  • Love Jon's eyes at the end...too much - er - herbal tea perhaps

    ..!!

  • If you have not gpot Going For The One, get it! A great album by Yes, IMO one of the best two along with Close To The Edge.

  • Who says you shouldn't watch sausage being made? I love this kind of stuff

  • Yes, A Celebration 1969-1979 2DVD set available at Tommygun Video, please see our Youtube channel for link, video clips and more info

  • interesting to hear how Steve H developed the guitar part - what a guitarist - but largely unknown outside Yes circles ie; the man in the street...shame... Chris Squire should have written more songs IMO if he was capable of this brilliance..

  • It's great that now we can actually see how they got all that together. Like Chris Squire's backing vocals - I always loved that about Yes, but with studio footage one can see how those parts are constructed.

I read that the actual church organ part of this song was recorded using phone line. NOT 'over the phone', mind you, but using the phone cables to hook up the equipment, since the Swiss phone system was actually state of the art stuff... and it was all recorded in Switzerland.

  • Where the hell did this footage come from??? Didn't know this sort of thing existed. This is my favourite Yes track and to see where it all came from is fantastic. Love it. Thanks for posting

  • Fantastic stuff. Great behind the scenes footage. Love it

  • Is it possible ? Dream Theater were playing in 1977 ?? Er no, it's Yes of course ! Howe is shredding like an animal... amazing...

  • 'Going for the one' is the best YES ALBUM !

  • Fuck you Steve Howe!!! I will never as good as you!! :( snif snif

  • i think this has got to be my best find. thanks much for the great gift....love it...

  • @LHHig and @artrock101

It is Jon Anderson here who IS playing a Rickenbacker, 6 string that is.... so artrock is right.

Squire, famous for his Ric bass playing is playing a Fender jazzbass on this recording....

cheers people and enjoy this celestial music.

  • Hey artrock1, John Lennon didn't play bass. Paul McCartney did.

  • @alhughes54, oh cool is that Chris's brother, awesome. Is he a keyboard player 2 does he rock out too.

  • @jcmclovin c'mon my man or woman you know I meant chris Wakeman, he was so great, journey to the centre. To me personally he was the no1, ace, f'n keyboard player in art rock EVER! and I know you agree with me, a wizard with yes nothing could've been of better. Yes forever! Benoit David seems like a nice man, but take a hike JON, JON, JON!

  • @nat00ben06 Try RICK Wakeman

  • wow. at 5:09 Steve Howe plays into the rest. It's cool to see that even these gods of music make mistakes.

which makes me think how awesome it would be to have a video from even earlier in the process, when they still work out ideas. How often do they stop? How do they learn their parts as first composed? do they ever turn down an idea?

Anyway, Parallels is one of the greatest songs created, ever. And Yes is the greatest band. Ever.

  • ummm hmmmm . . . .Steve is the all time monster

  • Somehow this sound id cleaner and sweeter than the released versions . . . how did that happen?

  • What guitar is playing Jon Anderson?

  • It's a Rickenbacker, similar to the one John Lennon used to play.

  • this stuff is Jesus

  • was just hanging with my buddy today and he had some stories to tell as he was their chief sound engineer back in the day. i was like, yeah right!

sure enough he pulls out a bunch of old pics of him with them together. lucky mf

  • Yes with this lineup and Bruford/White Anderson,Howe,Squire,Wakeford they were really a badass band. Steve Howe was such a creative and excellent guitarist. I heard Yes,Genesis,Floyd,Zep and a few other bands was the reason Punk came into being.

  • Wakeford?

  • Pretty Bad...Too Bad...

  • I love Chris Squire¡¡¡¡

  • what freakin' talent! steve howe is one of the best guitarists around!

  • Chris Squire rocks!

  • hee hee..white screws up at the start!!

  • nice black rickenbacker...love this band!!longtime fan.

  • Oh--in 1:52--yes, maybe so.

  • Besides the Hammond and the minimoog, what keyboards are Rick playing here?

