I have the same dam problem for so long now. My fan is so loud that I disturbed everyone at Starbucks.. I not sure how to open the case to replace it..

The only stupidity is your post. A little dust doesn't cause fans to make grinding sounds like that. It takes years for that much dust to even accumulate inside of a device like that for that to even be possible.

SONY sells good quality products, I have been using a VAIO SZ330p for 5 years now and it is a great laptop, I had the same problem. Don't expect the fan to last forever if you have access to the fan from the bottom of the laptop you can easily replace it if your laptop is like mine it's gonna take a bit more effort for you to be able to replace it (the parts can be find at E-BAY of 35-40 dollars) just be careful when detaching the ribbon cables, components and boards. My Sony went back to the manufacturer 3 times in a year...2 fan replacements, one charger replacement. Now it is out of warranty and when it gets warm it shuts off automatically. I now have my living room fan pointed at it to keep it cool while I use it.

No more Sony products for this little black duck!

took my rattling sony apart as shown, once fan was out I continued to take apart the fan from the heat sink (only 3 more screws), shaved a little off the blades where blades touch the plastic cover, you can tell cause the blades made a circle groove on the cover. put a little wd-40 on the fan bar, put it all back together and the fan is quiet again and No need to replace it with another faulty fan.

@NewOrleansComputerRe yes there is a product alert on the vgn-cs215j models sony is providing a free repair for an additional 36 months beyond the standard limited 12 months warranty [48 months total] for fan replacement also there is another product alert on the LCD that develop a line across the display you can check for your self log in to the sony website.

I bought the same model last April and it recently started making the same noise intermittently. I wonder if I should bring it back?? It doesn't do it all the time though- I am concerned that they won't fix it unless it is consistently making the noise.

Mine is a VGN-CS220D. I got it in July and just got this fan problem yesterday. :(
