  • I seriously yelled when I saw this title OMG COULD IT BE?! Yes it could be, and it's fucking amazing.

  • I wish he wasn't addicted to drugs because he'd still be alive

  • @MechaDestoroyah8 I agree, but it was just meant to be man. He's in our hearts forever and at least we have the amazing music to remember him by.

  • yes dude, rip in peace Kurt, layne and mike starr..

  • alice in chains

  • Everything about this song is fucking visceral. The droning, dissonant guitars, the sludgy riffing in the chorus, Layne's haunted vocals, a great rhythm section. This entire album represents such misery at such exhaustion the same way Dirt represents that same misery at it's most aggressive boiling point. You could almost trace Layne's spiritual decline through Alice in Chains and Mad Season (highly recommend checking them out).

  • does anybody know if Layne used vocal effects on this track? I know he used it on Head creeps and Frogs but are those the only one? would really like to know... thanks

  • @csmzcs dude they doubletracked laynes voice on alot, frogs and rotten apple have at least 3 or 4 laynes singing still sick harmonies

  • @mexicandude7 Exactly. AIC really started favoring multiple Laynes. Especially on Nothin' song.

  • R.I.P MIKE STARR ...

  • @kiindeermman rip Kurt Co-stanley-starr..

  • Anyone kinda disapointed in the Fact that jerry hasnt pulled a Zakk Wylde and guested on other peoples albums.

Got so much talent and just doesnt put himself out there like he should.

    RIP Layne, keep inspireing!

  • offcourse you can take tattoos , weedplants for example...or buy this fucking album

  • every time I her laynes voice I get chill bumps. His voice is so haunting, its like hes still here.

    RIP layne we miss you!

  • humanity is a sissy for not listening to this song,

it is a masterpiece. haunting, and honest and deep as hell.

i respect layne and jerry for writing with their shadow side, as maynard would say.

most people are afraid to do that.

  • Awesome!!! RIP Layne, Mike Starr and carry on the best Jerry, William Duvall cool newcomer :-) and Sean Kinney and Mike Inez -

Can't fault Jerry's perserverance and guitaring after Layne died (RIP).

  • Like If you would trade the 3 that disliked this video for LAYNE STALEY

  • @sick8721 4 haters, now. it should be 0 haters, but some people have nothing better to do than go around random vids and hit the 'dislike' button.

  • this is your brain on drugs...

  • i love this fucking tune to lay around and get drunk!!!

  • true gods of music

  • I'm getting high just for you, Layne.

    ;)

  • @missjunkheadx He would probably not like that very much.

  • @missjunkheadx That's exactly what he didn't want!

  • @AliceInChainsVideos

    You never know, sweetie. ;)

  • @missjunkheadx Yes, Layne has mentioned that in several interviews, and by his mother! every AIC fan should know that he didn't want people to start using drugs or getting high and shit like that! He was happy for those who had managed to kick their drug habit, and he was pissed when people came up to him and said that they were high and showing him thumbs up.

  • @AliceInChainsVideos

Just so you know, I didn't start getting high because of Layne.

It's just so happens that all of my hero's were junkies. ;) Nothing wrong with that. And nothing wrong with me getting fucked up! I like it, and it works for me. Thanks for your comment, tho! *peace* :)

  • @missjunkheadx dumbass

  • There is not an AIC song that I can not like

  • Whats Chuck Norris got to do with AIC?????????????

  • why does this music feel so good ,when i feel so bad?

  • omg i love this band. theyre addicting <333

  • chuck norris listens to aic

  • @jtilldad Chuck Norris IS Alice in Chains. Chuck Norris is ALL living things.

  • Puff, puff, pass. Second-hand cures neighborhood ills. (Aramis Deceives) Contact hello there mis amigos. Wow! Your sister is really lookin' good tonight. For some reason.