  • The keyboard in 1:52 seems to be some Clavinet, can't tell the exact model though.

  • I thought that was the Hammond.

  • D6. Not original volume knob, thoiugh.

  • Is this Wakeman? I thought Patrick Moraz was in the band by this album?

  • defo wakeman..Moraz only lasted the one album..burn'dout, bless him

  • I believe Moraz only played on 'Relayer'. Wakeman was back for 'Going for the One'.

  • In Nov. '76, Moraz was let go by the band and Rick was asked to come back for Going for the One.

  • Not a Hammond! Mander Pipe Organ. Plus RMI KC1, Birotrons, Mellotron Mk.V. Grand Piano, RMI 368X. plus the Moogs, of course. Rhodes Stage 88. There is a C3 in the rig although not played on this footage which, I believe, was shot by Nigel Luby...

  • fucking sweet! steve rips at 3:37

  • Awsome piece of musical history

  • this is a fabulous song to enjoy drugs with...pure genius

  • do you think I would watch a video of Brittney in the studio working on a song for the who 20 minutes it probably took... lol.

  • That's a great way of looking at it!

  • @wakclips There's more music in one Steve Howe chord than the entire Britney Spears catalogue !

  • I find it fascinating to watch the evolution of a great piece of music. Sure, it sound rough, but it was polished up to be superb. Who does stuff like this now? Who can do stuff like this?

  • I think this kicks ass. I love this recording.

  • Yes began to fall apart when they adopted a different writing formula. The best songs were led by Jon Andnerson's vocal melodies. Now they just write with creating mostly riffs first.

  • HEY CityYoungGuns - you and your fucken bandmates are rookies - When you and your looser friends have 40 years of global rock history then you can have a comment..................fuck off.

  • This is like a Religion !!!

    Don CarloZZa

  • Rockin out like only Howe can!

  • Squire was so awesome

  • he still is!

  • YES, lo mejor. Porque no han tocado asi, improvisando en vivo?

  • I was a keyboardist in a band in the eighties and if I dared to do anything beyond holding a note or chord down, I'd get "Shut it Rick Wakeman". That man killed keyboard innovation for twenty years.

  • It was the idiots who said "shut it Rick Wakeman" who killed the innovation, not Rick Wakeman. What a bizarre comment.

  • I think the 'Six Wives of Henry VIII' was not what any self respecting rock band wanted to ever play. Did you see the BBC 4 docu on prog rock? ELP should be put on trial and shot for crimes against music.

  • There are people that have damaged music more than ELP did...and by the way they were real musicians unlike most (90%) pop "artists"

  • Ditto

& THANK YOU FOR YOUR WISDOM & TRUTH.

    GOOD DAY.

    WC

  • Um I think he was not referring to rick, but the guy who said shut it.

  • this is SO interesting. thank you

  • i think all this and other raw studio sessions highlight the incredible skill these guys had in their prime, and beyond. They electricity running through all of them is absolutely phenomenal, not like the music of the present day.

  • こりゃすごいわ

    よくこんな映像が・・・

  • how can you write such a horrible thing about Yes? I won't stand for such disrespect. lol

  • genius and wonderful group..

    kisses from france..

  • WHATS THE FIRST SONG CALLED???

    please tell me

  • That would be "Parallels" from the tremendous album "Going for the One"!

  • wakeman is the keyboardist?

  • I like the guitar tone

  • Excuse me...35 years ago!!! Forgot, I'm 47 (damn:(

  • Yes! Thanks YesMan. Imagine a 12 year old kid playing Yessongs over and over again! That was 25 years ago! I wish we had computers, the internet and YOUTUBE then. I love watching how these guys actually pieced together many of their songs.

  • Oh yeah, we had to follow Yes the hard way. I had some bootlegs such as live Tales from Madison Sq. Garden 1973!

