hi, really big thanks to what you're doing, i just wanted to ask something, i dont have severe acne, but i do have it and it wont go away, i'm 16. i was talking to my dermatologist about the side effects of accutane, she mentioned that i cannot eat fatty foods, cause if i do, the accutane will make the fat go into the blood, which increases the cholesterol and what not, just wanted to ask to see if you know anything regarding this, i'll probably start accutane soon, thanks again :)
@samuelxiberras hmm.... not really, I'm a generally healthy eater though so that was never a factor. Fatty foods, unless it's healthy fat (avocados for example) can increase acne breakouts. I don't know anything about accutane raising cholesterol but eating really unhealthy fatty foods can be counterproductive if you want to clear up your skin, and feel all around better. Hope this was helpful!
what helped me through the horrendous initial breakout which lasted 2 months was what my doctor told me before I took my first pill- "if you get a breakout dont worry that means accutane IS working"
@fvresonanator sorry about the extremely late response! But yes, my skin did improve after the treatment because I wasn't breaking out anymore. My red marks eventually faded away, and as there were no new initial breakouts it just kept looking better. :)
acne is a fucking bastard! i had it for 6 year and couldn't even look people in the eye, nd every time a skin advert came on the t.v i was like, fuck you, your face aint bad!
i went on rccutane and my face cleared up! thank god... nd i didn't go bald my face didn't go bright red nd i felt just the same. all of the stuff on the internet scares you into thinking your going to loose your hair or some shit! that's not the case! HONESTLY!!! :)
do you think what you eat drink makes your skin more beautiful or influance the accutane because i eat alot chocolat and i am afraid//..... that it will influance the medicine
@singerlisa12 For me, the foods I have eaten have never really affected my acne. It's always been a hormonal problem. And I'm pretty sure it's a myth that chocolate causes acne, so I wouldn't worry too much. ;)
@singerlisa12 when i was on the tablets i pretty much went to mcdonalds all the time and i eat junk food all the time too. the tablets worked on me and i've been off them for 2 year and they havn't come back nd i stil eat unhealthy food the food you eat doesn't effect your skin in anyway, that's a myth! :) if you have any questions i would happly answer them for you? :)
@MrDiddy527 Well I think you still need to eat healthy to keep or get your skin clear but I think the tablets work just because it stops your skin for producing so much oil.It dries the pimples out and if your skin is dry bacteria can't really live there.I think that most people have a good balance of oil in their skin already and it only gets outta whack when your hormones get out of whack due to hormones in food and putting oily creams on it would clog your pores too.All that mcdonalds will
@Taja548 i was on the tablets about 3 year ago now! nd as far as unhealthy goes, i work in a sports centre and i'm on the boxing academy. eating mcdonalds is to keep me at middleweight and i have fitness tests all the time and i'm fit and healthy. but thank you for your comment.
i eat at least 3 mcdonalds a week nd it's a fact as long as you eat other foods and exercise it wont harm you! if anything it gives you more of a healthy looking build.
@Taja548 personally i think food has nothing to do with your skin at all! i see lots of fat/big people who eat mcdonalds every day come in the gym and they have perfect skin... nd my acne will not "catch up to me" i had my round with acne, it's over thanx to the tablets, i had spots on my face that were there for ages nd once i was on the tablets they went straight away! i wasnt really getting spots it was just the ones i had chose to stay on my face for ages.
@singerlisa12 Hi! The food-skin connection is under a lot of debate and research. The chocolate thing is a bit of a myth. Foods that can cause acne are: DAIRY (definitely), iodine (found in most commercial salt and salty foods), and high glycemic load meals (large, sugary meals). Foods that can help acne are anti-inflammatory foods (omega-3s, in fish, etc.), foods that contain zinc (red meat, lentils, etc.). Message me if you'd like more skin tips :) I can help as best as I can!
@subarianEra At first she tried to put me on antibiotics and ointments, and then once I did the blood tests for accutane I went right on it, So it was pretty fast.
heyy! i am about to go on accutane in less than a month! and i just wanted to know a little bit more about those pounds you lost! how many did you loose? is it like safe to loose them? thanks :)
@shilparulz Hey, I only lost 5 pounds, it was nothing drastic, just something I noticed so I wouldn't factor it in to your use of accutane too much. Good Luck, and I hope you have great results. :)
@rae629 It really depends on your dermatologist. Some derms like you to try other things and use accutane as a last resort if your acne doesn't get better while others will just let you go on it right away, especially if you've already tried other stuff and it's pretty severe. I paid around $40 a month, but that was with insurance so it fluctuates depending on your health plan.
@PetaPinkGirl Nope. I was way too paranoid to drink! It's highly recommended you don't drink because your liver is already taking a toll with medication. At least it's only 6 months though! :)
I'm so fuckin scared to go on accutane cuz of the side effects. My acne is well not that bad but it bothers me like hell. I have a girlfriend who I really really love and I just so scared cuz everyone says it's get much worse before it gets better, and I don't know how I or she will handle that in that time period, I just don't know what to do
@lolalover finally someone wants to that actually gives me information about this!

