  • Spanky MacFarlane -- what an incredible voice she had. A string of wonderful songs and chosen to join a reformed Mamas and Papas because she was that good. "Lazy Day," is my personal favorite but the first time I heard her was on this song which will always be special. A great talent.

  • its good stuff, nostalgic, makes me feel old though.

  • As a child, although I loved these songs, and, others, for some reason, I thought that Spanky & Our Gang; The Seekers; The Cowsils; Friend and Lover; We Five; and, certain other songs by certain groups were religious in sounding and atmosphere!? I believe that it was because they sounded so pure, as opposed to the Rolling Stones (who I really like in a more 'ROCKIN' way), and, other 'ROCK' groups of the same era. They just sound so wholesome, and, that's a good thing, I suppose!?!? :)

  • Thank you for all your uploads. You have a great taste in classic music. Keep it up. Greetings from England my friend.

  • Thanks for your nice comment on my taste in music, topperlongo-san!!

  • that spanky was a hottie :)

  • this song starts out like a christmas song

  • They don't come close to writing songs like this anymore. Oh, so many memories both happy and sad.

  • Good song Otaku3 , just came from the Glen Campbell vid you posted of 'Wichita Lineman' . Cool. 'Like to get to know you' gotta be my favorite of the spanky band . They were so good and Elaine was cute and pleasingly plump back then.

  • Thank you for enjoying this video, Deadcat069-san!!

  • This was one of the greatest group's of the 60's

Can never get enough of them Elaine Spanky McFarlane.

    Thank You. Sir David

  • ..Magical..Mystical!!!

  • Two great songs by Spanky and Our Gang! "Sunday Will Never Be The Same" & "Like To Get To Know You" are absolute favorites!

    R.I.P. Paul "Oz" Bach...1939-1998

    R.I.P. Malcolm Hale...1941-1968

  • When you listen to a song like this you realise the pop music artists of today have absolutely no idea about melody and backing vocals and to how make a great sounding pop record.

  • I love this song! OK I turned 50 yesterday but in 6th grade at our little Friday afternoon dances, they played this on a record! Remember those?

  • Your videos and song quality are the best!

    Thank You.

  • Thanks for rating higher the music that I chose, sammy1995-san!!

I am very glad for it.

    Otaku3 (*^o^)/

  • what can I say, I grew up with this band and have nothing but great memories.

  • 60otaku3-thankyou for your great uploads. i was with seabees 68-69,Quang-Tri,Dong-Ho,loved this music

  • You're welcome, garyshumor-san!!

    Otaku3 d(^_^)b

  • @garyshumor That was definitely a tough time in your life. Lost a few close friends there. SeeBees. Building Bridges, Roads, etc..

    Thank You. Sir David

  • @sixtiesforever1966 =Thank you for your thoughts Sir David! garyshumor

  • I have so many memories of S &OG songs - my first love - the late 1960's with the horrible war, but Spanky's songs were able to lightened even a heavy heart. I had this album and a couple others. Every song makes me smile. I'll save this to my playlist and play it whenever I'm a little down. Good memories, Thanks!

  • You're welcome, yooperlooper-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^_^)b

  • When I was a kid, my mother used to scream that this was "devil music" and try to prevent me from listening to it. Why the WWII generation, which defeated the Nazis, was so totally screwed up in so many other ways is beyond me.

  • @Albacorewing not to be offensive but maybe just your Momma was screwed up! My Momma loved Spanky and Our Gang but then again all the kids in the neighborhood loved my Momma!

  • @RImusclebear I agree. Toward the end of her life I used to show her the lyrics of rap songs to tease her, and she would really freak out.

  • The lyrics make sense, the tunes are memorable (and highly sophisticated), the recording crystal clear, the vocal and instrumental arrangements are imaginative, and the performance is first-class and Elaine's voice has bags of personality.

The exact opposite of the type of stuff to which we have to listen today! Take me back ....

  • What the hell happened to good music like this, todays so called music is nothing but crap.

  • We used to listen to this in Vietnam to take our minds off the hell. Love her voice and harmony. And the clarity of your work is outstanding. Thanks so much for posting

  • You're very welcome, 1GayTomas-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^o^)b

  • @1GayTomas As I always say to my brother Chuck , welcome home! he was Airbourne Silver Spurs 1967-69 3/17 squadron

  • Love this song! You have the best channel IMO 60otaku3. the quality of your uploads are the among the best.

  • Thank you, emerybayblues-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^_^)v

  • it's like a recording of a dream.

  • 2 gems,Elaine's voice is so harmonic and precious,reaches everybody,so 60s so optimistic,and clear all together....

  • SPANKY & OUR GANG THE ORIGINAL MASTERS ARE AVAILABLE AT UNI MUSIC /AND ITUNES

  • haha excellent song!

  • this is a very nice song. : )

  • what a nice voice elaine has, had? i was 8 when i heard this on kleo 1480

in wichita, ks. oh man bring it back,

  • What a great song by a great group, led by Elaine M. Thanks for posting. Brings back the days in the mid to late 60's in sunny SoCal. Those were some wonderful times.

