He is using a skill called Starving wolf+1 which only activates with 25 stamina.
It gives +50% affinity and evade+1, and if you add in RA+3 you get 80% affinity on this 0 affinity weapon.
The lance has 575 Raw and 490 Water and purple sharp with Artisian; this is pretty much the best lance for Orange Espinas. If you don't know what SW is, then you probably haven't played this game, and you probably shouldn't say that he looks noobish fighting a monster that you have never killed.
