@the24th1 Dude I'm beginning to get confused. What's the difference between a worked shoot from a shoot? I thought a shoot simply is a promo where the wrestler makes reference to real life basically breaking the fourth wall, blurring the lines between reality and storyline.
@Mr1131988 a shoot is not usually a promo, a shoot is when a wrestler does an unplanned and unscripted rant about the wrestling buisness usually breaking kayfabe....a work shoot is a planned promo made to seem as if it were a real shoot.....thats the difference between punk and austin.....austins SHOOT was the real deal and how he felt, punks was scripted and fake
@the24th1 Thanks but I'm still a bit confused. Wasn't CM Punk speaking from the heart but at the same time very much in character? So a worked shoot is basically a wrestler doing a shoot with the promotion's authority, am I right?
@Mr1131988 not really, chances are that the wwe story writers created this story and gave him this topic to talk about, what is impressive is how well he carried it out tho....
@the24th1 I guess I kinda get you. In 1998, there was a time Undertaker did a worked shoot complaining about his status with WWF and his jealousy of Stone Cold's success. I guess it came from his heart but not without WWF's consent and they suggested the topic.
Hey, he does Dusty Rhoads inpersonations very well. It was the best thing that ever happened to him leaving WCW because they didn't know how to write for him. It was same with Hulk and AWA. Stone Cold Steve Austin in his heyday was actually in my opinion, more fun to watch than Hulk Hogan in his his heyday.
After watching this video, you really have to respect the perserverence Austin had to be famous. WWE, ECW, WWF/E, or just plain old circuits in Montana, it didn't matter where he went, nothing was going to get in his way to be what he was going to be.
@badges2142 What about Masato Tanaka? Or Chris Benoit? Or Dean Malenko? Or Eddie Guerrero? Or Chris Jericho? Or Mike Awesome? Not all of ECW was garbage wrestling, just a lot of it.
what? austin is boring to watch? when steve austin step into the ring, the crowd's goin wild because hell will be raise when austin is in the ring.. and that is not boring.. it's exciting
I could hardly recognize young Austin compared to the later Austin as he gets older. The only thing distinctive between the two is his iconic voice and the look in his eyes.
Listen, this must be the most motivational speech that I ever see, Austin gets fired, and he is in ECW, that small federation, and he BELIEVES he`s the Best ever... years later he prove that was true... Austin, you`re my role model in life
the voice that Steve is mocking is of dusty rhodes, may Rhodes sucked big time in wcw. How can you stop a guy like Austin from becoming one of the greatest. Well you couldnt stop him and he became "The Greatest"
I never knew about this interview. I didnt' follow wrestling much in those years. But I can see that when he got fired from ECW, that really lit a fire in his pants, to prove to them that they were wrong. This interview seems to represent the largest pivotal point in Austin's career.
wrestlers should be motivational speakers. i know this sounds gay but i just got divorced and had no idea what i was going to do and was depressed. i watched wrestling promos and it brought me out of it.
@djrobertjohnson Very interesting perspective and comment, and I would agree with you. Its funny though when they get in front of a mic though and have to talk 'normally'... they always seem so tame.
WCW deserved to die...pushing wrestlers 10 years past their prime was the norm in WCW and giving them political stroke sealed that wrasslin companies miserable fate...the ones who got out of that piece of shit and went to the WWF were lucky and actually saved their credibility...Malenko, Gurerro, Benoit, Saturn, Paul White, Jericho...when they jumped ship to the WWF/E it saved their credibility as workers.
to me this is the actual beginning of the character stone cold Steve Austin even though he doesn't use that particular name the personality is there EC Fucking W
The interview that explained the death of WCW. They had wrestlers on the verge of being superstars and they fired or buried them. Austin, Pillman, and Zenk were all great workers who could have carried the company. Eventually, they were all fired.
hahaha a nobody? he made more money then youll ever make doing what he loves. He along with people like the rock atleast made wwf entertaining for a while.
@countbloodula : The WWF was in financial ruin and on the verge of bankruptcy before Austin came. Within the span of 3 years after making Austin the franchise the WWF went from near bankruptcy to being a billion-dollar company. Steve Austin himself has made so much money that he doesn't even need to wrestle anymore. If that is what a nobody is, I'd like to know what the definition of a "somebody" is.
I agree. It's like Austin was finally unleashed and you're seeing the birth of Stone Cold in this interview. And everything he said ended up being true.
Awesome promo! I can't believe WCW had Steve Austin jobbing for Buff Bagwell and Alex Wright( the 18 year old German Kid.) Austin had more talent and charisma than both of those stiffs combined. I think that this was shot around 1994 or 1995, not sure though. one of the true greats, before he was Stone Cold.
best promo ever in my opinion cuz its not written its all comin off his head no one else could do it like stone cold except maybe the rock but he was more funny that serious...SCSA 4 life!
it is a shoot from the heart..
those kind of shoots you only get from guys that just got fired...
contracted guys are to scared to loose their jobs..
--still punk is a great shooter-despite his actual angle is scripted it contains a lot of realtalk and truth..

Steve Austin was hungry, and when he got that ball in WWF/E he took that fuckin ball and ran with it for what 10 years? Awesome!