  • You're welcome, fbenenati-san!!

    Otaku3 (^o^)/

  • Elaine and her voice belong to that rare and incredible small group of women vocalists who embodied such presense and class and tremendous power who brought such magic to us in the 60s. We were indeed that they were here to gift us these wonders.

  • A set of pipes like Elaine MacFarlane's aren't born every day. Her voice is so clear and full of flavor, but at the same time extremely powerful!

    What awesome music!

    Thank you friend 60okatu:)

  • You're welcome, Lance-san!!

    Otaku d(^_^)b

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!! Alright ,i've got the same album. Sure don't make music like this anymore. Something about that 60's music is certainly missing in todays stuff. i was very sorry to hear 2 members of the band have passed. So i guess there's not much chance of a reunion:(:(:(:(:( Shame i really liked e'm, Loved their vocal harmonys the best, they were wonderful.

  • I totally agree. I get goosebumps just thinking of it. Thanks for befriending this geezer from the '60s. Peace!

  • Thanks for your comment, 454something-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^o^)b

  • I have really enjoyed sitting here by my open window and, along with listening to the birds, also listening to these tunes. Thank you so much for posting them together this way. God bless.

  • You're very welcome, GroovyGranny-san!!

    Otaku3 d(^_^)b

  • These songs epitomize the 60's.

  • LIke to get to know you is one of the most beautiful saddest song I"ve ever heard

  • @carolinewong1 Wow! That's my favorite song as well (goosebumps all over). Ok, I'll come clean here and say this song and "Love Song" by Lesley Duncan were both tied for "favorite song" in my heart. Lesley just passed away this month and I am wallowing in a depressed mood for days now but this song gives me hope. Do you like all the music from the Gang? Where you around in those days? take care...

  • I wasn't born yet in those days :-) i love the other songs but like to get to know u is the best, love the haunting melancholy feel of it :)

  • Went into the Army when this came out...made it back from the Nam..but I had this song...and yes, elaine did sing with the Mommas and Poppas

  • lnefouse , I remember this song to0 ! Marine Corps veteran who was at Khe Sanh !

  • I won't philosophize on the state of pop music since then..... I'll just enjoy it while I can!!!!

  • Oh I never heard these songs especially " Like to Get to Know You," for a long time. My father use to play this song when I was little :) Mostly a lot of '67 songs makes me fall alseep and relaxed <3

  • Too often compared to the Mamas and the Papas, and without the baggage. After Mackenzie came out with the truth about her dad, I just can't bring myself to listen to the M&Ps anymore. Now I have to heal, too! So sad.

  • The voice of Elaine (Spanky) McFarlane is incredibly powerful and clear, and the group's vocal harmonies are simply amazing. Although he didn't front the group, Malcolm Hale was the creative genius behind the talent of "Spanky" and the others.

  • Elaine has a gorgeous voice, just as good as Cass. In fact, she sang with the Mamas and the Papas for a while, didn't she?

  • Yes, she toured with that group and sang the parts that Cass Elliot performed. It was kind of a Mama Cass-->Mama Elaine (Mama Spanky?) transformation.

  • @ennui2000 Yes, and it's a shame that Malcom died so young. One of the more underrated talents in the music business.

  • What an amazing song! Love her vocals!!!!!!

  • This would be a great "Cover" tune by a group like (SOS) Swing Out Sister!!!

  • let's get mellow and forget all the barriers that we might think would be a hindrance in forming a beautiful relationship. lets start a hippie movement again and and tune in, turn on, and drop out. we need change not promises!

  • YES!!! EXACTLY!!!! the hippie movement needs to be brought back into the mainstream of society. I'm 16 and i'm proudly a modern day hippie, and if all of the other hippies like me get together, wonderful things could be done.

"Whatever you do, do it for peace." - John Lennon

  • Just don't do all the drugs, sweetie! I'm was in the "cusp," too young to be an actual hippie. My hubby is 59, right in the prime time for the action. He HATED the Beatles! for SHAME! ;) My three older bros and sisters grooved on the music but were pretty tame. My oldest sister had to go to classes with a police escort, it was so dangerous (1969).

  • Who hates the Beatles? he must have been smoking crack! the Beatles were the most incredible, most influential group that ever existed! people & musicians from all walks of life & every form of music understand the importance of the Beatles & their incredible music they created! "Sergeant Pepper" is still my favorite album!

I'm 50 & I remember most of the songs from the late 60's. "Sunday will Never be the Same" is one of my favorite songs! Spanky & Judith Durham are 2 of my favorite singers!

  • Yes, I agree about Spanky and Judith Durham.

  • WHAT ARE YOU SMOKIN"?

  • Another wonderful gem from the 60s....

  • I agree. this was always one of my favorite songs! it has a beautiful melody! I never get tired of listening to it. the lyrics are pretty sad, though! wonder what happened to her love?!

