I'm 18, and I remember this stupid show. I didn't really mind the recruitment ads, but I think the rest of it was a waste of time. My school was in a relatively good area (not rich or poor, upper middle class type) so I don't know why it was shown in our area. I didn't like the fact that it had an obvious political agenda, which baffled me because they talked about (subtext) about War being bad, yet they still ran recruitment ads. I think they should be taken off the air.
Channel One was pretty awesome when I was in middle/high school 1999-2006. Now it's just a way to push political ideals on the impressionable young minds that watch.
@momogal04 I watched it back in 1992; and to me, it seemed like propaganda. It was either something to do with then-President Bush41 or USA vs Japan as it emphasized how Japanese students were all about studying and looking beyond college while US students were just lazy party animals.
@lakebay972 My school was very conservative, but they seemed to think it was valuable to the students. And it was. It helped us form our own opinions on issues rather than just having our parents beliefs shoved down our throats. It started getting bad around my junior year. Then it was just a chance to do homework.
To add onto what I was saying previously: My classroom spends about 15 minutes each day after we watch and discuss the stories as a CLASS, and everyone has a chance to voice their opinion, and being a 14 year old, I like Channel One because it's something to kill 15 minutes of math class each day
Me being a 14 year old Freshman, I don't think Channel One is a waste of time. One, Shelby Holliday is pretty, so don't try to criticize the program over beauty. The main headlines are educational and important right? Alot of kids who watch TV and play video games don't watch the news, and the headlines at the beginning of the show tell kids what is going on. So it's not a complete waste of time. The next stories are just supposed to be fun and interesting more than serious.
who cares? channel one is usually just a filler that allows students to complete their homework anyway while other classes are still at lunch, etc. Plus, if you think PLL is innapropriate for teens, than you are REALLY naive.
@barkofhinkle The point is that filler is unnecessary, and such "news" simply brings in consumerism and branding into what should be an academic environment.
it sucks so bad some people in my class are getting their parents to excuse them from it

Joining the military was probably the single best thing I've ever done. If I had to live my life over again, I'd join again.

Channel One is simply forced corporate/government propaganda. I know because I have to watch this crap every school day in high school!
