i am going to get my bird tested but i don't know if i should bring him in a cage or i should just let him ride on my shoulder like i always do when he comes with me to get food.
Yes, agree with others. I don't think people should get blood from their parrot themselves by "cutting the nails or otherwise!" Yikes!! At the least, it's a good way to have your parrot get phobic of nail trimming.
wow you have so much birds i wish i had a bird but i'm not ready so i'm learning birds from you!:) your pretty smart! do you know about the other things? have you watched rio? i started wanting birds when i watched rio... i bet you love birds very much! do you know the type? i'm just thinking about birds every day! and i'm thinking about birds know! are you a big fan of birds? i bet you are! but i was thinking whats your very first bird....
female lovebirds chew up paper and put it in their wings, unlike males. i have a lovebird who i just found out is a female. i dont want a female. theyre cranky and hormonal and loud.
Getting blood from cutting their nails is a horrible way to get the sample, since you don't want to draw blood if at all possible. The best way is through a vet taking a sample through a blood feather or some other means. If there is an accident with a blood feather, you can take the sample and immediately treat the problem to stop the bleeding. Losing blood is a serious problem with birds, and should be treated as such.
I agree. you can traumatize your baby for weeks after taking a blood sample that way! My african grey took nearly 3 weeks to let me pet her again after we accidently clipped her nails a little on the short side with a grinder who's sensor was (at the time we discovered this) not picking up how close we were to her quick with her black nails. A blood feather would be the best way to go as for what blood feather, sometimes, my birds being active, I find a tail feather is the easiest for a sample.
@parrotflock it is true, that is a cruel way to tell if you`re bird is male or female, not just because it hurts you`re bird, but because it discourages trust in you and you`re bird`s relationship....

about how long does it take for the bird to to ajust and feel comfortable around the new owner and new home?
And what can the owner do to make it feel more comfortable so it can adapt quicker?

@fobxluva yes, that is a good way to sex lovebirds. I bonded with a female and she still bit everyone else.

Your male Eclectic looks like he's sick
datsyhoehoe 1 year ago
@datsyhoehoe He's not. He's just probably a rehomed bird that may have had plucking issues or still does and is not severely plucking however.

Basically, its just a good idea to have the vet do it and only very experienced aviculturists should try the method mentioned in the video.

@parrotflock I've heard that cornflower can stop bleeding with birds. That is, putting corn flower on the site of bleeding.
