At the moment this is the best supported way to accomplish this. When html5 becomes more widespread with the newer browser, there's nothing that keeps Google from switching.
Except it requires Silverlight to use it. This requires only Flash, which while still crappy, is at least available for just about all platforms except iPhone
@wastechart fuck iphone. who cares about iphone, get another cellphone that can do the job if you really want to use this. what there is no "app" for siver sight?
Hey, they finally did it! I saw a demo of Microsoft doing something similar to this a few years ago and I instantly wondered when Google would integrate it into Google maps.
@shahab29inch I am not sure exactly where I saw it. I was just browsing the internet when I stumbled across it. It might have been on tedtalks though.
This is exactly Photosynth, including integrating user photos into streetview. I'm not sure the feature is live on Google Maps yet. User Photo Slideshows on Google Maps have been around well over a year now.
The transcrition subtitle are just horrible :( seems the technology is not good enough at the moment, it's sad for the deaf people and the foreigners like me
Street View for the win.

Using other ideas or not, Google does it better.

Another smart innovation from Google. Especially suitable for countries where Street View is still not available.

Booo to more junk using Flash! Shame on Google for not implementing this with the standards-compliant HTML5 canvas.

Yeah, but Picasa sucks, so good you don't force people to use that.

Awesome and since this uses flash it is avaliable on Win/Mac/Linux and Android.
Steve only sees blue boxes tho. :)

You can do street view on android?
I haven't found that on the google maps application that came preinstalled on my android(Only had it for a couple of days)
lordmetroid 1 year ago
@lordmetroid Hold your finger down on a street and a menu will pop up after a second or two. You should be able to do streetview from there.

never thought I would say this, but microsoft is actually ahead this time...
Batch1211 1 year ago
Ahead if you own a windows operating system. Pft, who wants to do that?
Not me, that is for sure!
lordmetroid 1 year ago
Microsoft? Google is independent of Microsoft. Microsoft's search engine is Bing.

@Batch1211
I agree.
Though I don't use MS machines or Apples - guess what?? :))
I saw Photosynth and thought it was a great application. Finding that they were restricting it to another plugin was annoying and disappointing
So, I'm glad to see that the Google boys and girls have come through again.

@Batch1211 You realize that google and microsoft are 2 completely diferent companies right?

He was saying that Microsoft is ahead of Google. It's understandable that you didn't catch this; it's not true in this case.

Wouldn't agree that this is better than what Bing is doing.
Bing layers the picture straight onto streetview images.
I just tried this out and its a little more that a slideshow. Bing also has photosynth's integrated into the maps!

This is not even close to the Bing demo that was shown.
The photo's were seamlessly integrated into the streetview in the Bing demo.

Bing maps does this with Flickr images, and does it a hell of a lot better too.
Check out my video response!
