After countless listens, countless years, listening over and over and over to his life's work, this song has ended up becoming my favourite. A timeless classic. Well, this and Levon, they never, ever get tiring to listen to.
like the rags that belong to you i belong to myself---something the ex never understood!!!!! though my favorite album is captain fantastic this album makes me think of mushrooms and acid---hey it WAS the 70's!!!!
He says he gonna put buckshot in her pants probaly hit her in the ass with the spread of a 12 gauge with rock salt. If that happens it will be very hard for her to turn a trick with the pain in her back and ass that buckshot will hurt you very hard. I quess she or whoever gets hit will be subjected to giving blow jobs. since her ass hurts like a sun of a bitch.
You are right .i do not even rember writing that awful; senerio. i was in what is known in AA as a black out. I live in Boston"s theatre districkt yet you see alot of hookers walking around. Some are nice and some will steal everything in your apartment that isn"t nailed down.I really need to stay sober from now on. Sorry about that .
The whole band is firing on all cylinders on this LP. Just listen to the guitar and bass play off each other in this song, with the organ grinder piano going off at the same time. Then add in the sublime lyric and Elton's voice and you get magic. I'm so glad I came of age when this stuff was coming out.
I was 12 when I got this album. I also had the 8-track that I listened to on my electric blue Panasonic Dynomite 8 Track Tape Player, lol. HOURS I listened to this... It's so good to come on here (I'm a newbie) and see all these great comments. Love it and most of you!
I was a sophomore in high school when this album came out. My Mom would have had a heart attack if she heard some of these lyrics and songs "All the Young Girls Love Alice"!!!! I never would have gotten the albums for Christmas that's for sure. I still love them after all these years.
does anyone have a clue as to what instrument specifically makes that wonderful dirty piano sound used in this song? Is it a combination of Mellotron/Electric piano? Or just piano with effects? It sounds utterly amazing and I don't think any other song he did sounds quite like it.
The credits to "Dirty Little Girl" show Elton John as playing a Leslie piano and mellotron. That same sound struck me when Yellowbrick Road first came out!
@forbus56 Yeah I listened closely again and thats really all it is - Mellotron and Leslie piano, but its done in such a way that it sounds like a new type of instrument. Its just simply brilliant.. and this kind of swinging, sleazy, jerky rhythm I think Elton should have revisited again...and again because its brilliant! I never tire of it; This is my all-time second favourite EJ song behind Levon.
@mrbollocks1979 the piano is mic'd into a Leslie revolving speaker (like they have in Hammond Organs) and then presumably front-mic'd out of there into the desk
@77edster Thankyou for that, I was hoping for a VST plug-in (WISHFUL thinking hehe) to fool around with but that sound... I could listen to it forever, its just such an amazing sound he gets. Actually I get kind of close with Hammond/leslie, i have a program that does it but it would need tweaking so more work to do!
Love the line, "Someone grab that bitch by the ears!" My favorite song off the album. It's so gritty and funky! Just makes ya want to lip sync it in a backwoods bar somewhere!!!!
@Hot4Hutch My fav too. I love the ending where he sings over himself and freestyles the "dirty" and "girl" stuff. A great outro. There's another version of this song on YouTube that illustrates the lyrics as it goes, btw, pretty cool shots.
Bought this double record with my own money when I was 6 from mowing my parents' yard in 1975. Probably the best money I ever spent in my whole life...
So what the fuck happened to music? Can you imagine somebody who died in like 1978 getting resurrected today. She'd come back here and listen to this shit called music today and say, "Noooooooooooooo - somebody put an end to it! Send me back to the fucking earth!"
@mygymchannel1 Well said, indeed! Back in the 70's, no-talents like Justin Bieber wouldn't even have been given an audition. Miss the good old days of the Stones, Beatles, and Elton!!!
I wore this song (and album) OUT in high school! Thank you Elton John for some of the greatest songs ever written...and thanks sydlivy for posting this.
This song takes me right back to the summer of 1974!
