I have got sand for fish aquariums :/// My mom brought it I told her to buy the sand for Reptiles (Snakes etc,..) but noo she wanted to buy that one for cheaper :// .. I go back to the pet shop where I brought my bearded dragon and gonna ask which sand is better
i have to agree with that, my baby beardy put its head in the sand at night, when i woke up he had sand in his eyes and was barely moving, i tried to clean it out but he was too stressed out and died within about an hour
peopleare saying about all this compaction and stuff, i have 3 beardies they lived on calci sand all there lives and there absolutly fine, What do you think they live on in the wild australian deserts? concrete? grass? Wood? no they live on sand,
having them on calci sand is provided them with a sense of there natuaral habitat!
Wow, that was a great video <3 I just got mine today and I can't wait for him to grow up so we can have all of this fun. :) He has such a personality. I love the part where he jumps down into the pillows and sheets, lol And your whole habitat at the end is beautiful. If you have any tips, please let me know.
me too, I love snakes. My mom wont let me have snakes because the last one I had escaped and so said no more. But I do have 2 baby Bearded Dragons, a Tokay Gecko, and 2 European Green Toads. Once I move out I am getting a Red Tailed Boa and a Python along with a large lizard like an Iguana or Monitor.

wtf?! There's no sand in the terrariums?! Poor animals...they love to dig and sleep in there sand buildings. Their home is everything but NOT bearded dragon adequate
Hey look up your information before you comment. It is very well known that sand is the WORST thing to put bearded dragons in because they swallow it and it gets in their system and stays there causing sand impaction. I have a friend who's bearded dragon died due to being in sand. The x-ray of the bearded showed a complete blockage in his system.
mine has sand in it, the vet told us that it is good for them as babies, just don't feed them where they might get sand in their food, but im not sure if its a good thing or not. the breeder i got mine from, has sand in her adults terrarium. we use to have him on paper towels, but he didnt like to walk around and got overweight. we tried tile and he didn't like it either. sand has done the best. he runs around and is over all healthy. also they bury their eggs in the sand.how do urs?
@ewstokes i have a beardie andf i put sand in his cage, he doesnt swallow it and my local pets at home recommended it to me, am i doing the right thing, or shuld i use something else like calcium sand or that ugly carpet stuff in the vivarium. i dont know why but i love seeing my beardie in the sand. its more true to his life and its soooo cute when he digs over the heat mat and gets warm :P
@ewstokes i have a beardie and i put sand in his cage, he doesnt swallow it and my local pets at home recommended it to me, am i doing the right thing, or shuld i use something else like calcium sand or that ugly carpet stuff in the vivarium. i dont know why but i love seeing my beardie in the sand. its more true to his life and its soooo cute when he digs over the heat mat and gets warm :P ive also heard that giving them their crickets and hoppers directly makes them less active, is this true?
@ewstokes Ok...that's true...DEPENDING on your bearded dragon. I have two, switched them over from alfalfa, did the RESEARCH, and they never eat it. It's completely up to the dragon to decide whether he/she is smart enough to recognize it should not be eaten. So far mine have been in their sand for about 3 months....no ill effects, whatsoever. Generalizing is one of the worst things in this world, please choose your words carefully, like "I wouldn't reccomend it." Thank you.
@ewstokes i had 2 leopard geckos that dies of that too, now i have a bearded dragon and i love it!! i one of those green carpets now its old enough to live on sand :D
@ewstokes Yeah, I actually agree with you. My bearded dragon had issues because it kept swallowing sand... my parents and I ended up paying a $500 emergency vet bill JUST to get her checked out. I think it was a respiratory problem or something. Anyway, we took the sand out right away and replaced it with newspaper. She's doing just fine now. =)
@ElleEctro Pretty much agree with u Elle!.... so be it if they die a couple of years earlier or maybe it doesnt make a difference!
However these dragons are desert animals.... they always eat sand in the desert and unfortunately they also get respitory problems from dust in the desert from the sand too!.... but thats their home!... And i think u should make them as natural of a home as u can!
@ElleEctro Please do research, honestly his cage is perfect for a beardie, My dragon died due to impaction (stupid lieing petstore) And Ewstokes I love your beardie hardrocker head banging

I bought a beardy about 24 months ago and he's only grown about 2 inches...he has proper lighting and a great diet so idk whats wrong, someone please help me out
Did you take him to your vet? because if he has the right temps, feeding, and is pooping on a normal basis, he might just have a growth disorder. But I've never heard of growth disorders in beardies...
not really but their stuff like lights habitat and stuff won't be cheap. Ur lookin at wastin 300 or more bucks when u buy one and its setup but they are very docile and easy to care for. If ur on a money budget then thik about gettin a leopard gecko.
Ya, I got an albino leopard gecko to start out with about a year ago because it's easy and cheap. Now, I'm thinking about getting a Bearded Dragon. They are badass. What size tank/cage is recommended?...I mean by the time it's full grown.
well a bearded dragon will need a 40 gallon tnak and don't get like a small one and then a big one cause thats just wastin money plus they grow very fast so he will be like half grown in like 3 months or so. 40 for 1 or 55 if ur gonna get 2 and yea they're badass i wannna get one too but not yet.
about a year. if you have one, be patient. enjoy when their small too. youll miss it. i dont though of course because i always have babies on the way (i am a breeder)

well a bearded dragon will need a 40 gallon tnak and don't get like a small one and then a big one cause thats just wastin money plus they grow very fast so he will be like half grown in like 3 months or so. 40 for 1 or 55 if ur gonna get 2 and yea they're badass i wannna get one too but not yet.

i recommend a 60 gal tank. this way it will be big enough for the dragon their entire life. also its nice and big for them to get some exercise.

Haha, those are some sweet beardies.
I love to see them wave. X3
Mine doesn't do that, of course, because he thinks he's a hardass and refuses to show ANY signs of submission. =P
pengupuff 3 years ago
since the become juvi's only females wave their hands and males bob their head up and down
kaos4204 3 years ago
Actually, they both do it, its just less common in females, they are less territorial and head bobbing is territorial.
wolfos523 3 years ago
its not just a territorial thing its also to attract female dragons

try turning on Godzilla. lol. that got my big tough male beardie to start waving immediately seeing that big reptile!
