One of the first IDF units to field test the Uzi was Unit 101, the forerunner of Israel's Special forces put together to deal with murderous Fedayeen raids on their civilians. It was a worthy upgrade to the concept SMG laid down by the Czech SA 25 series.
I dream someday that I can legally do the same thing shown here on my property with an Uzi or MP40 (Full or semi, doesn't matter)...
i have a imi uzi and i never noticed the bolt staying back after first fire each time is that just on full auto verison or am i just not noticing ill look when i go shoot next time if you dont get to answer but im pretty interested in knowing thanks if ya can hickok!
Ill be heading to Tennessee in the spring on a road trip. I was hoping to place a little pin on the map as a stop in your neck of the woods. I would love to make a contribution to your ammo/video/target fund for a chance to spend some time shooting with a proven gun "Great" such as yourself Mr. Hickok.
@Weezing77 Nope. There are pre-ban MGs that just about anyone can purchase, though it depends on your state. Costs a NFA tax stamp and a whole lot of waiting for the transfer.
hickok45 ive been a long time subscriber of your videos and you always have the coolest guns. but for once id like to see a video of you and your wife out killing some zombies or pumpkins.
Hickock... I know you had one of these a way back, but I think that you need one back in the Hickock battery full time. You are pretty good with one of these, as well as everything else in your collection and it has got to be way too much fun to hand back in a month or so.
as usual nothing but bunch of cry babies bumping gums about who's right or wrong about accuracy and reliability. just enjoy the fucking video. this is not a field test its a fun test....
There is something oddly frail looking about that open bolt. Carrying it in the field I'd be worried about getting dirt in there. I think I'd be less inclined to roll around on the forest floor hiding in the leaves and mud.
@HolinessWarrior Well the Brits, Germans, Italians, French, and Americans used open bolt SMGs to great effect in the sands of N. Africa during WW2.
Dirt doesn't really have anything to jam in an open bolt SMG. Most have fixed firing pins machined onto the face of the bolt, so any dirt is going to be working against the mass of the entire bolt slamming forwards. The weak point in most open bolt SMGs is the magazines, otherwise they are probably the most reliable autoloading designs around.
@vnlk65n That was basically my point though, you can clearly see the rounds in the magazine. I mean I guess it worked fine huh? Lol just surprised me is all. Looks like a lot of junk could get in there and cause a problem.
actually, its very reliable, I think when they weren't shooting they kept the bolt closed though, and it has loose enough tolerences that it would take a lot of sand to make it jam.
@HolinessWarrior Sand falls out the same way it falls in. Also the sides of the bolt are recessed so only the edges contact the receiver and the corners are chamfered.
Hey, to add to the discussion: "When the gun is de-cocked, the ejector port closes, preventing entry of dust and dirt. Though the Uzi's stamped-metal receiver is equipped with pressed reinforcement slots to accept accumulated dirt and sand, the weapon can still jam with heavy accumulations of sand in desert combat conditions when not cleaned regularly"
Also, Israel isn't the Sahara desert. Wars were fought in some sandy areas, but it's not like sand storms were flying around
@HolinessWarrior they actually barely issued it to troops for that reason, most where issued with the lee-enfield initial, then the fn-fal later on. Both where not so reliable either, not even the AK family can remain completly working in such an enviroment, but the UZI was generally issued to people who either didn;t have a whole lost of use for a full rifle, or specialty forces
@HolinessWarrior Looser tolerances between parts have historically been used in firearms design to provide increased reliability when dust and sand are an issue, in fact loose tolerances between parts are 80% of the magic behind the fabled reliability of the AK series. With an SMG 'bullet-hose' such as the Uzi, tight tolerances for the ultimate in mechanical accuracy aren't really required.
@HolinessWarrior - the IMU Uzi is like the AK of subguns, the tolerances aren't too tight, most of the parts are very simple, and it has proved reliable under most conditions. The cause for malfunctions in mine were weak ammo, the bolt is HUGE and HEAVY so the ammo has to be pretty hotloaded to be reliable.
@HolinessWarrior this isnt based on any research or facts i know, im just assuming, but im pretty sure they would leave the bolt closed and the weapon uncocked while carrying it.
aren't machine guns fun for the shooting range? We need to tell our representatives at Gun owners of america the NRA and our state representatives that we want our right to own a machine gun back because the machine for sale to regular folk cost roughly $7000 which is too much .
@hickok45 I want to know, and i think other people might want to also but. What was one of the craziest events that happened while you where in the police force?
@mostlymichaelcanada Wait!!! Your joking right?? The Uzi is a super accurate firearm the one he's shooting is a sub machine gun with a short barrel and the standard civilian version has like a 18 inch barrel i've shot both and aimed shot are very accurate! Most machine guns are like spray and pray designed for lots of lead down range!!
8 dislikes? Must be either liberal gun-haters or anti-Semites who just hate anything Israeli. I don't see how anyone could dislike this, even if it's not their favorite type of gun. I like the Uzi for the same traits I like the AK: super simple design that just keeps working
