  • Why would anyone visit a site on modern architecture then complain they don't like modern architecture? If anyone knows "Ghery" (obviously not) then they should know he is a conservative architect. His plans are rational and (unlike others) he builds from the inside out - the correct way. Another point - his "innards" (plumbing, lighting, temp control, pitch, etc) are sheer perfection.

  • @smb123211 I defy modern architecture, and anyone who likes it cleary has no taste.

This looks awful. and It's such a real shame that a new generation of architects are being breeded and they are breeded to think that these buildings look good. They don't, they look stupid. They have unnecessary features.

I don't understand why people disregard lovely beaux arts and neo-classical buildings and praise this form of architecture... it's such a shame.

  • @ForeverComplaining There is nothing more subjective than style. I live near the city with the only exact copy of the Parthenon replete wth Athena's statue. I respect classical arts but realize they are retrofitted ancient copies - like sticking an Ipad on a horse and carriage.

Modern design uses technology - plumbing, heat, cooling, electricity, materials other than stone or wood. As such they can stretch the imagination. But it's all a matter of choice. Take Care.

  • amazing design, really cool!

  • Why is MY house on YouTube??? It's called PERMISSION, people!

  • Some of the architecture of these buildings is amazing and breathtaking!

  • who made this video is a poor idiot .. sorry for you

  • what building is it on 0:55??

  • my god~!

  • hate to break it to you this is contemporary architecture not modern architecture

  • @bnel890 modern. postmodern. :)

  • wáhnsinñ_lêútÊ_sÚcht_mÅl_ñÀch:_olikohle_aÙf_gòÕglE_vÕll_gëÎl

  • 2:35 looks like my highschool... ugh

  • This is why I want to become an architect when I become older :)

  • What building is on 1:59 ?

  • thanks for the video, really enjoyed it

  • architecture is so over rated. most of them i found to be completely incompetent who has no understanding of buildabilty or attention to safety, or just doesnt give a shit about the projects as soon as they released their drawings. which often the case will fall back into their face until they get it right. its has always been like this, they never learn. also now there is a cheap spin off called 'architectural technologist' who basically acts like a secretary to the architects.

  • Excellent!!!

  • nice buildings

  • Second building, where s it? how s t called???

  • James H. Klippel Creates a most beautiful vision of Modern Architecture growing from the Organic Principles in his short video, Terra Homage Organic Architecture.

  • they are allready change the planet massive: youtube.com/watch?v=VyX2G-RanBk

  • many Singaporean architecture... nice!

  • death star by far the worst -.-

  • 1. Lumber

    2. Glass for Windows.

    3. Steel for framing.

    4. Cementing

  • We are currently in an era of post modernism(and that is how you would classify these buildings). Modernism was a movement back in the turn of the 20th century until the mid 50's to 60's. However Modern in the sense of the now, does make sense

  • @bnel890 the word is contemporary but some peolpe call it MM4 (modern movement, neomodern or supermodern).

  • @bnel890 and post modernism was about 60´s to 90´s.

  • Holy crap it's so coooool!

  • MUHTESEM ULKE BEN BAYILDIM DOGRUSU

    GEL DESELER HEMEN GIDERIM

  • nice but be more carefull with your title, it is not modern architecture but contemporary. Modern architecture even if it sounds weird is a architectural movement of the past

  • 2:06

  • seems to be alot of concept, except 2:10 in japan

  • @WoordWerks

Then why are so many architecture schools teaching students to design like starchitects?

  • @samthelima because they also suffer from bloated egos?

  • Sorry but this is not modern architecture..this is contemporary architecture. The term "modern" is referred to, approximately, the first half of the twentieth century. Very nice architecture anyway!

  • @virgoulini I know what you mean. In 7th grade my art teacher taught our class the difference between "modern" and "contemporary". Contemporary refers to today, yet I observe a lot of people refer to it as modern.

  • @liamjasonanderson Yes, I know that...It's a pitty because not many people know about that difference! anyway! very nice buildings!

  • this actually made me choke up with emotion.

  • check out dornob.com

    not spam,

just an awesome website with some really interesting architecture stuff :)

  • @antijelly I second that.

  • I am a fan of Modernism and architecture, but I have come to have very serious doubts about modern architecture in recent years. What do most (if not all) of these buildings really say? They are wonderful as sculpture, but they really make only one major statement about our age: "I have money, and I have power, and the technology will allow me to be here." These are self reverential buildings, worshiping no idea, but only themselves...they are the corporate version of gangsta gold chains.

  • is 3:22 not the allianz arena?

