I read an article in a Mensa magazine arguing that while THE ADDAMS FAMILY was about America's fading upper class, THE MUNSTERS was about the immigrant experience.
this might be about the 20th time i have looked at this video. it's still amusing. intros to the munsters tv show were unusual because it seems that they pointed the movie camera at one location while each castmember came into that location as if it were a continuous scene from an episode. other tv intros ( including the munsters today ) generally show a bunch of separate scenes at different locations.
i wish the stores had some figurines or dolls of the munster family. i'm surprised that i haven't seen any. i see plenty of figurines and dolls of spider-man, batman, superman, star wars characters, and so forth, yet no munster family. if they do come out with the munster family, i'd likely prefer them in black- and- white.
There actually were some a while back at the Toys R' Us I worked at (about 7 or 8 years ago) AND they were in B&W also, but they were very poor likenesses and they soon found their way to the exit door.
to shawnster65----- thanks. soon after i wrote that previous message, i found out that the amazon website has munster action figures. i sent off for one of herman. it came a few days later. it's pretty good. i think i'll send off for the whole cast.
No prob Coventrygardens. I myself don't minds action figures if they're done right..
I hate the ones that have the visible articulated joints with the metal screws showing in the elbows and legs. There's a right way to make an actiuon figure and a wrong way. Some of them are really cheap :(
a few years back, the u.s. postal service issued stamps featuring the universal studios monsters ( including frankenstein's monster, dracula, wolfman, asf. ) i think they should do the same for the munsters, yet there's no reason to include the ugly one ( marylin ). by contrast, i don't think i'd want stamps featuring the addams family. the addams family simply didn't connect with me.
General Mills was one of the original sponsors of "THE MUNSTERS" on CBS- and occasionally, the cast delivered a "comedy commercial" for them at the end of those GM episodes (note the ever-present laugh track throughout the ad). This one for Cheerios is from early 1965.

i don't know why they seldom bring back the old commercials. i think this commercial would be very successful today.
