My ipad 1 got this problem two days ago... Has anyone managed to repair the ipad by just opening and moving the display cable? If yes, I'll give it a try...
Same here. Exactly after the warranty expired and exactly one day after I returned from the US. Unfortunately we don't have Apple Stores in Brazil. If the problem happened while I was there, I could have taken it for exchange! I will replace the LCD myself. Bought tools already.
@bbruschi Consegui sim. Eu troquei a tela e o cabo.
@tganzarolli Cara, tentei mexer no cabo aqui e nada... você comprou a tela no DX? Se sim, qual é o SKU certo? Se não, onde você comprou? O meu é o 3G, será q tem alguma diferença na tela ou no digitizer? Abraço!
@ellebeltran I double checked my AppleCare on line. I though it was only for a year, but it's good until May 2012, so Apple replaced replaced my iPad free of charge.
The same problem occurred to mine yesterday (just not as bad) ... perfect, right after Apple Care ended. Restored and updated and it still persists. I will be calling a computer store (Not an Apple store) tomorrow.
Oh crap, this happened to my iPad too, but my whole screen is covered with lines. Does anyone know what I have to do to get it fixed? Also, I got my iPad like almost a year ago. Can they still replace it, if it's a manufacture defect or am I screwed?
Since this is pretty clearly a manufacturer defect, I would expect it to be fixed/replaced for free. Don't worry about warranties or AppleCare or whatever, if they sell a product and it breaks in an unreasonably short timeframe due to a manufacturing defect, the company is obligated to fix it. You just have to argue with them a bit sometimes, since they'll always punt to make you deal with it if you give them the option.
the LCD has to be replaced restoring will do nothing. you can buy a new LCD on ebay, wireless parts inc.com or global direct parts.com and replace it yourself (if you know how) or take it to a professional mobile device technician (not an apple store) and have them install it for you.
