nice car but cannot understand why the a4 has a V4 engine as the base version and it costs as much as the base mercedes and bmw which have v6 variants in their base models. so a bit too expensive i feel. they need to scrap their V4s and go with V6 as the base if audi needs to compete with other luxury brands.

@ThePurdude 1st point, I mean that a base A4 comes with a 4 cylinder engine and not a 6 cylinder which is true. yes its not V4 but its I4 (inline 4). and I4 = 4 cylinders, end of story. and next, a base bmw 328i (coupe or sedan) comes with a 3.0 6-cyl. engine. Dont know which part of the world you are from but BMW doesn't come with a 4 cylinder engine. the 328 makes 230 HP compared to 211 HP of the A4. so the base BMW has a significantly higher performance standards than the base Audi thats all.

@shibbness I got the APR Stage 1 tune for my wife's A4 cabrio on her birthday a couple of weeks back. Extra HP and lots more torque. She's loving it. Audi gets so much power from their engines and leaves a lot of room for tuning. Best $600 I ever spent on a car. The car is faster than you need for most daily driving and has the oomph when you need it on the freeway to blow by someone. Doubt it'd be close to your S4, though. I drove one this year. Sweet. Tune that and you can kill an M3.

We've got one! We payed for chiptuning, and got 252 ps and 380 Nm. And also decreased the consumption by 0,89 l/100 km. Really good car, with low weight and great performance. Nobody knows how strong it is. :) Often they suprise on the roads.

A4 engine not s4. For performance it's the s4 drivetrain, suspension, and handling. For looks it's the s4 body, s4 wheels of last year, upgraded interior, but a4 exhaust. I'm told the ECU mod gets s4 stats out of the a4 engine.
