I love her timbre, but the singing is earthbound, especially in the upward scales, where the music should really take flight and give the listener the impression of buoyancy. But thanks for the post. Stefania is always interesting to hear.
Bonfadelli is not quite the best I've watched playing Lucia, but her voice has a marvellous dark tone that fits this part perfectly. However, her acting is too soft, it doesn't seem to capture the character's growing insanity in his scene. Anyways, anyone capable of delivering such a clear high Eb while kneeling deserves all the respect and applause in the world. Brava! x)
BetuliaLiberata is correct. She falsely colors her voice with the tongue. See how furrowed her tongue is on the finale note. The tongue must never be depressed in bel canto singing. So sad, she actually has a lovely voice.
That false color, round sound is made with the tongue, as opposed to drawing the dark color from the chest/appogio. It's why her high notes are so thin and small, less support. This false color made with the tongue tension is the disease of present day opera singers/sopranos.
I love this video. I have the DVD with her Traviata and I loved her there too. She is an amzing opera singer and actress. Stop comparing her and others with Callas. She can't be compared. Maria is somewhere in the stratosphere and nobody can touch her anymore. But Stefania is just herself an she is GREAT.

I listen to this and I want to say that she's good but the truth is...Sutherland and Callas completely spoiled us when it came to this role. There have been exceptions but it's almost impossible to step out of their shadow when it comes to the belcanto repertoire.

For some reason she reminds me of Natalie Dessay...

Where was this performance?

She sounds like she has an "egg" inside her mouth. Hate this type of technique that makes a "round" on the voice that is just so fake. YUK!
