The final story of the anime is similar to a story in the 36th book of the 38-book manga series, and many of the storylines of the manga are missed out anyway. I was personally disappointed that the big storyline of the two final books wasn't included in the anime, though I can understand why they did it.

In addition to NoogahOogahs comment, I would like to share mine, it was 1999 when I watched the first 4 episodes on dvd but my mom came in at one of the topless parts(and i'm a girl. heh), and I was banned from this anime and have never gotten around to finishing it. In 2010 at the age of 24, I have a week off from work and picked up where I left off, from ep 5 all the way to 81 so far.. and I've been laughing my ass off.