  • my conception a joke or latest craze

  • don't try to understand addiction period....it's a hell of alot more than using a substance that is killing you. to try to give advice about it is silly. it's not about the addiction but about the person that remains questionable.....and that's not meant in a demeaning way

  • every day is a victory when i don't once think about getting high. granted, i never toyed with heroin, but it's still an addiction. and to anyone who thinks an addiction is a choice, you need to get off your high horse and realize there are people out there who fucked up and can turn their lives around.

  • I have always felt this was their best song from this album and the best song that layne wrote by himself. i know most AIC fans don't recognize this song as great, butto me it does. and regarding some idiot posted on here about addictions, everyone has some kind of addiction. some are good, some are bad. yes some minds are stronger at beating an addiction than other's and unfortunately, layne's mind wasn't so strong to beat his. trust me, i am an addict.

  • "I try to run away ...yet I stick around......

    'Heroin"=living hell

  • this song is stupefying. layne was the best rock/metal vocalist ever

  • @ComaAlpha - do u know ppl hooked on heroin? my friend's dad contracted AIDS frm shootin' up & died from the sh*t .. his other friends didn't GET HOOKED!! some ppl can stop takin' it, some ppl can't, just like some ppl develop diabetes and some don't...it's a DISEASE..you're correct, it is a CHOICE to introduce your body to the drug, doesn't mean he didn't try to stop..take a psychology class...PLEASE!!! you'll learn and understand so much more about addictions in general!!!

  • dude, if you see humor in someone's death (regardless if overdose was the cause), then u have serious issues...

    good luck...you'll need it...

  • i disagree, everything needs to die

  • @Jazzarus - i never argued about the inevitability of death. My argument was about mocking someone's cause of death..do you find it humorous if someone died of AIDS or ALS???

  • ComaAlpha, do me a favor. shoot up some heroin. see what its like to be addicted. i promise you it will change your whole view on life and addiction.

  • uhm.........I'm smart, so I don't fucking do that.

  • dude shut the fuck up!!!!!!!!

  • as long as I have the power to piss off the people of the world, I shall exploit that power to it's fullest capabilities. :)

  • i bet you wouldn't have the power if i met up with you in person i would kick your junkie ass dude. ALICE IN CHAINS kicks ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm not a junkie, R-Tard!

  • @ComaAlpha just shut up your doing us all a favorite by shutting up! and your the retard....... i saw all your comments about Layne. no ones perfect for an example you act like your better than anyone which you aren't. your so full of yourself and that doesn't make you perfect numbnuts!

  • That means your biggest achievement in life is to be an internet troll, wow congrats retard, you are now a certified moron.

  • That's certainly one way of putting it. But you also have to remember that you faceless names are not the only people that I piss off. I piss my friends off all the time. But it's ok 'cause they piss me off as well.

  • @GodlyVayne - don't waste your time - some ppl just don't get it (like ComaAlpha) - they always label the addicts as "stupid, etc" but they've never walked in their shoes, so they shouldn't judge..

  • yeah that's true. and i feel bad about what i said too. i wouldnt wish addiction on my worst enemy.

  • @ComaAlpha - I think you need to go back to school (unless you are still in school then seriously, you need to hit the books...a bit more) drug addiction is a disease (complex brain disease - take a Psychology course and enlighten yourself), it's not like Layne wanted to OD nor did he deserve that way of death!

  • A disease like herpes?

  • lol yes, like herpes

  • its a disease u ass.... nobady asks to remain an addict u fool....

  • mitch hedbergh.

  • @ComaAlpha nice job tryin to rip off a Mitch Hedberg joke lol

  • @yolates fight an H-head with an H-head. I almost saw him in Cleveland too. I wish I would have. He was opening for Dave Attell and Lewis Black. By the time pay day came around they were sold out.

