All buddhists including His Holiness the Dalai Lama are free to eat whatever they choose. I will point out however that in the earliest recording of his teachings, the Tripitaka, the Buddha did not categorically forbid his disciples to eat meat. In fact, if meat were put into a monk's alms bowl, the monk was SUPPOSED to eat it. Monks were to gratefully receive and consume all food they were given, including meat.

Compassion can most definitely manifest as anger. Being self-realized, which I am not but am working towards, does not mean having the mentality of "I am good, you are good, everything is good, no problem". That is ignorant. Self-realization means seeing things for what they are.
As for my question of "What stupid western view of religion do YOU have?", I did not mean what philosophy do you believe in. What I meant is what conception of what religion is do you have that would give you the idea that someone can be a follower of specific religious teachings, and yet do whatever they want? That is a completely western idea which makes absolutely no sense.
If someone believes that staring at the sun will destroy their eyes, and that destroying their eyes would be bad, then they will live on that basis. Similarly, if someone "believes in Jesus", then it should follow that they live by Jesus's teachings. If someone "believes in Buddha", then it should follow that they live by Buddha's teachings. But in western society you see people who say "I am Christian", and yet don't even know what Jesus said, and same with other religions.
Now why would I put effort into "abusing someone" online who most likely doesn't care what I have to say? I would say that feeling anger upon encountering someone propagating ignorance, thereby leading people who believe said ignorance into suffering, is perfectly justified and, dare I say, good. Compassion can most definitely manifest as anger. Being self-realized, which I am not but am working towards, does not mean having the mentality of "I am good, you are good, everything is good, no problem". That is ignorant. Self-realization means seeing things for what they are.

As for my question of "What stupid western view of religion do YOU have?", I did not mean what philosophy do you believe in. What I meant is what conception of what religion is do you have that would give you the idea that someone can be a follower of specific religious teachings, and yet do whatever they want? That is a completely western idea which makes absolutely no sense.

If someone believes that staring at the sun will destroy their eyes, and that destroying their eyes would be bad, then they will live on that basis. Similarly, if someone "believes in Jesus", then it should follow that they live by Jesus's teachings. If someone "believes in Buddha", then it should follow that they live by Buddha's teachings. But in western society you see people who say "I am Christian", and yet don't even know what Jesus said, and same with other religions.

Now why would I put effort into "abusing someone" online who most likely doesn't care what I have to say? Because more people than just you will read these comments and perhaps they will agree with what I have to say. And to tolerate ignorance is to spread it yourself. As for being in the wilderness and needing meat to survive, okay, that's fine, although highly unlikely. Thousands of saints have lived in the forests of India without meat.

3. the Dalai Lama has shown open-mindedness by inviting Quantum Mechanics professor to give a talk to him and other monks. has the interviewer shown any form of open-mindedness by learning more about Tibetian Buddhism before this interview?
