent was both Superman and Superboy. Also, until this event, it was believed that Clark was the disguise and Supes was the real guy. Thank god, both of these things were changed afterwards to Clark NEVER being Superboy and the good ol' farmboy is really the man behind the suit.
