Now this is what a trailer should be. It creates tension and got my heart pounding. I couldn't take my eyes off the trailer. And it did ALL that without giving much of the plot away, or even showing the alien. Most trailers today show way to much so there is no surprise when you go into the actual movie. This trailer sucked me in and made me want to see the movie, and I've already seen the movie more than once. Now, I want to see it again...all due to this trailer.
I've never understood why the egg in this trailer and the poster, is so different to the egg in the film. Is it meant to be symbolic, or was the design changed in production at some point?
The best Sci-Fi movie ever made, a top notch cast and great director, it's been copied to death over the years and has stood the test of time, it puts many of today's efforts in the shade....a true classic !
@KingRhiyo It's not a direct prequel, but will have something to do with the Space Jockey, as you can see from the trailer, with glimpses of the Space Jockey and the ship they discovered on LV 426 in Alien.
@WinstonSmith144 Yes, but Prometheus will contain strands of Alien DNA. So I think the Xenomorphs will make an appearance in SOME FORM in Prometheus, but they won't be the main focus of the film.
Hard to believe that Alien was released a little over three decades ago, and it still holds up well. It scared the crap out of me when I was young... and that's what made it so good.
the trailers scary as hell. its even better that it doesnt give anything away. cant imagine what it would have been like to watch this when it came out in theatres.
@atmenan2012 scared the living shit outta me. I was 15 years old when it came out and no one had ever made a film with that kind of visceral impact before.(other than"The Exorcist") Did'nt wanna eat an egg for about a month. lol
OMG i'm so glad Ridley Scott is returning to the Alien universe with Prometheus. I was pumped when I heard they were doing a new "The Thing" movie, but when I heard Ridley Scott was doing a pre Alien story I was so pumped.
@nostalgiatrip1 I knew "The Thing" wasn't from the original maker but I was still excited until it turned out like shit kinda. It wasn't the worst but it was typical hollywood spin off trash. Prometheus looks more promising then most films with Ridley Scott at the healm of it. I can't wait. It may not be a prequel but it's nature is in the original Alien realm. This has been so long in the making well since 1979, now if we could get James Camerson to return for another film as well haha doubt
@Johnlindsey289 Yes I did know that but when I reference the Thing I'm ignoring the Hawks Thing From Another World movie and by remake I mean no matter what others might say movies that are "prequels" to movies from the 80s that are made now that are homages to the original movie with no props from the original writer or director in any are remakes. Having said that the Thing 2011 was a great example of that, its the same movie as The Thing 1982 but if not made by John Carpenter
@MCEProd22 Point one: It isn't a prequel to ALIEN, because there is no ALIEN in it. Point two: The ship you see 'tumbling down' (FYI: It's not just a 'ship'. You say it like you've just seen it in the prometheus trailer. You see, this 'ship' as you so claim, is not just a 'ship'. The titanic is a ship. This, is an icon. Every single alien fan since the dawn of time (well, since 1979) will immediately inform that this is the 'Derelict' "space"craft.
@MCEProd22 (continuing my point one comment) This, is an icon. Every single alien fan since the dawn of time (well, since 1979) will immediately inform that this is the 'Derelict' "space"craft. It also sneaks its appearance in Aliens. Do you wish to know why? Because, IT IS THE DERELICT "SPACE"CRAFT!) is infact not a ship that belongs to the aliens. It belonged to the space jokceys. The aliens (I think) took control over them. (See 'Alien'. Please.)
I envy people in the 70's who were seeing whatever the hell they were seeing and this completely "alien" trailer comes and scares the fuck the outta them. Not only that, they got to see the movie months later and have the movie somehow exceed the hype. A quick google search for the best horror movies of 78 and 79 shows that this movie was on another level.
Wow...there's something so much more terrifying about this than any other overly produced and excessively gory horror movie today. This is just plain good old fashioned scary...refreshing in a way.
The best one for many, many reasons, but mainly because they never found a non-alien villain to match the sublimely scary Ash. Also, the cat is a much better actor than Newt, and quieter.
... and that is how you create a movie trailer. Give the audience some credit and let them decide if the want to see the film. Especially without showing the ending or the entire plot or every character arch and the thought that it may be something other than what it is...
This is how all trailers should be made of. No single alien are shown in trailer and u re excited in wtf is going on. And the movie is about fucking aliens!
It is a prequel, but it won't feature the xenomorph. It explains what the ship is that crashed on LV426 and how it crashed. And probably what happened to the crew.
Apparently it has to do with the origins of mankind as well.
Anyway, xenomorph or not, I'm psyched out of my mind after seeing the Prometheus trailer.
@Cain353 No the xenomorph is said to be explained as well. From what I can gather, the humans turn into a creature like the xenomorph, and breed somehow, in turn making all the eggs. It's a very compelling story.
Only the origins of the xenomorph. From what I've heard the Prometheus crew get 'punished' for taking something they shouldn't have. Much like the Prometheus mythology.
Ridley Scott has said it will not feature the xenomorph because it (the xenomorph) has been milked dry.
Can anyone link me to a video with the 'scream' sound effect used in this trailer, and the trailer for Prometheus? Think it'd make an awesome text message alert tone...
This film was ground-breaking as it took horror to a level not yet explored. And I have to say it done it very, very well indeed. Probably second only to The Exorcist for 'shit in your pants' fear factor.
Why don't they make film trailers like this nowadays? If only to add a little variety. The new ones literally can't get me excited over a movie anymore - they all look exactly alike. I'm jaded.
The Alien movies never scared me, but I've had nightmares where I'm trapped on a spaceship with the Aliens and Predator...I wake up nearly shitting my pants every time I'm so scared.
This is one of the best trailers in my book. And Alien is still the scariest shit ever. Fucking Aliens haunt my dreams up to this date. But I love it!
Ridley Scott is a genius, this and Blade Runner are masterpieces. HR Giger who designed all this incredible concept, alien creature and ship, will remain as a major artist of the 20th c. Go see some of his work on the web, if you like art, you'll love this.
@bsharporbflat Giger is a impressive artist, I'll fully admit that, but his fascination with penises(?) is strange. An example being; How many penises and/phalic shaped objects are there on the Alien? double figures at minimum!
@Xengarrith Giger uses both phallic and vaginal shapes, maybe you only see the phallic ones. Look closer at the openings on the side of the crashed alien ship for example, he also uses a lot of suggestive penetration scenes all over his work, also I think its a deeply anchored style, he probably does it without thinking, like a signature or like some musicians phrasing is recognizable but they don't play that way on purpose. But what do I know, I just like the style.
@bsharporbflat If what you say is true about him being unaware of what he's doing, then 2 things; 1) How many penises and vaginas did he draw to do it now without thinking? and 2) imagine him drawing a little sunflower, would possibly be the funniest and most thought provoking thing he'd do in years!
@Xengarrith There is probably over a hundred phallic shapes on a sunflower and surely a few vaginal symbols if Giger would look closely...But I am still sure he doesn't wake up in the morning thinking -Gee!!!I really feel like drawing a penis today.
@MyTheprofessional Yeah, especially since effin Ridley Scott is doing it himself. Its almost like 'Prometheus' is his answer to all these Remakes/Prequels/Sequels of the last few years... you can almost hear him say: "Damn! If you want that something is made right, make it yourself!"
@BuellerBueller95 yeah they used the same sounds as of the alien movie because prometheus its in the same "universe" of the alien franchise ....i still believe we are going to see some alien stuff but not as much
Okay have you seen how this teaser has been made? it must a reference for any trailer made nowadays. They don't show too much informations, it's all about suggestion... It's stupid to see all of these current trailer reveal everything about the movie.
@GoldGollum Too true. I wish the Prometheus trailer was like this; I've not seen it, but I've heard the background music for it, and though that siren noise is included in the Prometheus trailer, it sure doesn't sound the same, and probably doesn't feel the same. ):
@Brown115Productions Helps build the suspense. I heard people were actually puking in the theatres when it first came out. People were leaving it to and it almost killed the franchise. Hats off to Dan O'Bannon for having faith and standing behind it making it one of the best sci-fi horror franchises today. :)
Maybe not in space, but everyone else in the audience heard me scream.