  • It's amazing how from a rehearsed piece it comes together so brilliantly on the final cut. They have the whole finished song in their heads. What insight. I wished they'd shown more of Jon's vocal input though. By the way, thanks YesMan for posting this, you've got a year on me, but we're from the same school of great rock. Remember UFO? The last time in saw Yes was on Jone's Beach Amphitheater on Long Island about 8 years ago. They were great.

  • Glad you like it,

I was at the Jones Beach show also, that was with Billy Sherwood I believe, "Open your Eyes" Tour

  • It's a small world, especially when you live in this neck of the woods. I would imagined you'd be a Giant fan. They got the shit kicked out of them by Cleveland. I'm not worried though. Manning had a bad night. Wasn't it Wakeman who was playing that night?

  • I love the last song on this CD. It ends beautifully. It reminds me of days my girlfriend and I (now my wife) would drive through the wintery mountains of upstate NY on our way to a trip to Montreal. Ah..the memories. They don't make bands like this anymore. This CD some of the most awe inspiring and spiritual songs you'll ever hear. Get it, you won't regret it!

  • what album is this song of?

  • THe great LP, "Going for the One" highly recommended!!

  • thanx dude i dont have that one, ill b sure to grab it asap, im going to c them live but without jon anderson.

  • I'll be going too Asbury Pk., NJ Nov 15th. It will be OK without Jon as they will play some Drams songs he would never sing!

  • i have a very important questio that has been bugging me for some time. does rick put all of his keyboards in th P.A or does he have amps for all of them? your answers will be greatful.

  • Thanks do much this is a wonderful testament to YouTube and of course "Yes"!

  • Thank you, my pleasure, wish I had time to post more, maybe soon!

  • Cris, Steve and Rick, the Monsters of Art Rock...

  • I just don't know about Steve Howe.

If I wasn't use to his playing, I'd say there's some total lost beginner jamming along.

  • Do you just think he comes up with guitar parts like that? This is a rehearsal. It's meant to be practiced and made better for the final album. I think it's pretty good for being improvised on the spot.

  • Chris is such a KILLER BASS PLAYER!

  • I keep forgetting about this song and then I hear it again and it's like hearing it for the first time. So beautiful, even without that bitchin' pipe organ.

  • THE MASTERS AT WORK...

    COOL!

  • yo, whos the keys here- wakeman?

  • Yeah, Rick

  • Didn't they start the sessions with Moraz who was fired to be replaced by Wakeman (who is featured here)?

  • Yes they did, I forgot about that...

  • I wasn't quite sure, thanx! Anyway, I appreciate Moraz' work on "Relayer". But that's another story ;-)

  • On the remastered version of Tormato, Patrick is on the early demo of Does It Really Happen.

  • wow there's a modulating part starting at 5.26 that didn't make the final version. I love this song.

  • SEY YES EYES SEE YEE YES....

When we were teenagers I wrote this in stone atop the Sears Tower in Philly ( the one that was imploded.)

  • Interesting to hear this before any of the final parts went down like the Swiss pipe organ. i like the fullness of alan's kick and snare.

  • did you see the 16 in hi hats?

  • fuck, i missed the 16th! lol

  • Seeing Yes in work!

Even though this isn't actually the lead guitar part of the song, it's improvised so damn well!

    Damn...

I always loved the bass to this song!

  • Steve Howe is one great lead guitar player. His style rocks something fierce, thank God he's still around, and the rest of the band (I guess they didn't mess up with the drugs, huh) so we can still see them.

  • Howe is known for being a vegetarian introduced to it by their 70's producer Eddie Offord.

  • These aren't rehearsals - they're tracking the album in studio - WOW! This is amazing! Does this exist for other albums - like Close to the Edge! Very Cool!

  • Thank you. This video is much better than the one I have, and that is in You tube also. Please post the Anderson - Wakeman rehersals at the Church Organ & Awaken

  • what a treat! i needed that! thanks

  • Thanks Yes Man 46. I think I have a copy of about an hours studio sessions from GFTO on video. I think this was on it.

  • Yes, I have that video too, I converted it to MP4 and will be adding more as time goes on.
