  • I liked the origanal lional better!

  • I have no doubt that George would call Obama a 'zebra'.

  • I LOVE the Jeffersons!!!!! This was my favorite "adult" sitcom as a kid. I remember George constantly using the word honky to describe white people....but I love George anyway. If the show was made today, Tom's line would have been "What IF I called you the N-word"?

  • No one can get mad at Tom saying nigger. He's too likeable lol. That crazy honky :)

  • Sound????

  • ehh, i dont even get mad when i hear a white person say it...cant stop them from saying it so no point in bitchin

  • ..it's all comedy, I actually laughed when Tom called Mr. Jefferson the N word...his reaction was priceless...

  • OMG!! Can you just imagine if The Sopranos and The Jefferson's were next door neighbors!? Can you imagine all the F Bombs being thrown in an argument this intense between the two of them!?

  • he called me nigger!

  • Tom will smash your lil ass George , so watch it.

  • What's great about Tom saying that to George is that George doesn't look offended, he looks almost impressed. And then immediately comes back with an incredibly cruel insult to both the Willises.

  • Now now, now calm DOWN! It's not worth breaking up over crazy George! HEEY!

  • PC PC = COMMUNISM= Our president O S L A M A = his grandparents were members of THE AMERICAN COMMUNIST PARTY! But you DOPES know NOTHING about H I S T O R Y, and the R U S S I A N REVOLUTION! Dare to COMPARE!!

  • @apocyldoomer Whos Oslama??

  • Why do keep hearing a V-8 passing by?

  • Willis did not call George a nigger, George called Willis a honkey first, and then Willis said "Dont call me honkey, what IF I called you a nigger". This is an example of the misreprentational poison liberals put out. Knock it off !

  • @yellowjag They aren't the same.

  • @yellowjag im a liberal and i understood the exchange. it should say :"this is the poison that morons on youtube put out"

  • @yellowjag nigger and honky are worlds apart when it comes to the history between my people and yours. the malice and the hatred and the evil behind that word? it could never in a million compare to nigger. So remember the disgusting things your crazy ass ancestors did when you support that bullshit. But since you're white you'll never understand.

  • @darthcom1

    Get the hell over it.

The problem is not the color of your skin, it is the giant chip on your shoulder,

  • @yellowjag Actually this is just the misinterpretation brought on by self appointed racists or people who do not use their heads to see things that are quite obviously not true. In short, they hear or see what they want to hear or see, Can't blame a political standpoint when we are all guilty of being that way yourself included...

  • @yellowjag Calm down, its like saying "what IF I beat your ass right here!" it's still threatening and purposeley offensive.

  • @yellowjag He's right (from a black man.)

Though, how about NOBODY call ANYBODY those words?

  • If looks could kill, George Jefferson would have been dead about a thousand times over, just by Louise.

  • just believe GOD you are wonderfully & fearfully made

  • Lionel screaming off to his room was always funny as hell. LOL!

  • Honkey, Nigger, big deal.

    get over it.

  • @FishlegsJones all I know is that this and Archie Bunker, Sanford and Son was the funniest shit ever.

  • They cant say words like this on tv no more

  • Comment removed

  • Florence is soo cool

  • These mfs married n none of em wear a ring lol

  • @brianmckinney78 i never noticed that.

  • I remember this episode, classic. So many reality shows today just don't get it. this was down to earth and honest writing

  • hey thats NOT Lionel!!!

lionel was Mike Evans. he was the original lionel on all in the family and when the jeffersons first started!

i cant believe they used a fake lionel! mike evan was awesome and the best!!

  • @LadyScorpio39 Thank you for writing that:) I agree. I had a hard time accepting anyone but Mike Evans as Lionell

  • @keliata

    thanks.

i know. mike evans was THE original lionel on the show, and all in the family. when he left they should have said lionel was away or something. they shouldnt have got another actor.

i wont watch the show with the fake lionel. ill only watch with mike evans or nothing.

and not just because i think he is absolutely gorgeous. but becuase he was the original lionel on all in the family. they should not have changed the actor.

  • The Other Lionel was sooooooo much Cuter! :P

  • Damon Evans is now a stage performer and singer. His last known acting television role to date was on THIRD WATCH in 2000.

  • notice how the racist remarks pretty much were gone by the last 4 or 5 seasons.

  • @msmithstud

Maybe George was wearing thin as a black version of Archie.

  • @msmithstud I think that Sherman Helmsley once remarked that he thought that after so long, George and Tom had become friends on the show, and railing off on "honkeys" all day was getting old, or something.

