  • I'm surprised that Don seemed to have affected a sort of ersatz English accent ...

  • Watched the documentary many times... Chris was a playboy, fled from his duties for mother England during the war...people called him a pacifist then...... oh well ....

  • Ohw, that's so sad. ; _ ; I can't imagine being in that situation, you would know off the bat that your time with eachother was very limited. D:

  • Unbelievable documentary. Moved me into tears ...

  • Chris met Don when he was 16 but at first he dated his brother then when Don was 18 he started dating his and stayed with him for the rest of his life.

All of the sources, I've read said the Don was 18.

I have been sexually abused when I was 10 -11 and I could assure this is NOT pedophilia. This is a true love story

  • Christopher didn't have sex with him until he was 18. That isn't pedophilia. Besides, once you're over the age of 16 you should be smart enough to know what you want.

  • I saw the doc. Did you?

Isherwood did not have sex with "of age" boys.

And when you're sixteen, you don't know what you want.

If you think an experienced 30 or 40-year-old is the intellectual match of a 16-year-old, then you're crazy.

  • I never said they were intellectual matches, I was pointing out that, at 16, you know whether or not you want to go to bed with someone.

  • But are you mentally prepared for this?

Bachardy admittedly didn't know who he was.

You're suggesting that because he was horny it was okay.

Isherwood should have been Bachardy's mentor.

  • Let me try to rephrase everything I've said. Mental preperation difers from person to person, in Bachardy's case, he did not know who he was. I think he went on his primal urge.

If that is the case then no it's not okay because he was horny.

  • So, I'm going to leave this debate because I realize that you raise some very good points. I, however, stand by the idea that they were very much in love regardless of how old they were when they met and when their relationship began.

Whether or not, the relationship should have happened at that stage of Bachardy's life is out of our hands because Isherwood is dead and Bachardy's not going to throw him under the bus at this point.

  • You guys should go and see "A Single Man",,,,,,a great movie

  • lovely, beautiful and powerful !

  • Intergenerational relationships are difficult, but this one triumphed. Thank you, Don, for sharing you beautiful story!

  • This is lovely! Just beautiful! I love them!

  • I hope that Don is living a happy life without Chris.

  • if you loved someone so much for that long, i can't imagine it being easy...

  • Very true. I can't imagine either but I hope that he has found some level of peace through his art.

  • Isherwood's young lover was the most beautiful boy I have ever seen in my life. period.

  • @FRANCIS6189 he was pretty gorgeous but let us not exaggerate shall we? :-)

  • I saw this at the Gay and Lesbian film festival last night and it was fantastic.
