First of all, by 1922, Lord C. was really the "executive discoverer", the guy who footed the bills. It was Lord C.'s employee, Howard Carter, who discovered the tomb. Carter's discovery would never have happened without Lord C.'s sponsorship and support of course. Second, the tomb was not "completely intact"; it had been ransacked at least twice, probably soon after Tut's burial. Carter estimated 60% of treasures had been stolen during by the ancient grave-robbers.

The robbers never broke into King Tut's tomb, becuase although he was a king, he only served for nine years, and wasn't buried in an extravagant pyramid, but a chamber buried in the valley of the kings. Grave robbers didn't bother with his grave becuase they didn't expect their to be much they could steal. In fact, King Tut's tomb didn't have many riches, when comparing his tomb to other kings. They thought it would just be a waste of time.
