..between being the raw, street smart Tawaef and being a loving/supporting woman who just wants to be with her man above all. Her face expressions when her character meets Amir for the last time before he´s going to be hanged and he´s filling her "maang" with "sindoor". Her way of speaking and hitting the man who lifts up her skirt when he´s selling her in the town. She was just so credible in that role, she became Heera.

Sorry for the long comments but I couldn´t make my analysis short lolz!

@Khwaab I loved your analysis. I know exactly what you mean by this feeling the rythmn and becoming the dance. I'm not sure if you dance as well.I was going to carry on about how can identify with exactly what you said about the dancig aspect from a personal point of view, but I will keep it about the actresses. they are my favourite two, same order - exactly the same reasons. Rani is a superb actress - the way she delivers her dialogue esp. if it emotionally charged is out of this world.

Thank you my dear! I didn´t think anyone would agree but there we go....at last someone who understands what I mean. No, ha ha.....I´m, what ppl would call an inside dancer. Andar se naachti rehti houn, baahar nahin nikal sakti ;). My family´s convinced I´m a natural born dancer but I´ve never danced publicly other than like twice in my whole life in front of just the female relatives. So I can´t really agree with my family because I know real dance is very difficult and....

..and takes like a zillion years of continuous training to learn. And a lot of dilli lagan and hard work. Dance to me though, is very much a spiritual experience and expression...not a physical routine. Even though it´s a wonderful form of execise.

..thought that any person working in Bollywood, can´t possibly know acting. This is because of the sillyness in it and how they degrade women routinely. But then, a friend of mine insisted that I watch The Rising and Lagaan. And I don´t care where talent comes from but when it´s good, one should be honest and acknowledge it.

Anyway, my point is...Amir acted insanely well but Rani...she really blew me away! I realised that she, besides dancing, also can act. She shifted so well between...

..when she moves...her personality and pride comes through. It´s like she cannot get over how beautiful all of India thinks she is. So her feelings, her pride of herself takes over. This is at least what I see. I might be wrong and I might dislike her too much to be able to see her talent clearly. But honestly, she´s skilled but it just doesn´t reach me.

I don´t watch Indian commercial movies but I love the art movies. I wish they made more of them. I´m also one of those ppl who thought...

..because I think they´re not "feeling it" themselves. They´re just professionally doing a "1,2.3, up..4,5,6 down" routine and not dancing with their soul. Michael once spoke about this and said he never counts when he´s dancing, it just sort of comes to him, he BECOMES the drum beat, the guitar strike etc.

I´m not going to mention any names but there´s one actress in particular who comes to my mind. She has what ppl call beauty nowadays, she has dancing skills but when....

..in crazy amounts and she almost pops out of the screen! Rani is the only one after her, according to ME, who when she dances has that certain aura, fire about her. It´s like she´s doing it effortlessly.

There are so many actresses in Bolly who might look better than Rani to some ppl but when they dance, despite training...something is lacking. The handgestures are there, the thumkas, the jhatkas but...not that "through the screen" quality. They don´t make us "feel it"...

I don´t care if a person is likable or not...sheer talent speaks itself. Madhuri has always been among my all time faves but Rani....I don´t know much about her but if someone has both acting skills and dancing, it´s Rani.

So many actresses in Bolly dance, with skill and all, but they lack that "Andar ki aag" jo sarr charrh kar bolti hai. I think anyone can learn to dance but that special "fire", that "feel" is something that perhaps can´t be taught or learned! Madhuri has that in crazy....

excellent combination, all the dance scenes where choosen in such a way that it fits the song. i love them both, they are great artist. Madhuri, Kajol, Rani and Pretty Zinta are my favourite actresses.