  • in reality, Mike and Sherman Hemsley were around the same age. Isabel Sandford was years older than Sherman.

  • Great dialogue!!

  • I can't stop watching 2:56! Hilarious.

  • i love that episode :P

  • I couldn't that crappy Damon Evans replacing Mike Evans as Lionel; shows should NEVER re-cast characters with a different actor, especially after the same actor spends years playing the same person.

  • @postalmeter Mike Evans worked behind the scenes on the show GOOD TIMES and came back to THE JEFFERSONS when GOOD TIMES ended in 79.

  • Comment removed

  • @msmithstud

Weird.... so the just re-cast him again like Becky on fucking "Roseanne"?

Pretty damned arrogant of the producers to do that.... it would have been easy for Lionel to just move out and come back a few years later. Same with Becky going off to college in another state etc.

The producers and networks get so fucking arrogant that they just treat the audience like a bunch of mindless sponges, "it was all just a horrible dream" etc.

I can't wait for some competition in television.

  • @msmithstud

Mike Evans co-created Good Times...much more than behind the scenes :)

  • This episode shows the double-standard very well, i.e. that liberals claim only white people are capable of hate-speech.

  • @postalmeter typically response from a closet white racist, honky doesnt and will never have the same connotation or historical significance the n word does..Whites dont even get offended by the word they just pretend to so they can act hard done by and say "see blacks can be racist too"

  • @kreed82

You don't even know when you're being played; racial politics is just diversion by the establishment in order to suppress states' rights through guilt-by-association with racism, so that no one would ever question the legitimacy of the federal government claiming NATIONAL authority in its so-called "civil war."

Yeah right, then Hitler's invasion of Poland was a "civil war" too.

  • He doesn't CALL him "nigger," he says "how would you like it IF I called you nigger"?

What part of IF, do these morons NOT understand?

    IF? You know-- HYPOTHETICALLY?

Which means that he's NOT calling him that, since then it wouldn't be hypothetical!

    a-DUHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

Fucking morons who play the race-card aren't worth their weight in shit... "and if they ain't worth shit, you must A-QUIT!!!"

  • Love those 70's clothes-- YECK!!!

  • reality tv took over

  • Great dialog! If this writing happened today, the show would be banned. It's reality writing.

  • What are you going to do next

    IM GOING TO DISNEYLAND!

  • What happened to the "Lionel" that was All in the Family"?

  • @Tony63909 Mike Evans worked on the sitcom Good Times, got replaced by Damon Evans & Jay Hammer then returned once Good Times ended.

  • This was so great to watch. Why can't they bring back these shows on Regular television. The Current stuff on tv is all Garbage.

  • I hate to say it, but George WAS asking for it!

  • what's that voice at 4:04?

  • @tulllguy ERROR, VOICE NOT FOUND

  • @robertbutler714 sounds like a guy from the audience

  • I thought I heard George say the N word than Tom said it back.

  • What's this episode called???? :O

  • @WorldCitizen89 The Break-Up

  • The great thing about the Jeffersons is that it was kind of like All in the Family only flipped to show how absurd Jefferson's prejudices were and how they were just as bad as Archie's. If you take the lessons from both of those shows then it would probably be a good blueprint for how America should be, even today we're still working on it.

  • OMG, this is one of my favorite episodes of "The Jeffersons"!!! I love Tom. "What kind of a degree are you getting?" LOL!

I notice some people have been comparing Damon Evans' Lionel to Mike Evans' Lionel. I preferred Mike's but that's not to say that Damon didn't do a great job playing Lionel...because he did. I just prefer Mike's more plus I remember Mike's from "All in the Family" (I'm 17 by the way).

Anywyay, thanks for a great upload! You're right, we are too politically correct today.

  • lol funny

  • Lenny Kravitz's mom is hot.

  • Never mind the "n****r" gag. This was the funniest part of this clip...

Tom: "Now now NOW! Calm DOWN! It's not worth breaking up over crazy George."

    George: "AAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!!!!..."

    Loved George's reaction there.

I remember Lionel's sorta crybaby reaction to Jenny breaking up with him. I just can't imagine Mike Evans's version of Lionel reacting that way.

  • @tsntana I agree; Mike Evans was much better as Lionel...Damon Evans' Lionel was too milquetoast. Mike's Lionel was great with the sarcasm.

  • @ShawnieMac Yeah I liked the sarcasm from Mike's version. But I think an angry and heartbroken Lionel wouldn't have made a sound. He would've just went to his room and slammed the door (audience "oooooo's" and "wooooo's"). Florence's line about the Jefferson household being "better than the zoo" probably would've been omitted if that were the case.

