  • when is the winner announced?!

  • No winner/runner-up published by The Guardian yet but, as I know it's not me (T&C, #20 "The winner and runner up will be notified... on or before 31 January 2009"), thanks to The Guardian for the shortlisting, Mark Ravenhill for his surreal but inspiring short story and all the people with constructive things to say about my entry. 'preciate it.

  • thankyou for considering my video.

i know i didnt make the shortlist but i love doing these competitions and thank you again for the opprtunity.

  • This is actually something worthy to take part in. To actually create something someone would enjoy. Instead of another Youtube popularity contest.

  • gotta live in the uk? damn

  • Anybody know why the shortlist still isnt up? It's taking a while isnt it, considering it was due 31st dec, then pushed back to 19th jan?

  • Any news on the shortlist? So many good videos!

  • anyone know where the shortlist is published?

  • hi

i tried to upload one ages ago but was too long so i re entered before the deadline

the video is called drawing of a talking chair......did you get it?

  • Thanks for all your entries. We will be announcing the shortlist in two weeks time, so come back then.

  • wheres the shortlist??

  • Does anybody know why the shortlist hasn't been announced, it stated that it'd be published on the competition website on 31st December but it's still not there?

  • Mines up, however when will the winner be pronounced? xx

  • mine never actually showed i posted it again today so people can see it if they want thanks.

  • UPloaded mine quite late at about minutes to 11:50 called Its a life. hasnt shown up yet but i hope it accepts an swf (it said susessful)file fingers crossed. Good luck everyone :).

  • Hi,

I also posted my video response entry very early this morning but it is also not showing up yet. Is there anything I can do to speed up the upload process?

    Cheers

    Alex Hinx

    Thanks.

    And Good Luck evreybody!

    Cheers.

  • hi

i posted my vid "a drawing of a talking chair",

it's not comin up on the responses but i have also just realised it is 5:05 mins long. this is because an end bit got added and did not show me on my movie maker program. it showed 4:55.

any chance it can still enter, if not i will have to redo and enter again.

    please let me know asap!

  • HI,

I've posted a video response but it's not showing. It's called "Smash And Grab" by coletdotorg

  • The video responses have to be accepted by the video uploader, they don't get automatically listed on here

  • fold

  • That is one unique piece of text. You've really left things wide open for the imagination insofar as animating the inanimate is maintained in the core of the works.

  • I think is a nice competition !!

    good luck to all!

I made a video once... got over 3,000 hits!

  • Captain Wilhelm:

What are you talking about? Nobody pays to enter this competition or gets any special position on the page. To see all of them click on "SEE ALL". Read the instructions.

Bravo Julius Cortes for your intelligent comments in response to all the lazy negative ones. If some of you don't like the Ravenhill story, just take bits of it and make up your own version - that was the challenge!

  • i love it how all the videos that are on the frontpage because they payed to be there get shit ratings

  • i will turn it in to a idiotic FLAMBABLE!

  • the problem is, certain "cultural tools" are prerequisite in order to even understand that plea

  • Re: Irvine Welsh,

Yes all very well and good, but if you'd had to sit through the shit play Mr. Irvine wrote about the dwarves in The Wizard of Oz you wouldn't be so quick to quote him. Every mediocre Artist in the world decries their critics ability "to get" what they do. It's the artists' job to help the viewer understand as much as they can, any twit can make something willfully obscure, to make something that can be universally understood (like say "the red baloon") takes real vision

  • Interesting idea.

If I was a better person I'd probably take up the challenge.

Unfortunately I'm so full of myself that I've barely got time to make all my own wonderful scripts, let alone someone elses.

  • I'm liking the sound of that.

  • to enter do you just post the video as a respondse to this 1?

  • Yip, then go to the guardian site - and follow the rest of da instructions on there, mun.

  • This is very very patronising indeed. He's like some trendy drama teacher trying to impress the kids. "It's like a new medium that's finding it's own language." It's organic you prat. That is its beauty. Don't come round here trying to impose your language on something you clearly don't understand Grandad. I also thimk the 'script' is - even by Ravenhill's standards - dire.Probably knocked off in 5 minutes with very little thought. Wonder how much the Guardian paid him?

  • Does 'good breeding' include quoting someone else's words to conceal that perhaps we have none of our own?

Good breeding? My arse. In your case that is merely self delusion and cowardice.

  • What is the matter with you people? Why don't you just have some fun and respond creatively to the challenge? If you're so talented, show what you can do instead of wasting your energy on whining.

  • 'Text' sucks.

  • what's in it for us?

  • Haha. Inspiration for youtube videos is all around us anyway. I am sure there are more relavent and meaningful pieces of text to use in a video.

  • Desperatwly encouraging us to make ANY video, to impress HIM !!

We are already making vids, for EACH OTHER, for FREE !!!

    Go AWAY !!!

  • YEAH! and who'll make money off the back of this competition, i wonder...

  • You are right, you tube is fantastic. However, as the guy below says (more politely), sod off, and dont bother trying to domiante it, and make it professional, or opera, or "big brither you tube".

Just elt the dam thing grow, without your sort diving in and Romanising everything, until its no fun any more.

If you can do better, do it. But dont be a parasyite on you toube, you FREAK !!!

  • This seems like a somewhat arrogant attempt at syphoning off talent and manipulating it into something you will then own the rights to.

"For the past couple of years, I've hardly watched any television. Like many other people, I now spend my idle hours surfing video clips..."

And yet, the prize for your competition is to work with a major broadcaster, that by your own admission is clearly not the behemoth it once was.

  • Totally correct. His kind CANNOT understand that they are not necessarily welcome, to dive in, and "organise" you tube to THEIR liking. They truly believe that We, the normal people benefit from ANYTHING they do, and so will, or should be grateful.

Like priests and politicians. He wants to turn you tube into the guardian, cus the guardian WONT let him mess about with htat.

Arrogant tosser realy believes he wil be doning us all a favour, thats what gets me.

    FRIEK !!!

  • This "writer" has devised a skit,

and asked us to embellish it,

    with interpretations all our own,

but the best are always accident prone,

like the script: pretentious and lacking wit,

as popular clips are almost always shit.

  • best comment ive read on you tube 5/5

to many clips of just tv on here i came to the net to get away from the mainstream and now you tube is just tv repeating itself.

  • You can argue that, but people will post what people want to see, and people want what they're familiar with, that's why a Big Mac in London tastes the same as a Big Mac in Bangkok. Often TV content is far superior the the orignal content posted on this site, some moronic frat boy spluttering loudly into the camera microphone as he draws a dick on the head of his sleeping roommate. At least old TV clips have a cultural value. Also boo to the guardian for this "UK only" comp.

  • hi! i've discovered youtube!

i can only imagine the creative discussion that went into this.

  • hahahaha, that's the funniest thing I've heard in a while, precinct :) Would help if you could actually spell the word...

  • I love the script. I plan on taking part! Also, while I'm here: the aspect ratio in this YouTube video is wrong.