Ive been on it a week. and I just lost the girl that I basically loved for 2 years because of it. Ive been away 3 months, she waited for me, i came back started accutane and in a pretty important part of our relationship she invited me to do a day long roadtrip. I said I was sick and would later, and everything...and well, now ive fucked it up, she said i should die of watever disease i got. Iam stupid, but now i feel better saying this...haha.
your sun story is the same as mine aha! Its in my video and i have a huge scab on my nose. Super weird. Your skin looks great btw. I hope mine will turn out good.
I just got off of Accutane. I was on it for 7 months. I feel like a completely new person. Although there is still SOME redness as it has only been a week. How long does it take for the redness to subside?
hi.. i have finished my accutane course 3 months ago. and im really satisfied as it cleared up all the pimples and breakouts.. but i still do have red marks and scarring from the acne. will tht clear up? or i need to use someting fr tht. pls let me know
Do you know what month your acne got to be really bad? My gradutation is coming up in about 2 months...so i don't know if I should start now or start at the beginning of summer....any advice? :S
@bluedevil670 If you have your graduation in 2 months I would wait til Summer starts. The 2 month mark was when it got worse before it got better for me.
What month did your acne become really bad? :S I have my gradutation in like 2 months....and I don't know if I should start right now...after when summer begins?! Any advice?!!!
Acne is strange thing...i took Accutane when was 15, after struggling with acne 4few yrs and bieng too scared 2 try accutane. It got me cleared up, then 9yrs later I had crzy beakouts that didnt go away and got put back on Accutane
[clarivas]. Was lot diff being 24 w/bad acne then 15
I want to say thank you for taking time out of your life to make this video for everyone.

The people on here should have some manners in regards to what happened to Ericka =/
3rd
Did you mean Aquaphor Healing Ointment? I can't find it anywhere but I live in Texas....Pfft! I could order through Amazon but maybe that's not the right product? Just checking
4th
What type of drinks were you avoiding? I am doing research & have found I need to avoid some like sodas, grape, and orange juice.
Thank you. I watched people's video on there accutane experience when I was on it and it helped a lot. Yes, I meant Aquaphor healing ointment. They should have it at Target, or any pharmacy. I don't drink soda, so mostly I just drank water, juices and soy/almond milk. Juices don't make me break out but it may be different for you. Good Luck!
My doctor is going to put me on accutane its going to be either 10mg twice a day or 30mg once a day, do you think i will have any of the side effects you had?
I just got finished in December with my six month course of Accutane. I took 40 mgs. twice a day. Total of 80 mgs a day. I weigh 145 pounds. I'm so happy with the results. I was so scared to take it cus of all the scary stuff people tried to tell me. It never got really bad when I began taking it. I was amazed how it got rid of blackheads, for good!
I go on accutane in a less than a month and I can't wait... I hope it is a success... I have had acne for way too long, its painful, and extremely embarrassing. Thanks for the video, very good info!
you have such beautiful skin. i am going on accutane in 2 weeks and dream about the day my skin will looks like yours. thanks so much for posting this.
Thank u soo much for all the advice! I still have to do alot of thinking but I will definitely keep u in mind! Congrats on ur accomplishment and I hope to be at that level soon!
So i'm kinda scared that the pimples might leave scars. Anyways, I wanted to ask you if there was any other side affects other than the little depression you went thru after you stopped. How long did you go on it for the first time? Any permanent side affects? Is it ok to wear makeup while taking accutane?
Not really, just the dryness. The first time I went on it, it was for 6 months, and it stayed clear for a good couple of years. It did come back but not as bad as before. My acne hurt and was really annoying though, so I decided to go on it again and now it's gone completely. Yes, it's fine to wear make up. While on the accutane, it just might be a little flaky, so make sure to have a strong moisturizer.
I'm really really hesitated about taking it; reading some scary stuff online keeps pushing away from taking accutane. I went to the derm for 8 months, doing chemical peels; it got a bit better, then it came back. I've tried many things that ppl recommended for me, lemon, sea salt, masks, lotions...etc. I also tried Proactiv & some Neutrogena soap but nothing really helped. I know this is bad but i play with face somtimes; the pimples really hurt that I need to pop them.
I know how you feel. I tried all of those things to! Accutane is the only thing that worked for me. Honestly, in my opinion people make it a lot worse than it actually is. From the numerous people that have taken it only a very small percentage get the worse side effects. I would take the chance and get it. :) Good Luck!
congratulations on your success! I have an appointment in January to see if I need it. I've tried countless things over the past year and a half and there's basically nothing left but accutane. it's nice to see your success story!
then you will probably get prescribed accutane. i tried antibiotics and some ointments and i saw my doctor again he sent me to the derm. and he prescribed me accutane
thats exactly same with me. its not really that bad. i dont have any on my face just on my shoulders and back a lil bit, but the prob is its been there for two years and wont go away. the derm said it gets tough to get it away without the accutane.
your skin looks amazing here! i just started claravis 5 days ago and i'm just anxious to see results. and i agree about the cetaphil making you feel greasy. i use cerave
Hey ya it got worse about 1-2 months into the treatment and didn't get better until about the 4th month. It does depend on how severe your acne is though.
nice skin... very soft and clear... i totally hear what you're saying... it gets worst before it gets wayyy better... ive only been on it for a month!!!
i just have a question, coz i mostly have acne scars even before i use accutane, i just started using it 4 days ago, and i was wondering if it will also get rid of acne scars? did u had acne scars before? and did it go away after using accutane?
hey omg ur skin is lovely, im breaking out all over my face and i have alot of acne marks now =( will accutane always clear brown and red marks? did u have any?
Hey yes accutane helped with my red marks and since the accutane takes away the acne then the red marks will fade away because your face isn't flarring up. I don't have any red marks anymore. It does take time though so if you go on it be patient.
Your skin looks amazing! Did you have to use birth control? I'm thinking of trying to use accutane but my mom might freak if I say I need birth control...
No I didn't use birth control because I am abstinent. For Ipledge that's what I declared so I didn't have to take it but most dermatologists make you take it anyway for security purposes. I'm sure if your doctor talks to your mom she may not freak out as much. :) Good luck!
i just started going on dermatologist and he first recommend me to use predisone?or watever it's called and he said to visit him again after a month, then we'll see if he can switch me to accutane..truthfully i'm kinda scared to start using accutane coz my cousin said there's alot of side effects, and it affects ur liver? but yeah, did u experience any nose bleed? and did u have to get blood test every week? do u still go to ur doctor?
To my knowledge, only a dermatologist can prescribe accutane to you. But when you see the doctor make sure to ask for a referral to a dermatologist for accutane in specific.
Hey with my insurance mine was $60. It all depends on what insurance coverage you have and I took the generic version which is much cheaper. Well my dermatologist in South Orange County so I don't know if that's close to you but she is very good. Her name is Dr. Kim Tang at Saddleback Dermatology. :)
oh yay that was why I made it. :) Keep strong, it will get better! Oh and I didn't exfoliate while I was on the accutane because my skin was too sensitive for I recommend you don't exfoliate but if you do use a very gentle cleanser.
thanks for the informing info ill try not to get discouraged over not seeing quick results im sure it will help in the long run