  • I just love that "ahhhhhhhhh" musical bridge in "Like to Get to Know You," it's such a tracendental moment, all escept for the obvious stereo kick-in, which kinda ruins in.

  • 60otaku3 Hello old friend i subscribed to your account about 4 years ago..I always liked your selection of music and your peaceful demeanor ,also your no nonsense approach to stupid jerks who get off on hating... hang loose my friend

  • Hello old friend, fost6586-san!!

Thank you for finding out my new channel, and enjoying this video!

I am so glad you did not have forgotten me since four years ago.

    Kind regards from Japan.

  • It's great to hear old favorite's that make you feel good and to remember how great the music was. You don't get quality like this any more.

  • This is truly a pleasure to be able to listen to words you can understand and make sense with outstanding musicians playing with pristine harmony Wow! I miss this group, they got me through a terrible young broken heart! back in the day. Then a new love I'd Like To Get to Know You !Yikes!

    your Japanese friend,

  • When this group peaked in popularity, I was going through puberty. Somehow I got hooked on the female voice and thought she sounded so sexy.

All the emotions of those days come flooding back.

    Thanks for posting.

  • You're welcome, GregSr-san!!

    Otaku3 d(^_^)b

  • ...and I thought I was the only one who got chills listening to 'LTGTKY' !!!

  • What a terrific, talented group ... I waited patiently for each of their albums ... I really liked the transitions and continuity between the songs ... hard to believe those times are gone forever - except reliving them a little bit through youtube ...

  • They don't make them like they used to.

Musicians today don't know jack shit about melody, harmony or writing a arrangement. Now it's all sequencer, sampler, drum machine, fairlight vocal enhancement, all recorded on a hard drive. Cross your fingers for a harmony revival but like you said "those times are gone forever".

  • This was on the radio a lot when I was reading Lord of the Ring. they are connected in my mind. Thanks for posting it.

  • You're welcome, swamivicky-san!!

    Otaku3 (^o^)/

  • 454something, I too get chills listening to Like To Get To Know You... I was given the original 8-track of Spanky & Our Gang's album with this on it as a birthday present from a girl who evidently had a crush on me when we were still in junior high. I was an army brat in '68 and we were living at Sagamihara Dependent Housing Area near Tokyo at the time. Domo arigatou 60otaku3-san for posting this! ^_^

  • Dou itashimashite, VidBrats-san!!

  • My favorite song ever. (Like to get to know you) I don't take this lightly. I loved this song for 41 years now and I first heard it at Fort Dix NJ when I was drafted. I guess it gave me serenety at a very crazy time. Thanks to the late Stu Scharf, to Bob Dorough, to Spanky & Our Gang, and thanks 60otaku3 for posting. There are too few songs from that fantastic group.

  • You're welcome, 454something-san!!

  • The yound lady

  • Elaine "Spanky" McFarlane was the lead female vocalist. Unfortunately, the group only remained together for 2 years. Sometime in the late 1980s, Spanky briefly sang with The Mamas & The Papas when that 60s-era group attempted a short-lived revival. Spanky's voice was somewhat similar to that of Mama Cass Elliot, who died in 1971.

  • vidbrats, you so right, I saw them play at our State Fair here in Minnesota back in the early 90's a couple of times. Her voice was good than as it was in the 60's.

  • Don't like being picky, but Cass died summer of 74.

  • @martinjp1958 True mama Cass did leave us in '74 But a reformed group w/ Spanky , John Phillips .Denny Doherty & Johns daughter Mackenzie taured as the "The new Mama's & Papa's "

  • thanks for the music love this group.

  • Loved the group from day one. They left us a small portion of their talents. How I wished they had been a forever band without end.

  • Great post ! These guys had wonderful sound. All three albums are produced to the magical level. When you grow up listening to the 45s, then hear the albums it just blows you away.

  • Thank you, geofbrit59-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^_^)/

  • Thanks to jazzdug for setting me straight on the bass in "Sunday". I've long been a fan of the Wrecking Crew too. Wonder if that's Carol Kaye doing the awesome bass work. I'll have to check into the documentary film. The arrangements are still first-rate no matter who put them together.

  • You're welcome, JCE1972-san!!

    Otaku3 (^_^)/

  • Thanks so VERY much for uploading this. I've always thought that the coda of

"Like To Get To Know You" was one of the most stunningly gorgeous pieces of music ever. Acoustic guitar, trombone pedal notes, flutes, Inspired! Never thought much about "Sunday ..." but listening to it here I noticed what a great

bass line it has. These people were fine

musicians. And the care with which the

arrangements were crafted, ahhhhh. This is quality; a joy to listen to.

  • You're very welcome, damonliz-san!!

I'm glad that you enjoyed these hit songs by Spanky & Our Gang.

    Otaku3 d(^o^)b

  • Go look for "The Wrecking Crew movie" on the web - al these tunes were played by a group of LA musicians loosely known as "the Wrecking Crew" that most people don't know about - the vocals were the band itself, but the studio guys played all of these tracks.

  • my sister used to play this 45 on her portable record player when i was small
