  • I first saw GCPs in a pet store in OC, CA, in 1984. There were a bunch of them in a cage, and the whole pile of them followed me to whichever side of the cage I stood on. I could not have a pet in those days, but I was charmed by these guys and thought how nice it would be to have such a sweet bird for a pet. Now I have 3 beloved parrots. I know that the GCPs that were brought here in those years are mostly gone now & they aren't available anymore in the US. Bless you for your caring!

  • @coco2002100 - Thanks for your nice comment.

Yeah; I've had 5 of these wonderful birdies and all were beloved parts of my life.

I now have an adopted Canary Wing named Charlie and a Pineapple GCC named Jasper. You can see their vids on my channel, too. Just click my name below.

  • MOURN ME REALLY DID LIKE ONE .... I WAS CALLED TO BE PUT Chelita .... LIKE THIS AND THEN WHAT WE HAVE TO RETURN HOME TO VETERINARY DIED WAS TERRIBLE .... I loved ... .. We played DORM ATE did everything together

  • sorry for your bird ! i lost mine there is almost 2 years ..i lost a part of me when he died he was my best friend during 9 years.

  • @DragonlordXV - Thanks. I trust he's back with his girlfriend, Penny. Sorry for your loss, too.

  • First off i wanna say that i am nearly blinded by tears typing this alone

    and second....

i so much appreciate your compassion for jake enough to make that coffin so.. beautiful..

as i have always buried my animals.. in a cardboard box...

i and i regret every moment i didn't spend with them..

  • :( sad, sad to know that my little lovebirds will die someday..

  • @Dirxano - Take heart in that you had them and they had you for a long time.

  • this might be personal, but how did Jake die? btw, i was crying while watching this video! i am sorry for your loss.

  • @Melindaz1 - I still get teary eyed when I see it. Jake was such a mellow, good fellow. And he was just the medicine poor Penny needed to recover from her lonely, abused past.

Jake had a stroke, I think, which debilitated him. Eventually he just went to sleep and didn't wake up. I held him while he was just breathing his last - it was as if he was waiting for me to find him in his nest box, so I could say goodbye.

He was an old guy when I got him - he was 22 when he died. He was so brave.

  • Oh and I like those videos of your other birds they are very cute!

  • Thank you very much for answering! You have made my day I really appreciate it

  • I'm crying right now this us so sad my paraket died I was spending the bight with my friends and I woke up recieveda call from my mother and she said in a deep voice lemondrop died I will still remember you all the time lemondrop I love you!!!! :( :( :(

  • @The3jkids - I am sorry for your loss.

After grieving, God might bring you another bird, as he did me. A guy saw the video of Jake and offered me a bird. He shipped him from Ft. Worth. You can see Charlie and my new Jasper on a couple of my newer vids.

God bless you and diminish your pain.

  • that would make a kickass porno name

  • Aw gee whiz. Is that what dying birds remind you of? Porn?

  • This is so sad. I'm so sorry

  • that was so sad....im crying.... :'(

  • He looks very very very very very old.

  • @TheParakeetluvr He was: About 22 years. He was so mellow and at the end, brave.

  • how come you made jake's final bow before you made Jake's september song?

  • @AugustusDragonSpirit I didn't.

  • I'm just curious, umm... where did you get the rosewood coffin?

  • @AugustusDragonSpirit It was really a jewelry box. I got it at Walmart.

  • how do you get you birds to be so playful? mine are afraid of me and my hands

  • @AugustusDragonSpirit

well how do you use your hands? do you come from above their eye level, cause for some budgies it scares them, as well as bright colors or dramatic contrast >.> or anything that looks really really scare to a budgies imagination. :I

  • I am very sorry. But I am very happy that his last days were spent with you, an obviously excellent pet owner. Jake would be very proud

  • @AugustusDragonSpirit Thank you!

  • poor guy, luckily he passed in his sleep, and hopefully didnt feel anything.

  • Yeah; I did get to say goodbye as he slipped away. It was sad, yet reaffirmed our brief friendship.

Penny went harder. She was having so much trouble breathing the vet recommended putting her to sleep.

Saying goodbye to that beautiful little trusting soul was very, very hard.