  • @ShawnieMac This Lionel was like an attitude match for Louise; the other Lionel was like a more educated George. That's why he was better.

  • Ok first of all, he didn't call him a nigger, he said how would you like it if I called you nigger. Please don't go around mis-titling your videos and making people think the worst. Be honest about stuff.

  • @cmarti78

They have whites so wrapped around their little finger that the facts don't matter, that's the only reason they elected a black president who was completely inexperienced and unqualified, and who was a corrupt as any poltiician.

  • @cmarti78 it should've been “Tom using the worg ‘nigger’”

  • @cmarti78 nigga please!

  • @cmarti78 yesh he was equating it to the N word

  • @cmarti78 What the Hell are you talking about? George Jefferson said "He called me nigger!" So he made the title through that. It wasn't soooo misleading like you're making it sound. That's like saying "George Jefferson is so misleading. The white guy didn't call him nigger but he's saying he did. I'm so angry!"

  • What ever happened to Micheal Evans?NO one could replace him.I'm surprised he didn't go further in his career. He made All in the family ALOT better !

  • @demmylowther He went on to co-create "Good Times" but came back to his part on "The Jeffersons" years later. He passed in 2006. Gotta agree with you though, NO one could replace him!

  • @demmylowtheri read in te 90s he had full bown aids i crie lovedhim bu seen he was ok so i duno

  • There's no way this can be the same Lionel that was on Archie Bunker. When did they switch actors?

  • @RichieEastside the original lionel was on the 1st season of the jeffersons & then they got a replacement. then the original lionel came back for the 6th season

  • helen is right honkey as just as bad as nigger its call racsim no matter what color your skin is...ps i know i spelled rascim wrong probally so there is no point in pointing it out

  • to correct everybody this was the 70's she did not say NIGGA, she said NIGGER. back then we said NIGGER. when my entire family got together it was said all the time. alot of white people want to PC this shit but just live with the fact that you all used it "differantly" than we did, white folks need to get over their guilt !

  • @use2slam2 Gladly if not for every evil under the sun being blamed on White people.

  • @use2slam2 I'm White and I don't feel guilty about shit. I've never wronged a human being in my life due to their race, creed, or sexual orientation.. I have little respect for white folks who walk around on egg shells trying to be PC n kiss Black folks asses, fuck that.

Realistically, I love Black folks, this country wouldn't be half as Beautiful as it is without it's African flavor and heritage.

I think comedy has helped us ALL come a long way in healing our nation of it's past. 1 Love.

  • been looking for that episode ,lol

  • been looking ofr that episode ,lol

  • How about the episode where George was referring to his son Lionel "burning down" one of his cleaning stores (due to "faulty wiring"): "What the hell is he so mad about? That nigger burned down my store!". I rolled on the floor laughing when I first heard this - LOL!

  • 3:19 WAS CLASSIC to..

  • 1:08 to 1:30

  • 1:08 to 1:30 seriously had me choking up ...LMAO..that waS to funny!

  • The Jeffersons and All In The Family were meant to show the silliness of racism, however the audiences applauded in great agreement to their racist undertones.

  • lmao at Lionel runnin hollerin to his room!

  • which episode was this?

  • I didn't get why the audience kept clapping for the sad parts...

  • They worked so good together

  • Lenny Kravitz's mom likes white meat.

  • He didn't acutally call George an N. He said "How would you like it if...?" Making it yet another life lesson from the conscienscious TV people making you better people since at least the 70's.

  • Florence cracks me up.

  • I love how this particular scene (or anything else, for that matter) would get people here to post the "n" word and insult blacks in particular just because they can.

Nevertheless, the show is still funny...

  • One of the top 5 sitcoms of all time!

  • Wow, Kramer didn't get the same sort of laugh when he said it.

  • Sure the Jeffersons and All in the Family were edgy for their time. They pushed the envelope in ways that no other shows would touch with a 10 foot pole. But cmon, every show is trying to out-edge each other today. Americans are much harder to shock than they were in the 70s or even the 80s. Just because you don't hear the N-Word on TV today, doesn't mean you don't hear (and see) everything else under the sun.

  • @SteakDinnerBoom I am shocked by the amount of times white people use the "n" word on Youtube. I'm in my 40s, from the South, and Ive only heard a white person call me nigger once and that was when i was eavesdropping at his front door. I guess youtube has given me a real perception on how racist people can really be.