  • 1:05 kinda looks like the Death Star!

But anyway i wanna be an architect!

  • Please watch my video popsicle masterpiece,

    Its old school architecture.

  • Join the architech community!

  • love that modern arhitecture deals a lot with the impact that the enweromont hase on the buiding and how palys with natiral light and more light materilas , i have googk sketchup b

  • sounds like the chamions league tune

  • still a industry leader

  • good video and the perfect selecte of music

    good job!!!!

  • This isn't moder it is super cool futuristic!!

  • So basically the most inefficient-looking building is the most modern?

  • @BifSlamkovich lol, they certinly seem to make that the case don't they

nah, the most modern looking in my opinion is the one that utilizes teh most modern methods (duh!) and the material whether traditional or new in a contemp "style"

  • Amazing imaginations and beautiful sounds of the architects' souls :)

  • Wow....i saw one of these buildings in my dreams.

  • most of these designs and structures are not modernism. must admit some of these structures and designs are not functional at all. they are piece of shit.

  • this is Post-Modern architecture. Modern architecture was the time of the Bauhaus and the Seagrams building when the first tall glass office buildings appeared.

  • Science is the opposite of art. Science deals with the way the world is, while art deals with the way the world is reineterpred in the human being's imagination. The two can coexist, but science always threatens to consume art. Because art deals with MEANING, while science reduces meaning to chemical processes within the brain.

  • @DrunkenPoetic HEY R U A ARCHITECTURE ENGINEER

  • I said the two can coexist.

  • STEPHEN CARL MURPHY

  • @DickKnowsBest Hm,I have just saw that you're only 17 years old,I don't see how can you know anything about colledge..and professors ..hm..

  • @DickKnowsBest Yeah,I'm about to enrolle colledge of architecture...and my exam is really hard,I have to do space compozition, and my mark depense on Profesor's personal opinion...shity and risky stuff.. Makes me wonder why I decided to do architecture... :(

  • I ll watch this again before my entrance exam into school of architecture

  • i agree. we should enjoy all architecture!

The past is beautiful and so can the modern time

  • stupendo

  • If novelty alone were the measure of good architecture, the Parthenon would fail. Today, novelty is practically the only reason a new building gets noticed. But gimmicks get tiresome and dated; simplicity and good proportions never do. Try telling that to a consumer society.

  • @bscottb8 you couldnt have said it better

  • Architecture leaves a lot to The imagination while an Engineer does do a lot of work in figuring out how everything comes together..

Do not try to disrespectfully downplay The role of The engineer..

  • Glass is not really the safest thing to have too much of....

Transparent plastic is safer as long as you can protect it from the fun...

  • @NinjaChampionKO Actually glass is a very strong and versatile material and has a lot of benefits. Do a google image search on "Skywalk" and youll see an example of glass used as a main building material. But umm... plastic?

  • i don't know nothing about architecture, but how do you call that type of design or technic thay they use to create houses with panoramic view?. Like in 2:35

  • The thinking that architecture is in state of disgrace is good: it means that we are thinking about what we are doing. But I believe that we arent in disgrace: we are in experimentation. Experimentation means do right or wrong, better or worst. We have a lot of examples that have suceed, and other that have failed;. Which suceeds do we have in our generation? Wich fails?

  • Engineers get no credit. That is the way it is! Engineers only help to create architecture. They do not get to design. All they need to do is solve problems they are given. I would say engineers are compairable to a calculator a usefull tool to have. Team Architect!

  • not necessarily, the line between engineering and art is starting to fade. We are seeing alot of engineers incorporate art into their designs.

  • civil engr's get messed up with your models! they done nothing but beautify!...it could not be beatiful if it could not stand rigidly

  • I WANT TO LIVE IN THE DEATH STARRRR hahahahahah

  • Architecture is in a state of crisis. No more beauty, only mostly chap glass and bent metal, disgraceful, sickening monstrosities.

  • CALATRAVA!!! THE GENIUS!!! :)

  • The old style buildings look better when they age, the 'modern' ones don't, it conflicts.

  • your comment contradicts itself, of course the modern ones, look the same, because they havent aged, the only reason why there is appreciation for the old ones is due to the new ones, so when theres even newer ones in the future, the modern ones now will look "aged"

  • love the imagination the architects have..

  • Contemporary architecture, imho... well, it sucks, to be short.

