  • Ive been lovin this song for forty years and never took it to mean that it is Baptism that saves you. Why put a bad spin on a wonderful song with a wonderful meaning? All christians know faith in Jesus that saves us. What wonderful lyrics. Please dont look for the bad.

  • Yayy!! Been searching for this song since I was like, 10. Thank you for the upload!!

  • Praise The Lord!!!

  • Just a suggestion....everyone re-read Romans 5, 6, & 7 for what baptism is. It is a death and resurrection.

  • Great shot of Polly and Janice Lewis in the background!

  • To all you guys talking about how baptism doesn't save, you're right.

That's what the disclaimer at the beginning of the vid is for. "Back in the old days, when someone got converted, they would baptize them that very night." Lowry even talks about baptism being a 'picture.'

  • To Buckwilliams: Thanks for your comments - you are ABSOLUTELY right - it's our faith in God's son Jjesus Christ which saves us and the ordination of Baptism is just the outward symbol of an inward decision. Our decision to follow Christ and accept Him as our Savior. Thank you God for your saving grace.

  • definitely the best gvb

  • I agree that it is our faith in what Jesus did for us and our belief in who He is that saves us. Unfortunately, this song makes it sound like it is Baptism itself that saves us. Without faith, Baptism is just a shower.

  • @BuckWilliams17

I see what you are saying, but I think the message of the song is not as much about baptism, but a rejoicing in the repentance of a wayward soul. Before we accept Christ, we are all lost in our own desires until we find Jesus, and that day is a moment of great eternal joy. I give glory to God in the song as a testimony to the saving power of Christ, whether it be to the everyday church-goer, or the town drunk.

  • @BuckWilliams17 I think the point of the song is that Jesse Taylor got saved and his life was changed by God. Baptism is simply the picture of that salvation in Jesse's life.

  • @BuckWilliams17 Let me see if I can explain it like this. You don't fall in love on the day of your wedding, but are ya truly in love if you won't have one?

  • God bless thanks for sharing