  • @blkthingblkthing Im mostly white and part Puerto Rican....I have 100% black friends lol life just happened that way...I support NAACP and interracial relationships and Obama...because of that I have been called nigga more times than i can count and i have been attacked by the KKK....and im in the south too..i have seen racism first hand...its awful. best thing we can do is love one another

  • @danteskippy Sorry that happened to you.

  • @danteskippy i agree...hate is bullshit the color of skin don't mean a thing what matters is what the person is like on the inside simple as that

  • @danteskippy Puerto Rican isn't a racial identity.

  • @bintasylla1 ummmm ok...wow...yes it is....but ok u good

  • @danteskippy Go stick a black dilldo up your ass then suck-ass..............

  • @badguy3101 as freaky as that sounds...that might be alitle too painful 4 me!

  • @SteakDinnerBoom The boondocks.

  • George looks like a black asian

  • we all need to stop calling people names they hurt

  • @reneee800

OK Well, then...tell the blacks to stop calling EACH OTHER "nigger" and calling whites "honkey". What I see is many blacks who dish it but sure can't take it. And a lot of bird brain whites who just grin and bear it. Well, not this kid...

  • @dakotagerman1 I'm black and I agree with you 100 percent....

  • "He called me nigga!"

  • I'm glad Tom called George a nigger. It's about time.

George IS! a nigger. Even other blacks call him nigger.

  • George kept on pushing Tom as usual. Tom didn't call him nigger he said how would you like it. If Tom did Helen wouldn't stay with him.

  • They don't make shows like this anymore....FUNNY!!!

    Who you calling crazy, honky?!?!

  • When these shows were playing America was actually making progress on the racial front. Now that the progressives have taught black people that screaming racism at anyone who tries to open a dialog will end the conversation, "niggers" are free to act as racist as they want to with no accountability. The first real step towards bush law they have made outside of Africa...

  • Way to stand by Tom and back him up Helen!!

  • The Helen character is absolutely right. Tom calling George a nigger is no worse than George calling Tom a honkey all of the time. That's not what you hear nowadays, if a white person is called "cracker" then it's considered okay, a double standard. Even Helen (a black person) was able to see this.

  • priceless

  • I wish TV shows were still like this....

  • Louise was right tho....when she told Helen she (Louise) can talk about George cause that's her husband, but it's not ok for Helen to talk ish about him.

You have to know that's a line you don't cross...regardless of friendship.

  • @BlkAngel1746 haha you're really into this

  • It's funny how applause goes for both sides.

  • Will didn't actually call George a nigger. And wasn't this the Lionel from Roots: Next Generations?

  • i loved it when lionel screamed and ran in his room

  • Louise really shows her love for George. Even though she knew he was wrong but she understood him 100%. The "saying United we Stand Divided we fall" rings true.

  • I love George and Louise reaction to Tom saying nigger....that shocked look is priceless. Its still an ugly word.

  • @Stablemable2

No uglier than honkey, cracker, peckerwood, whitey, or any of the foul, rabid-foam epithets that come out of George's racist mouth.

If it wasn't for the white man, he'd still be in the jungle scratching fleas off of himself and swinging from vine to vine.

  • @dakotagerman1 You should get a neuro MRI.

  • @Stablemable2 Why, for telling the truth?

    George IS! a nigger.

  • @dakotagerman1 Your thoughts are sloppy.

George is a brash TV character.

You probably think George is worst than NAMBLA or BP....

  • @Stablemable2 ugly as honkey

  • @Stablemable2 He didn't really call him a nigger, though. He said "how would you like it if I called you 'nigger'?" to point out his hypocrisy in saying honky all the time.

  • @Stablemable2 Hi. I am a white male and i love black comedy sitcoms like Sanford and Son,The Jeffersons Good Times What's Happening. All in the Family was really good as well. Love the black humort in Geroge Jefferson's character

  • @Stablemable2 It is the ugliest of words, and only ignorant people use it. It's beyond vile and I wish people would wise up.

  • @KellyGreen5555

More like suck-asses self-hating whte hypcorites claim that in order to show how "tolerant" they supposedly are compared to other whites, while guilt-tripping blacks use it in order to make the white liberals tremble and dance.

Every group has words that offend them, and if anything's "vile" it's the claim that offending one group is worse than offending another-- it's like saying that 10 white people killing someone for being black is a "hate crime," but not the reverse.

  • @postalmeter Your incomprehension level is staggering, along with your S-P-E-L-L-I-N-G.

  • I'm trying to find the complete episode now. I remember when this first aired on TV back in the late 70s.

  • What episode is this?