Do you know what month your acne got to be really bad? My gradutation is coming up in about 2 months...so i don't know if I should start now or start at the beginning of summer....any advice? :S
bluedevil670 1 year ago
@bluedevil670 If you have your graduation in 2 months I would wait til Summer starts. The 2 month mark was when it got worse before it got better for me.

Did you mean Aquaphor Healing Ointment? I can't find it anywhere but I live in Texas....Pfft! I could order through Amazon but maybe that's not the right product? Just checking

What type of drinks were you avoiding? I am doing research & have found I need to avoid some like sodas, grape, and orange juice.
ChuloHondurenoXC 2 years ago
Good Luck!

My doctor is going to put me on accutane its going to be either 10mg twice a day or 30mg once a day, do you think i will have any of the side effects you had?
tiki356 2 years ago
I just got finished in December with my six month course of Accutane. I took 40 mgs. twice a day. Total of 80 mgs a day. I weigh 145 pounds. I'm so happy with the results. I was so scared to take it cus of all the scary stuff people tried to tell me. It never got really bad when I began taking it. I was amazed how it got rid of blackheads, for good!

I go on accutane in a less than a month and I can't wait... I hope it is a success... I have had acne for way too long, its painful, and extremely embarrassing. Thanks for the video, very good info!

One other thing...did you need to get your blood tested every month the whole period you were on accutane? Did ur insurance cover it?
msaluma 2 years ago
Yes, I did and my insurance did cover it.
lolalover 2 years ago
Thank u soo much for all the advice! I still have to do alot of thinking but I will definitely keep u in mind! Congrats on ur accomplishment and I hope to be at that level soon!

