When I was in a HH3F went down in SE Alaska. It made a emergency landing in a deserted area a few miles from a village. When the msg. was passed that a aircraft had gone down all the airsta apprared to be hushed until word was passed that the crew was safe and unharmed.
I don't think most of us realize that there has to be a lot of practicing in dangerous conditions to be prepared for the "real deal". The lives lost during practices are in service to us all. God be with those who lost loved ones in the service to others. Thank you all brave men and women of the US Coast Guard.
@Sumiland it doesnt help that the coast guard is so UNDERfunded that their helicopters spend more time in the maintenance hangar then in the air. The coast guard gets less .01% of the nation's annual defense budget.
Man, I went at Oahu for vacations in the second week of august and I remember when I was at the beach I saw the Coast guard helicopter that passed right over our head, man, it was so close to the ground !!!!
I think they were searching a shark around !
And now, I hear that it's maybe the guys I saw in the helicopter who died...HOLY SH**
20031200 What year was that?
I was on 2 H3's that went down, both out of Sitka. Also went down on one out of Annette Is.