  • @KutWrite So I guess, based off of your comment to kawasakipolaris, that Penny was grieving pretty hard too.

I was crying by the end of this. But don't worry. I know you loved Jake, and you had better believe that he loves you and misses you. He'll be waiting for you over the Rainbow Bridge. :')

  • @kirkygirl Yes; she was confused as much as sad. I think animals do sense what death is.

Jake was so brave, and kept his sense of humor, as you can see in the video when he tosses those two balls. What sums it up for me is his look to the camera at the end, after I kiss him on the back. To me it looks like he gives the camera a smile.

Penny's gone now, too. But I have two great guys, Jasper and Charlie. You can see them in my latest bird video.

    Thanks for writing!

  • was she sick or did she die of old age?

  • I think he had a stroke, then the effects of a liver tumor.

  • how old was he

  • 22 years old

  • after all that fighting it and hanging on...

  • 2:16 to 2:26 is the sadest sorry for your lost

  • Thank you.

My favorite shot is the kiss at the end, then I swear he smiles for the camera.

  • Very touching. What a nice way to remember your friends. I've had pet birds for over 20 years now and I cannot imagine my life without them.

Thank you for sharing such a nice video. :)

  • did he die the same day you added this? if you did he died on my birthday ='(

my sister's bird died yesterday. i have 2 parakeets (1 left but both always in my heart) and 2 parrots. all 3 remaining birds have a plentyful life ahead of them. hopefully penny does to.

  • I added the video a few days after he died. It was in early December 2008.

Penny is OK, but appears to have a tumor in her liver. It's inoperable, but she seems to have no pain and plenty of energy.

You can see her in the newer video: "Penny Naps with Me" on my channel.

It's cool, because she was so fearful when I first received her. She'd been awfully mistreated in her first home. I'm glad we found each other.

  • yea. the parakeet that died hd a tumor on her bottom. she lasted a month after she was diagnosed. would've lasted longer if she didn't pick at it =\

  • I almost lost my meyers parrot Derby in December. She fell off her perch and had a bad concussion. 4 days of having her sleep on our chest day and night, and force feeding baby bird food and medicine to her...we took turns holding her. It was heartbreaking. Luckily she made it and is an naughty as ever. But it was touch and go. Am sorry for your loss.

  • Hi Peedge!

    Glad your Meyers recovered.

My old bird Wiley (RIP) got scared by rambunctious roommates one night and flew into some blinds. I came back from the laundry room to find him unconscious on the floor with a spot of blood on his head & the cowardly roommates gone.

I cuddled Wiley for hours, lying down with him cradled under my chin. He eventually roused & seemed just fine. Whew!

His remaining seven years were crisis-free and happy. May yours be the same!

  • Yeah, cuddles for hours after many xrays and a hefty vet bill. Ouch. It hurts remembering.

Today however, she started chasing and biting the border collie. Attacking would be the better word. Grace was NOT happy about that. So she is being caged until she can get her bully behavior under control. - at least I can say she's back to her old self. And here I was a month ago, concerned she was still acting meek and humble. That has changed.

    Gotta love the bird attitude.

  • Finally watched both your vids all the way thru- Very sad. I am glad he had u tho, to give him a good life.

  • Jake reminds me of my gray cheek Pickles. Both are over the rainbow bridge. They both fought to stay with us as long as to could. All of my fids are still with me inside. Take care and love the ones that still living with you.

  • Thanks for your warmth.

I sometimes say a few words to my deceased little pals. They each meant a lot to me.

  • my parakeet just died. [ Febuary 1st, 2009 around 12a.m.] its name was mickey. I miss it so much already. And when it died it just looked at me. :'(

I want it back alive. i miss it soo muchh!

  • Hi Anita,

    Thanks for sharing.

I miss all my RIP pets. They each meant so much to me.

The best thing you can do is adopt an unwanted bird in memory of Mickey. It will warm your heart and theirs.

  • Aww! He is so cute:) I'm sorry that happened to you. I have 2 cats, but they are alive and well. I havent ever experienced a death or an animal or a family member before. R.I.P Jake! Good job

  • Thanks.

I have lost other pets over time. I miss them all and sometimes tell them so.