  • @ComaAlpha Well, if you payed attention and researched what you're preaching against, you'll know he didn't do it because he wanted to towards the end, he just couldn't take the pain. If you listen to songs like Angry Chair or God Smack he talks about them in a very negative manner. Yes, he failed to overcome his addiction, but he preached against it, and for that, you must give credit where credit is due.

  • @Aviancie his girlfriend died. WAAH! What did she die from again? OH YEAH! Heroin overdose. Look, I'm not going to take anything away from the man's talent. He had an incredible voice and he knew how to use it very damn well. BUT that has to do with his talents, but not his personality. Layne Staley on CD and Layne Staley in person were two different people as far as I'm concerned. I love AiC, I loved Layne, but I'm not going to condone H.

  • @ComaAlpha No one asked you to. No one here is saying what he did was right. But what happened to him was tragic and despite the fact that he couldn't get out of it, he knew it was wrong and he made sure others knew that through his music.

  • @Aviancie Contradictions are counter-productive.

  • @ComaAlpha Not really a contradiction. He talks about resignation and impending doom. He knew he was gonna die. And in his lyrics he explain how he couldn't get out of his addiction and that was the main reason he cited to not even start. Listen to Rotten Apple.

  • @ComaAlpha he had that whole problem with thinking his dad is awesome and trying to be like him. Ended up becoming a huge druggie

  • @ComaAlpha She died of endocarditis actually.. caused by heroin use..

  • @ComaAlpha House: "It's Lupus."

  • @evilhitler69 bet he was right too

  • How can you say someones tattoo is retarded or not? Maybe the guy is a huge fan of alice in chains...people get tattoos for reasons, you are not in a position to say anything about what body art people want to have...SO FUCK OFF! : )

  • @Raneyboy yeah i've got an alice tattoo it's the sun in black in blue for Layne

  • im high anyone else???

  • so good

  • RIP Layne...AIC FOREVER

  • Comment removed

  • the solo at 2:25 is right on the money, fits the song so well.

  • fukin awesome, i thought i heard every thing...pshh....thanks for posting this bro..

  • AIC 4 FUCKING LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Layne Staley is my idol. I have RiP Layne Staley tated on my arm, Muhaha

  • poser

  • hahaha that probably took the wind out of that guys sails

  • Don't people have guardians or teachers for role models, why do people nowadays depend on celebrities who don't know you for that shit.

  • AMEN! I get negative 4 for speaking the truth? Anyways, I'm going to get an AIC/MM/NIN tattoo. And not just portraits of Layne Staley, Brian Warner and Trent Reznor. 2 reasons,

#1 the image idea is MINE and MINE ALONE

#2 the music is what it's all about anyways. Not the people behind them. Brian Warner is a dork. Trent Reznor is a whiny bitch and Layne was a heroin addict. Neither of which I look up to. But all three have released music that moved my soul.

  • sir you are ill mistaken. you must not know what its like to be addicted to opiates. and people worship layne not because he does heroin and all that. people worship him because his struggle to send the message to his fans that heroin is a bad drug and to stay away from it. thats what layne was all about.

  • Music to my ears... where did it go???

  • satan's scared to listen AIC.

  • Laynes looking down on the band and saying Thank you for keeping the music going. Its what Layne would have wanted.

  • the universe feels better about mankinds overall shit existance when it remembers that it helped make Alice In Chains possible

Chains for life, afterlife, and beyond

  • @JoeSlinkard mostly I suspect people are good... the news and society has us so afraid of each other...

hardcore junkie respected rock n roll star RIP LAYNE

  • @JoeSlinkard U got knowledge on Astronomy, NWO and the Illuminati?

  • and brush away loose ground...

these dance music fans have no clue what they are missing

AIC ROCKS THE FUCK OUT OF THE DEVIL HIMSELF!

  • haha, thats fuckin awesome.

and those idiots have no idea what they are missing. more for us.