@bsharporbflat Giger is a impressive artist, I'll fully admit that, but his fascination with penises(?) is strange. An example being; How many penises and/phalic shaped objects are there on the Alien? double figures at minimum!
Xengarrith 2 months ago

Xengarrith 2 months ago
@Xengarrith There is probably over a hundred phallic shapes on a sunflower and surely a few vaginal symbols if Giger would look closely...But I am still sure he doesn't wake up in the morning thinking -Gee!!!I really feel like drawing a penis today.

@Nineteen1900Hundred true my friend.

@MyTheprofessional at 1:05 that same sound was used in the prometheus trailer :D
BuellerBueller95 2 months ago
@BuellerBueller95 yeah they used the same sounds as of the alien movie because prometheus its in the same "universe" of the alien franchise ....i still believe we are going to see some alien stuff but not as much

Okay have you seen how this teaser has been made? it must a reference for any trailer made nowadays. They don't show too much informations, it's all about suggestion... It's stupid to see all of these current trailer reveal everything about the movie.

@GoldGollum Too true. I wish the Prometheus trailer was like this; I've not seen it, but I've heard the background music for it, and though that siren noise is included in the Prometheus trailer, it sure doesn't sound the same, and probably doesn't feel the same. ):

@GoldGollum One of the best parts is that they don't even show you what they're running from.

@Brown115Productions Helps build the suspense. I heard people were actually puking in the theatres when it first came out. People were leaving it to and it almost killed the franchise. Hats off to Dan O'Bannon for having faith and standing behind it making it one of the best sci-fi horror franchises today. :)
