Interesting that Fox is the main outlet (mis)reporting this story. It has nothing to do with the "endangered" species of woods, only to do with Gibson's doing business with the military coup that overthrew the Malagasy government in 2009.
My concern is the manner that the agents came into the work place with weapons ready to fire. Flammable liquids all around in large tanks, high pressure tanks, machinery with sharp blades. Add one pull of the trigger, and what could happen? Where all the OSHA safety regulations broken? Maybe Fender,or Taylor could be next.Maybe a rally in D.C. ,July 4,2012,with your Gibson guitar, would put a stop to this waste of man power, and tax dollars, and court time. Les Paul, and Chet Atkins Forever.
An armed raid, which will result in the loss of American jobs is an outrage. This at best should have been a court case, not a raid. It's all based on murky foreign laws. This stinks of selective enforcement. The bigger this story gets, the better.
@RagingTic As more info comes out it appears that Gibson are in violation. They have unsealed the warrant and it appears that Gibson imported the wood as "veneer" which it is not.
It's all about "interpretation" of Indian law... Nothing to do with Obama; in fact GBW was the last to sign an amendment to the act in 2008, the DOJ is just slow (and really stupid) to enforce the changes.
@dpsp39 Funny that the government didn't "interpret" it that way for the number of other guitar and furniture companies that use the same wood. Still no raids on them. Why not? Gibson is a big Republican donor and they refuse to unionize. Dem's stroke the balls of the unions for their money. It is a political hit job.
it's not about illegal wood. it's about american manufacturing jobs. they're growing in a bad economy in the face of nafta. india said they had no problems with gibson or what they were doing with the legal wood they were buying.
Wow, what a lying bitch. Do your homework!! NEITHER of those species of wood are on any endangered list!!! Check with the WWF (World Wildlife Federation). This is just sad, to see America has fallen so far...
@floatingcompassmedia Check out the Alexander Amendment to the Lacey Act, drafted by Andrew Lamar Alexander (born July 3, 1940) who is the senior United States Senator from Tennessee and Conference Chair of the Republican Party.
Do research before forming an opinion and selling it as fact:
The Bush Administration brought this update to the Lacey Act into law.
Lacey Act was brought into law in the year 1900. The Lacey Act was most recently amended as of May 22, 2008 (under the Bush Administration), when the Food, Conservation, and Energy Act of 2008 expanded its protection to a broader range of plants and plant products (Section 8204. Prevention of Illegal Logging Practices).[4].
@roundaboutwrongway I am sorry, I sometimes can't tell the difference between Bush and Obama. I guess Obama has nothing to do with this, he seems to have nothing to do with anything. But, It is strange just how America is more unpopular than ever, I mean whats with all the storm troopers "Green Warriors" and TSA. Under Obama's government those working at Gibson were treated like shit, and I'm aware of the legal history...it's about control.
This is your opinion and I respect others opinions. It is not fact though and objectively assessing facts is much more helpful than emotional decisions; guess that's my opinion.