  • this song is amazing, truly full of raw emotion. this band was so gifted, and really have influenced me into becoming the person i have become today. layne staley was one of the best vocalists in the history of music. FUCK GLAM!!! FUCKING FLYING TANGERINE DILDOS

  • but AIC had glam influences. that's what made them so unique combine galm with brutality. you can see that on facelift.

  • Comment removed

  • I dont think I could ever pick a favorite AIC song...they all suit me at different times in my life. Ah, go AIC!

  • i want that picture on a shirt...

  • Its from the inlet of the Dirt album. And yeah I agree, that'd be kick ass.

I just found this song through Pandora b/c I can't find the albums after Jar of Flies around here locally... and damn this is one beautifully nasty song. \m/ looking forward to the new CD by the way.

  • Crazy as it sounds the first ten seconds remind me of Dethklok's "Fansong". You don't believe me? Compare them sometime. *grin* Hail AIC and Dethklok.

  • Hahaha! I see what you mean! Crazy shit.

  • yeah

  • there is no way that AIC and the band you call Dethklok (Fansong) is anywhere close to the same. I question anyone's musical judgement that listens to Dethklok.

  • Re: GrizzlTooth's comment.

why do you question anyone's musical judgement who listens to Dethklok? It's a death metal "band" from a popular cartoon. obviously it's not serious like AIC. some people just want to have some fun with music.

  • I don't have any issues with people having fun with music. My issue is comparing a band like AIC to Dethklok, such as you did. You'd be better off comparing Spinal Tap to Dethklok in my view. I went searching out Dethklok thinking they were the next best thing to AIC based on your comment. boy was that a surprise!

  • you mean how brnleague99 compared them, correct? Based on your negative feedback I've gathered from your assessment on Dethklok, would I be correct in assuming you don't have a taste for death metal, or would it be because you feel AIC is superior to a fictional cartoon band?

  • i listen to dethklok!!! but not for its musical value, they just have funny lyrics....i would never compare them to AIC... we all know which is far superior

  • tired dictionary curled a closet in june

    ahh oh oh

i may mate with a yaris in your yard if you dont rape a red rhinoceros rattlesnake

contaminate cotton cat candy cream in a creative cult of camels without happy humps on their headless hazel heads

  • sometimes it's def not the lyrics but the way they're sung

  • AIC never disappointed!!!

    Kickass song!

  • i personally am not a fan of pearl jam i like A.I.C mark lannegen srry if i spelled it wrong nirvana before that mad season mudhoney no pearl jam and a little soundgarden thats about it im stuck in the 90s

  • lol you hate a band because there label? and by the way there considered grunge because of "ten" there other stuff isnt. PJ is a very good band, mike mcready is sick just like he is in mad season and vedder is one of the greatest live performers of all time. they are my second fav next to AIC

  • im not the only one who thinks pearl jam sucks am i?

  • no i do too,i fuckin hate them!!!=)

  • you mean Girl Jam, right? lol

  • Nah, man, you're not the only one. They only have like 3 or 4 good songs. In contrast, I cannot think of a bad AIC song.

  • Comment removed

  • i dont hate them its better then most music being released nowadays

  • ...And it's not the Jonas Brothers. God...I know people say "hate" is a strong word, but I really do hate them...a lot...

  • It seems like every person wants to believe that their generation was the best. They want to believe that they had the best schooling, the best state of economy, the best music, and so on. It's just natural because a person doesn't want to believe that they lived half their lives with mediocre standards. Despite this, however, I think there is no denying that this music truly is better than the shit that comes out today. Why? Because it's deep, dark, and stares at the world right in the eyes.

  • if i ever learn drums, this is the first song i would learn. it has such a playful beat, despite the lyrical nature of the song

  • alice in chains had their own sound just like pearl jam both bands were very good. alot of band have tried but it cant be done, enjoy

  • I'm 14 and love Alice in chains. I've gotten my friends into this band. Were musicians with many talents. We hope to bring back great music and destroy all that shit out there right now. layne was a legend and the greatest vocalist ever. R.i.p peace layne. And hopefully your music will help eliminate the shit out there right now.