But different people, different tastes. ;)

  • What does 'God save the Queen' have to do with architecture? Very strange choice of music :s

  • Would you have a city full of the same building? no design, just built there to take space? im sorry, but thats boring. Im not one of those guys that says art is everything, becuase it most certinally is'nt. Making a building aesthetically appealing requires an artist's touch. to all guys, look at the curves of a woman, soft, beautiful, and flowing; architecture should be like that, its up to you engineers to make it possible through science. simply said, science and art are the same.

  • Beauty is found in how well the building functions. while engineering is very important and science bassed, one must consider how the building/bridge will look. its the artistic dreams of man that further science, not the other way around. dreams and art come before science, but science makes them real. You cannot have one without the other, they are united.

  • @MegaSuyan yes , united states of amreica....hahahahaha

    shape and function coexist !

  • @MegaSuyan While I agree with your arguement, there is one point that I do not agree with. It is not always the artistic dreams that further science, What of the invention of glass? No artist would have dreamed of the possibilities that this invention would give to us.

  • @Hysteriotype A great point! you're absolutly right my friend thank you for pointing that one out XD. i'll add on by saying that there have been many mistakes or accidents that have produced wonders for our civilization.

(hate to sound ignorant but... was the invention of glass a mistake?)

anyway, it was immediatly picked up as jewelry or pottery glaze by the sumerians and egyptians during the age 3000 B.C.

  • @MegaSuyan I'm not too sure either. I was thinking more of the architectural uses, such as the modernist movement, where glass and steel were probably one of the greatest influences upon the built environment today.

  • @Hysteriotype i see where your coming from, structurally yes steel has been the thing thats taken our contruction abilities to the sky (quite literally). as for glass, well, i should think that it would be cheaper to do walls of glass rather any other material.

but disregarding the cost effectity of that, people like the view (most of the time XD). and sunlight makes people happier and more productive workers. i mean, who wants to work in a prison, HS was a prison, didnt like it.

  • Now you see engineers make things like 50cm in beetwen a column and a wall. engineer makes everything formless. Architecture isn't (actually wasn't) about beauty. It's not an expression of someone. It's about the construction. It is how much material you need to use and how can you improve something with ''ornaments''. Don't comment something you lack knowledge of.

  • Archtietcture is about beauty. I can just imagine a bunch of architecture people at a gathering drinking a bunch of wine with cheese.

  • lol thats so ignorant.. art is actually equally important as science believe it or not. you're intelligence fails you..

  • This is contemporary architecture - there's a huge difference.

And by the way.. this is not even contemporary.. the examples chosen are just fiascos, complete rubbish.

You understand nothing about the subject "architecture".

  • well said

  • this isn't modern architecture.

  • NO????????

  • IS BEAUTIFUL MUSIC AND ARQUITECTURE TOO!!! iS loveLY||

  • Comment removed

  • which song is????

  • the music is Zodok the Priest by Handel. It is played at the coronation of Kings and Queens of England. I wish i knew what the recording of it is. It is one of the best as the tempo is not rushed as is it is with most recordings of the piece.

  • this is not modern architecture. modernism emerged in the early 20th century and has since become less common. "contemporary" would be a better word to define the movie. its hard to categorise the present day international style though.

  • Hi could you tell me what is the name of the music ou used for this montage, i like it very much!

    thanks a lot

  • wonderful!!!

  • No it's not 'wonderfull' it's just "put some weird unnatural shapes in there or make the whole just plain 'weird' and you've got a b+ for your exam" kinda thing. It's the same thing over and over and over again and it's really easy too. I could do it.

  • im hopefully going to be taking this course next year at uni :D

im putting my art skills towards my future ^^,

  • Because of my love for art, I love architecture. i was meant to be one.

  • Quite lovely.. beautiful.

  • i like most modern architecture. Because they are all very individual for the most part and each one is a work of art. Well most modern architecture,

  • I'm sorry i meant architecture

  • I really really hate the modern arquitecture like in australia...

  • ..i love buildings like such... but i dont like drafting... hehehe

  • I always admired architecture. Once I was proud a cousin of mine was going to be an architecture; however, he then change of concentration. I felt inside sad, as I always had a love for mathematics, architecture, science and art. It was like he was going to do a part of my dreams; however, as he changed of concentration, I always looked forward to it; thought I am already studying physics, philosophy, and pre-medic already. Yes, is hard to do three bachelor, but damn I want four! XD

    Nice video.

  • I am doing three degrees, and it's to do work in more than one thing. To help in medicine, philosophy, and physics. Unlike you, that think everyone has to do one. People can do one, two, three, or four, and is their choice. Moreover, Bill Gates has like three as well, and others as well.

  • lol death star at 1:07

  • where is here architect - design - i am speekless !

