  • found it! your camp looked beautiful! will the dome go back in 2012? provided everyone gets tickets...

  • @burningmanmike We will be back in 2012 for sure...and our camp will probably be twice as big, and twice as interactive! Thanks for watching!

  • was going to ask why you didn't use a chop saw, or just spray-paint ends to color-code and save time. after viewing, saving time didn't seem to be important. you seemed to be methodical, had a system down, and moved with a certain flow. slow and steady, with purpose, and wanted to get it right...the first time. good job!

now how about some video of your dome on the playa, showing us how it performed. please?

  • @burningmanmike Hey Mike. This was my first Dome project. I didn't have access to a chop saw at the time, in fact, most of the tools I used were from friends, and the Hydraulic press was from a metal shop. The guy was nice enough to let me use it for free while he was working. The next dome I build will be much easier because I will have a better idea of what tools to use, and how much time I may need to spend on the project.

  • Great Job guys, I just finished mine for this years burn. It's smaller but it was fun to build. I didn't have any tools like you I have to hammer all my ends flat and use a regular drill to make my holes. I'll look for you on the playa. Cheers, Bryan

  • @CorneliusProject if you want to see my dome, check out the video in my profile.

  • @kevinfrank54 Thanks for watching! We will be at 4:45 and Hajj this year...

  • Fantastic! I am grateful for your amazing efforts in helping to spread the ideas of a resource based economy! I hope you have many visitors.

  • Nice work y'all! This project is brilliant. It will attract amazing conversations, it will instill curiosity, and it will help educate others on how we will create a truly civilized society through cooperation. I'm grateful and inspired by your dedication. Way to bring your vision to life John!

  • What was the over all dome size height / radius also what were the long and shorts lengths etc.Iam interested in building a dome also.

  • @hd2kill The Dome Height is 14'. The Radius is 12'. Diameter 24'. Circumferance 75'. I used the 3V (3 triangles within one side of an Icosahedron), 5/8 (5/8ths of a sphere) Dome formula, which is why the height is larger than the radius and not equal. I had to use 3 different strut lengths to get the precise measurements for this Dome. I had 80 5' 3/4" struts, 55 4' 11 1/4" struts, and 30 4' 3 1/4" struts.

  • @hd2kill I got it right the first time thanks to desertdomes . com, I suggest you check it out before you start building.