So i'm kinda scared that the pimples might leave scars. Anyways, I wanted to ask you if there was any other side affects other than the little depression you went thru after you stopped. How long did you go on it for the first time? Any permanent side affects? Is it ok to wear makeup while taking accutane?
msaluma 2 years ago
Not really, just the dryness. The first time I went on it, it was for 6 months, and it stayed clear for a good couple of years. It did come back but not as bad as before. My acne hurt and was really annoying though, so I decided to go on it again and now it's gone completely. Yes, it's fine to wear make up. While on the accutane, it just might be a little flaky, so make sure to have a strong moisturizer.
lolalover 2 years ago
I'm really really hesitated about taking it; reading some scary stuff online keeps pushing away from taking accutane. I went to the derm for 8 months, doing chemical peels; it got a bit better, then it came back. I've tried many things that ppl recommended for me, lemon, sea salt, masks, lotions...etc. I also tried Proactiv & some Neutrogena soap but nothing really helped. I know this is bad but i play with face somtimes; the pimples really hurt that I need to pop them.
msaluma 2 years ago
I know how you feel. I tried all of those things to! Accutane is the only thing that worked for me. Honestly, in my opinion people make it a lot worse than it actually is. From the numerous people that have taken it only a very small percentage get the worse side effects. I would take the chance and get it. :) Good Luck!
lolalover 2 years ago
congratulations on your success! I have an appointment in January to see if I need it. I've tried countless things over the past year and a half and there's basically nothing left but accutane. it's nice to see your success story!
mattfitz6 2 years ago
then you will probably get prescribed accutane. i tried antibiotics and some ointments and i saw my doctor again he sent me to the derm. and he prescribed me accutane
someguynamedaaron 2 years ago
yeah thats what i'm thinking. it's not THAT bad, but its very stubborn and won't respond to other treatment.
mattfitz6 2 years ago
thats exactly same with me. its not really that bad. i dont have any on my face just on my shoulders and back a lil bit, but the prob is its been there for two years and wont go away. the derm said it gets tough to get it away without the accutane.
someguynamedaaron 2 years ago
I am about to take it but I am really freaking out recently. Did it leave any permanent side effects on you?
Leoyizhou 2 years ago
nope, nothing. It really is worth it.

hi i was just wondering, how many week/long did it take for your acne to get worst before it gets better? it will help a lot thanks
missangelanicole 2 years ago
Hey ya it got worse about 1-2 months into the treatment and didn't get better until about the 4th month. It does depend on how severe your acne is though.
lolalover 2 years ago
nice skin... very soft and clear... i totally hear what you're saying... it gets worst before it gets wayyy better... ive only been on it for a month!!!
:)
patience is needed when on accutane.
trippymyth 2 years ago
Ya mine didn't start getting better until the 4th month but it did get better. patience is definitely the key.
lolalover 2 years ago
ur skin looks really nice now ^^
i just have a question, coz i mostly have acne scars even before i use accutane, i just started using it 4 days ago, and i was wondering if it will also get rid of acne scars? did u had acne scars before? and did it go away after using accutane?
bLuebhErie 2 years ago
If not completely get rid of it, it should at least help. I didn't really have any scars but I did have terrible red marks and they did fade away. :)
lolalover 2 years ago
hey omg ur skin is lovely, im breaking out all over my face and i have alot of acne marks now =( will accutane always clear brown and red marks? did u have any?
jendc12 2 years ago
Hey yes accutane helped with my red marks and since the accutane takes away the acne then the red marks will fade away because your face isn't flarring up. I don't have any red marks anymore. It does take time though so if you go on it be patient.
lolalover 2 years ago
thank u, u look very pretty btw =)

Your skin looks amazing! Did you have to use birth control? I'm thinking of trying to use accutane but my mom might freak if I say I need birth control...
meggers422 2 years ago

I never used it but I heard good things. Your skin is also very sensitive so that is a contributing factor. Be patient. :)

Does it have to be a dermatologist that needs to prescribe accutane???
Because im going to the doctor tomorrow,
and i was wondering if i can just ask my health Doctor to prescribe them for me..
thanks.
AbbysWatchingYou 2 years ago
To my knowledge, only a dermatologist can prescribe accutane to you. But when you see the doctor make sure to ask for a referral to a dermatologist for accutane in specific.

hey!! i just want to ask you if you can give me any info about your dermatologist
i live in south LA, too i'm thinking about trying accutane
and how much did accutane cost you??
i will appreciate your comments!!
thanks, erick
anthoony10 2 years ago
Hey with my insurance mine was $60. It all depends on what insurance coverage you have and I took the generic version which is much cheaper. Well my dermatologist in South Orange County so I don't know if that's close to you but she is very good. Her name is Dr. Kim Tang at Saddleback Dermatology. :)

hey,
i love watching post accutane video, its giving me hopes lol...Did u exfoliate ur skin b4,on or after ..
thanks
TheBirdify 2 years ago
oh yay that was why I made it. :) Keep strong, it will get better! Oh and I didn't exfoliate while I was on the accutane because my skin was too sensitive for I recommend you don't exfoliate but if you do use a very gentle cleanser.
