@neperud4k A deaf person maybe? You know, this song is just so F&#$ing deep.......how the hell, unless a person has actually lived this song, could they even THINK of lyrics like these??? I don't know much about Townes life, but don't think he was ever THAT destitute. (was he)? I wonder if this was some story he heard from some poor old man, that he then turned into a song? It's just so sad & deep. Townes was under-rate/recognized as a lyricist. He was a MASTER lyricist.
Im not even married but the thought of waking up one day and going to sleep that night alone, knowing my bed will always be empty of "her" , My heart goes out to you's and wish you bucket loads of strength
i've never been remotely offended by a dislike on youtube. i seriously dont care. but the fact that there's a dislike on this song genuinely saddens me.
I'm currently in a Substance Abuse / PTSD program given through the VA Hospital and this song touches me Deeply. I'm a homeless VET whose trying to rebuild his life. I Love Townes .... GOD Rest His Soul
This song has three of the pound-for-pound saddest lyrics ever: "Maybe me and Marie could find a burned-out van/ and do a little settlin' down," "In my heart I know it's a little boy,/ I hope he don't end up like me," and "She just rolled over and went to heaven/ my little boy safe inside." Nobody captured despair as well as TVZ--it's beautiful and tragic at the same time.
My wife name was Marie Townes. She died July 8, 2010. I just discovered this song and it breaks my heart. But I also find solace in it. I will move on... I Love You Marie! always
This is a masterpiece, no doubt.

Saddest song I know. I was playing it as I drove across country in my RV. Got to crying so bad I had to pull over and stop. Damn sad.
