TOYOTA HAS VTEC O.o Seriously though, I read the comment down there about the lift at 6500? Is it electronically controlled to mix more gas and air or whatever at that rpm?
@mazda6tuner99 It's very similar to VTEC. At 6500 rpms a second set of lobes are activated on the camshaft which increase valve lift and gives a boost in HP.
Sweet. I just ordered a Fidanza and a Exedy stage 2 for my Matrix Xrs, since my stock clutch started slipping beyond repair at 100k miles. My first tune. Woo hoo!
I miss my 05 Xrs, thanks that made me smile. I know you have the flywheel change but in almost every Xrs vid I see with this engine I don't hardly ever hear the lift activate in 4th gear. It was very noticable in my though. Also I think Toyota should put the 1.8 VVTL-i back in the 2010 corlla Xrs or either put the Camrys new 2.5 with a lift feature.
@Jaran911 I never said it did, can you read and understand what I said which was I WISH they'd put the VVTLI back in the knew ones or the Camry's new 2.5 I NEVER said Toyota did it. Learn how to read B4 you go on "wrong and wrong" to someone with your Miss Thang attitude. Get a life and stop analyzing everything people say!!!
@will000089 Wrong. There's not even a 2.5 that exists. Clearly your car knowledge doesn't go past google, so this convo is over you have nothing for me
I never had problems either with my xrs, just te freacking abs. I read that corolla xrs came with a different oil pump that doesn't tend to brake and neither does the lift bolts.
How did you make the Cluster to Change color when it Activates the Lift??? Did you Edited the Video Color to view when it activates or is the actual cluster?
Oh yeah the lotus but that's an expensive car. I was reffering to the new corollas, matrix ect. You know best band for the buck. The engine is Toyota's 1.8l 2zz dual over head cam with VVTL-I meaning variable valve timing with lift intelligence. Used in the Corolla xrs, Matrix xrx, Celica gt-s, spyder mr and yes the lotus.
good while they run but they tend to brake a lot thats why they discontinued it ,was bad for the warranty for toyota in the economic cars so end for 2zz in cheap cars.
haha, i have an xrs too and they're awesome... but it's kinda funny how you say that you "never had any problems with it" and then you said "till the day she died"... i think that's a problem... just saying...
the stock oil pump is not that good under a lot racing conditions, ask campito he knows or even redliner9k. i had a friend that messed up the bearings twice because of the oil pump endee up taking the pump to campito so that he can fix want tends to break.
the emission excuse its not the reason, search for a toyota at this moment from 08 & up and see that no one has a 2zz motor, only the lotus and doesnt have as much sell as toyota. This engines were good but not that reliable.
Toyota says they discontinued it due to Euro IV Standards, but yes that could easily be bullsh*t, it was also discontinued because the engine was very costly (hence why they also dropped the 2jz in the Supra) and it also did not sell very well. (the 2zz not 2jz) The only unreliable thing about the 2zz is the oil pump and lift bolts, these were fixed after 03, and as long as the driver doesnt downshift from the top of 4th to 2nd and break 9k rpm, the oil pump holds itself fine.

@123mrkevind XRS's don't use an ECU driven throttle, so that argument is invalid. Try again.

alright the one thing I don't understand about cars, what are the benefits of a light flywheel and a upgraded clutch
marvin6262000 2 years ago
revving faster and clutch holds more power. for every pound off the rotating assembly is similar to 8hp

i agree with vitamin. best motor ever. nowits only in the pontiac vibe and the lotus.