  • This song is so eerie and amazing... I love Alice in Chains. I'm a fourteen-year-old girl, so all of my friends listen to Rihanna and the Jonas Brothers, and they think I'm crazy.

  • good for you

  • deep music for deep people.

  • good for you......its pathetic and im glad theres still kids like you

  • yeah not everyone has a love for music in them so feel lucky

  • U rock......you're like my little sister...i'm 23 and she's 16 but i've been always worried of keeping her well educated in music

  • oh yeah, aic is my fav band and im 16 and i have a 2 year old sister and im already drillin them and pj into her so she doesnt grow up listening to shit music,

  • All my friends are guys yet they listen to all the lame music (except they like old LP and trapt) the rest is Dragonforce, openly emo music, disney stuff, J-pop, so its kinda difficult to be in a band with them. (its called A-Psalm-Sheet)

Finally someone I can relate to.

  • You have my pity, my friend.

  • I like Disney and I LOVE AIC.

  • What I find sad is how despite Cantrell's best effort, good lead-guitar playing waned in the 1990s.

  • Rap sucks anyway tekmek, so why are you even calling rap music when all rappers do is talk in 4/4 time and rhyme while hitting buttons on a board to make a beat that sounds good to them. Yeah thats real hard to do i'm sure, alot of talent required. MOST music is shit now, we are trying to keep it alvie but society is all about hip hop and emo shit now. I miss AIC and all the other bands that are just memories now.

  • Jerry's neck shadow is making bunny ears on Layne. How fuckin' cool is that!

  • yea im not seeing it,i guess ur just fucking wierd.

  • I wish i was around at this time,,,metal or anything dont mean shit anymore...it would of felt good to belong to something ( a movement if you will ),,this era is shit

  • Yeah, it was pretty cool to be in my late teens and hear "man in the box" for the first time. This record came out in '95, but I was still was only 22 at the time. Great time to be that age as opposed to nowadays. Wish Layne was still w/ us...

  • fairy tale

  • The self titled AIC album is SO good. RIP Layne.

  • classic aic

  • that whole CD is awesome.Like I've said it's so hard to pick a favorite CD from Alice in Chains.I will say that this one could be the overall best for hard grinding rock with outstanding lyric's.From 2:20 o 2:44 you hear the Hendrix influenced sound from Cantrell where he recorded it forward but played it backward when laying down track.Hendrix done it on the song "Are you experienced ?".All I

  • very fucking cool.

  • love this song its so hypnotic

  • you guys who were teens in the early ninties- you were so freaakin lucky!!!

  • Whats funny is that back in the 90's when i was a teen, the older guys would be like "oh man motley crue, ratt!" and we all knew they sucked, not cuz they were older but because they really sucked. Kids these days know whats up-AIC, Nirvana, Soundgarden, STP, Pearl Jam, all that shit pre-97 is fantastic. Be thankful for bands like Staind, Crossfade, Seether, 3 Days Grace cuz you can hear the influences of these great bands.

  • Be thankful for bands like Staind and Seether? No thank you. But your aforementioned point is a good one.

  • It's a lot better than what is being force fed down these kids' mouth and labeled as "rock music". If bands like Staind weren't around, you'd have all these fags in their sister's black jeans and eyeliner ruining the music world even worse.

  • Tell it like it is man, music is no longer about emotion or soul. Its about what can make a quick buck

  • Exactly.

  • Yeah, people today just don't know what good music is anymore.

  • Music will always have a profit factor in it.

You can say rap is sold out, but it's not. Rap YOU hear on the radio is sold out, but there are always artists who make it for the music. Keep in mind AIC and the Seattle Scene were riding a wave of post-glam angst and cynicism in rock. So don't give me shit about how music is BS now.

  • wait are you saying that Motley Crue sux?? I was with right up to that point
