I hate freakin hollywood southern accents. I live in the south, and nobody sounds like this. I have visited various parts of the south, nobody talks that stupid. I mean it dosent even sound southern! A real southern accent is much more smooth sounding.

I realize that this is a tv movie, but they didn't have "9-1-1" back in the 70s when these events occurred. I just thought it was funny to hear Carol's friend suggest calling "9-1-1." As for the accent, I am also from the South & while the average country folks sound more hillbilly, there are those that sound more "uppercrust proper Southern Belle." I think that Judith Light did an amazing job of sounding like the latter.

The 911 service was founded in 1968, but I know that not every state had it yet in the '70s. Maybe they actually had it in the city where this was set?

@VaultMasterDBT Wow, really? haha! That goes to show how much I know. I grew up in Western Kentucky and where I lived didn't have 911 until the mid to late 80s. I recall being a very young kid and actually dialing "0" for the operator for an emergency. I just assumed that 911 service happened everywhere at the same time. Thank you for filling me in. I learn something new each day.

lol i think accents have variations. Not all southern accents sound the same or not not all Italian accents are exactly alike. :) But everyone is not used to her accent here though.