  • some buildings look like plants

    like 3:33

    or 3:35

  • What's the building at 2.43 ?????

  • 4:20 they are building that in Vejle, Denmark now

  • love the arch. but whats the name of the song?

  • 2:24 is in istanbul

  • Brilliant !! i was thinking of this as a career but this proves im not that creative :/ lol

  • Being an architect takes more than your creativity only...

First you need to know the acient architecture studies, the meassures, The fit with the Sun and the Environment, Anatomy of the Building, stabillity..

Everything whatever it takes to be an architect..

  • All these ideas have been influenced from many things, its how you percieve objects and elements. And then intergrate them in to an architectual wonder.

You are creative! Put your mind to it [=

  • SEE (palacio de congresos Alicante) is great!

  • do architect get paid well...god damn do they deserve it

  • @pawpawnorth Some do XD through all the exams adn college work you still have a period where you do the menial jobs (like everybody else) and it could be awhile before you can make a name for yourself. But, there is the possiblity that if your just that dam good, you can make a very nice living in a shorter amount of time. the key would be to have more to offer than just the regular arch graduate.

  • @MegaSuyan thanks im only 13 and i dont really know a lot

  • @pawpawnorth :) Doesn't matter! become a prodigy child and make millions!!!

btw, im only 18 and start arach college in august.

  • @MegaSuyan dude thx ur super helpful, u know any good arch colleges in the US

  • @pawpawnorth hmm.....i've only looked in texas becuase i get instate tuition there. However before i list off colleges you should consider what you want from architecture. Universities like Tex A&M or Austin have very Mathmatical based arch programs. while the Universities of Rice and UT San Antonio have very creative based programs. Rice is HARD to get into and to even apply to the arch program you need to have (i think, cant remember) a 15-20 project portfolio. San Antonio is easier.

  • @pawpawnorth I would also like to say that choosing a Colleg to go to is sooooo much more than just choosing the program; you need to be happy where you go. It's a sad thing now that people forgo things that would make them happier in order to advance themselves more. Is it worth it? - only the person makeing that choice can answer that. Being at a place that makes you happier or more comfortable will make you a better, more dedicated, more studiouse student and a better person.

  • @pawpawnorth while you are only 13 you have alot of time to get ready for these choices. However, getting on projects now and also learning to draw/sketch will make you a sought after candidate. so get to work XD you have 5 years to become a prodigy.

DO NOT STEAL OTHERS WORK! - this will end you before you have a chance to begin. :) be creative and use inspiration.

  • GOD SAVE ARCHITECTURE! love it!

  • Her is the type I'm desinging right now!

Architecture is so creative and wonderful to look at!

  • It´s so Wonderful!!!!

    Congratulations!

    PATY `-D)

  • Lets hope these remain on the drawing board and never see the light of day.

  • Almost all these are post modern and beyond. Modern is a theory relating to an object taking a simple geometric form with an overall minimalist attitude.

  • this shit is fucking good

  • What is modern? After the test of time has proven its worthiness, then does it becomes traditional?

  • modern architecture is glass and stainless steel combination and the forming them into art that's both economical and an eye candy

  • Eye candy is the key phrase. It has no nutritional value.

  • nutritional value? i guess we should let engineers desing functional buildings instead. and "lets hope you are not an architect or you never see the light of day."

  • first modern architecture is cement and it's not combination at all...

  • Trash.

  • Does any of the building relate to golden ratio?

  • 3:15 - those buildings at MIT by Gehry. Am I the only one that seems to like them? My fellow architecture students at my school don't agree with me. I can see Gehry's concept. Half of the buldings are static, but almost done in a satirical way in response to static compositions. The other half of the buildings are dynamic. They also compliment the "static" half by using the same windows, but extruded outwards. Does anyone understand me and why this buidling is great?

  • I heard a long conversation with Gehry (with mario Batali of all people) and Gehry said 3 things that stuck: 1, He desinged from inside out (not the other way around), 2, the reason his buildings look like they do is that he needed a material that could be both roof and walls and only his curved metal could do that and finally, (3) he thought of himself as a "Conservative" (not vanguard) architect.

  • Wow so modern...

Even Hong Kong have glowing buildings, flashing lights, amazing light shows, and better technology than most of these.

The Hong Kong's Symphony Of Lights, a computer controls most of the lights shows.

We need more like Hong Kong's amazing lightning buildings beside amazing funky building looks. No matter how nice it looks, it still needs flashing, or glowing lights.

    Now THOSE are called Modern.

  • Lots of these seem impractical. Pretty though...
