Anyways, Robotech was one of the very first to have mecha, especially robot type which contained a pilot and had a humanoid form (but they also changed into fighter jets and other things. Point is though, I think that had Macross/Robotech not come out as and when it did, we would have had a much longer wait for many of the great anime series that we've had in the last 25 years or so.

Kidou Butouden G Gundam... Why can't people understand that it is nothing like the other Gundam series? The Gundam franchise started as Real Robot Anime, and has continued like that every since, with the exception that is G Gundam, which was more of a Super Robot Anime. It isn't a show you can just watch. You can only enjoy it, or you can not enjoy it, but still watch it because it's awesome (it's Gundam, duh...).
