That takes me back. I used to produce 800XL and Dragon 32 games back in the day. I even found some old tapes and managed to get them to work in an EMU a few years ago. Some titles were not released. I may still have the .cas files
'Harry' range of games for dragon 32 released by Libre software in the UK. Sadly these are now all long lost. Most notable was Harry the headbanger which was a breakout clone where the bat was two guys with a trampoline and the ball being harry who would sumersault up to take out the wall. Harry goes bananas where you had to collect bananas from the trees before they fell to ground avoiding spiders, ponds etc
I have a cas file that works with Altirra of 'Wizard Castle'.
If this system was coming out this year I would freakin buy it. I actually have it but cant find the games anywhere even ebay. These games are much better than the modern stuff. 1983-1993. The best decade in video game history by a HUGE margin. Also, what is that gorgeous music from?
Joust, Miner 249er, and Missile command are my top 3 favorite games of all time!!! (closely followed by ES Oblivion, which would be number 1 if it wasn't for nostalgia)
I stopped the video on the first game and had warm memories. Ali-Baba and the 40 thieves was an awesome game. IMHO, better than Heracles which followed it.
i had an atari 65 xe but it never hardly worked.i think centipede was the only thing i ever got to load on it and there was only about three games released on it or so it seemed at the time.i was only about 11 i think..this music is amazing and the games look cool.
Hey subj1, did you use an emulator to make your (very cool) videos? If so, which one, Atari800WinPlus? If so, I was just wondering if you might be interested in doing a little online retro gaming sometime? The emulator I mentioned (if you use it, you probably know) has Kaillera Client support. There is also MAME, CCS64 & NEStopia. I'm always looking for new online retro gaming friends, but it's VERY hard to find people interested in online classic gaming. Let me know? Thanks! :-)
I used Atari800WinPL v4.0, and I have all the Emulators you mentioned along with complete ROM collections for each. I also collect original retro games as I have large collections of boxed and loose NES, SNES, N64, Genesis, Atari 8-bit, C64, PS2/PS3/NGC/Wii/Xbox/Xbox 360 titles. Sure PM me and we can arrange an online session, haven't tried playing retro games online yet (other than MK2 on PS3)
@subj1 Sure, whenever you like. Setup is easy & reliant only on us both having identical emulator/ROM versions. So you are into TOSEC/Goodsets (full rom sets) too, eh? I have like 40 emulators & well over 50,000 ROMs. I also have 16 retro consoles & about 200+ assorted, loose & some boxed carts. I think my collection may be a bit more vintage than yours. More late 70's, early 80's systems (Atari Ultra Pong (pre-2600 console), Magnavox Odyssey, Fairchild Channel F, Bally Astrocade, etc)
Oh my God...memories....memories........Atari 800xl.....memories...kids...now 31 and the world is on fire.....those days 11-12 and playing like a mad....:))
Thanks for the vid. I get so nostalgic when I see them again after such a long time. I've got some suggestions for instalment 3!
Here's my quick list of titles: Necromancer, Drelbs, Preppie, Astro Chase, Goonies, Zeppelin, Racing Destruction Set.
Was there also a game called Air Raid? It was a split-screen side scroller where you had to bomb your enemy with your plane. I remember the controls were quite tricky and would love to get hold of it again.
these 2 videos were great...i thin kthe next rainy weekend ill dig my still working 130xe and disk drive out and hook it up....i have the benefit of having an up-scaler so i can use it at 640x480 on a pc monitor and pc speakers
Have you seen the video of Tempest Xtreme for the XL and XE line. It looks and sounds amazing, the music still sounds like the music from the Jaguar version and even has the same voices. It is in my Atari 8-bit playlist and on my main page.
You can turn on color on seemingly black and white titles (like Hard Hat Mack was displayed) by turning on artifacting. CTIA mode for NTSC and GTIA mode for PAL
Still too many missing great games. Buried Bucks, Encounter, Oil's Well, Jr. and Super Pac Man, Zenji, Ultima III and IV, Alternate Reality City and Dungeon, Zone Ranger, and yet others I can't think of off hand all deserve a spot in a video like this. I'd make my own if I could....
well damn close bro, but its not Tomahawk, it was very simulated helicopter game, you use the keyboard to start off the helicopter and to take off, then you press the Joystick button again to move forward. then you go ahead and you shoot down some airplanes, when you get hit, there is damage, and the controls of the helicopter becomes more difficult. it was a very interesting game
can anyone tell me what is the name of this helicopter game, like apache helicopter, when you have to start the helicopter with the keyboard, it was kind of simulated old school apache game, it was awesome. and also there is another game, when you have a green flying dragon goes around and you have to collect eggs back to your cave, and you push the button in order to fly, do you have any chance knowing these two games? thanks bro

After Congo Bongo and before Druid, there appears to be 2 games, but only Dan Strikes Back is listed. Which of the 2 is DSB and what is the other game? Thanks! Great videos!
I had a look, some I'd never seen.. interesting. rescue on fractulas is probably easiy my fav.. or hacker.. there is 2 games you missed maybe "orc attack" and errm a space game by english software that was ROCK to play.. tape loading was the reason I went c64.. atari was poor like that , and getting the games in the UK was a joke.. there are a few more zeppelin games (makers of zybex) which are nice also.
If you used an emulator for this footage, you could have turned on "artifacting" for Hard Hat Mack, and Stellar Shuttle. It would made the footage colorful. Back in the days that TV's weren't as high resolution as they are now, those stripy patterns turned into colors. Specially american software used this "feature".
Good point - back in the day I played these games on a relatively modern PAL TV and witnessed them as black and white. But turning on artifacting does bring out colors.
please give me the name of the game on 1:43
