In his book "In Parenthesis" - an account of his time in the Somme from December 1915 to July 1916 - David Jones tells of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers singing this hymn as they counted down the final few moments waiting to go over the top at Mametz Wood.. The RWF lost over a thousand men there.
One of my favourite hymns of all time and sung so beautifully by Aled. What a wonderful and rich voice!! I was fortunate enough to see him in concert just last week in Newcastle (NSW) and I was thrilled to meet him afterwards. A truly lovely man who is courteous and welcoming to all he meets. The world really needs more people like this man who has the voice of an angel and a divine gift for music. God bless you for sharing this miracle with all of us.
Wow, he is so good looking and love that he is still singing. Still has that beautiful tone. Great to see him still singing and back at it at 39!!!! Way to go Aled....please keep singing.
I am English but i have a piece of Wales in my heart everytime i visit i do feel a belonging (and sad when i leave), to a great nation especially when it comes to singing, A piece from J Parry which i may have thought related thru my mother, nevermind. The voice of Aled Jones does this song justice a lovely bit of music when i hear it i imaging flying thru the passages of Snowdonia like a bird.
I adore this song. It's especially moving when he moves into the Welsh. I wish I could see the sceenery. I'm sure it's astounding. Songs of Praise does a wonderful job, and it's too bad people in the States can't watch it unless it's on You Tube. Thanks for sharing.
Hi cristinaandastoria, I cant remember if I put the whole or this particular programme up, but please take a look at my other channel AledSoP it contains quite a few complete Songs of Praise programmes.

I wish he'd do more songs like this. I like the ones when he's singing in the churches, but I think when he walks around different places adds something to the whole thing.

I ran into Aled at Mardi Gras last year. He was flashing his titties for some real nice beads.

The cross of Christ is the heart and soul of the Gospel.
Other refuge have I none
Hangs my helpless soul on thee
These beautiful words prompt us to trust Him

So Beautiful. He is like a great wine, better each day. The older he gets, the better he sounds. Such richness and depth to his voice.
Thanks T
